The Zombie Devil had the same question.
That incessant chainsaw whine seemed to make it uneasy. It windmilled a blood-red intestine and smashed it down at Denji-ko. "Y-you possessed that trash from before?! Then we should both be devils!"
"Ah-ha—I don't knooow—!"
Yellow light flared in the iron skull—probably her "eyes." Facing the intestine whistling down from above, she threw her jaw wide—upper and lower like twin mallets—and cackled, "All I know is I'm gonna hack you, you disgusting freak, to pieces!"
Before the words fell, a silver flash swept by.
A streak of blood split obliquely in the air and slapped to the floor in two chunks.
Only then did the pain arrive. The Zombie Devil shrieked, flailing the hacked intestine wildly. The pain was nothing like burning, yet just as unbearable!
Su Tang watched it all.
Though Denji-ko swung her arm-saws fast, they weren't faster than his fire-honed dynamic vision, so he clearly saw how she bisected the intestine—but he didn't catch the saw's rotational rate.
Too fast!
It was like a silver beam!
And the saw's material seemed extraordinary—toughness and edge on another level… Could a little dog-shaped devil really do that?!
The cuter they are, the scarier?
"Mr. Su Tang!"
As he was thinking, a slightly urgent call came.
Denji-ko.
He knew why—an intestine was streaking at him from behind.
A wall of fire surged up, blocking it again.
Staring at those bizarre saws and the relieved set of her shoulders, he asked the earlier question once more.
"Are you Denji-ko?"
This time his tone was still interrogative, but shaded toward certainty.
"Ah-ha, it's me!"
Her long tongue slid between those iron-forest teeth; she seemed thrilled he recognized her.
"Mm…"
He nodded slowly, once more marveling at biological diversity.
"Mr. Su Tang, watch me slice it in half!"
Excitement and eagerness ran through her every move. Feet flashing, she kicked off—before he could speak she sprang up three meters, heading straight for the Zombie Devil's head.
"Vvvvmmm—!"
The instant the chainsaw met devil flesh, sparks flew like clashing steel. The body Su Tang had already scorched into pits took another savage blow; char-flecked gobbets sprayed from the spinning teeth.
"Arrrrrrgh!! It huuuurts!"
Racked by pain, the devil thrashed head and intestines, flinging Denji-ko into the air—then swung an arc and slammed her square in the belly.
"Boom!"
The air popped. She smashed into the floor, then skipped like a stone four times, finally stopping against a human wall made by the Shadow Corps.
Silence fell in the factory.
"You…"
It had all taken less than three seconds. Su Tang had wanted to catch her with flame, but worried she couldn't take it, so he'd hurriedly had the Shadow Corps pad it out. It might have been too late—but… huh?!
Eyes wide, he watched Denji-ko stand like nothing had happened.
That… kind of force, that kind of injury—unscathed?
No—not unscathed. Rapidly healing!
What the hell? A living Horse Talisman? Dog Talisman?
"Tsss—it hurts!" Denji-ko hissed through her teeth, then dug in a heel to charge again.
"Wait!" Su Tang stopped her. He raised walls of fire to shield them both and said, "This has gone on long enough. Time to end it."
"Yeah—end it!" Denji-ko didn't ask how. She just revved her saws and yelled along.
Such spirit.
He flicked a finger through the air toward her forearms and warned, "It'll sting. Bear with it."
Flame snapped from his fingertip and dropped onto both her arms.
Then, it drank the wind and grew.
Blazing fire poured over both chainsaws, licking out cruel tongues.
"Ss-haa—" Denji-ko shivered, making an odd sound.
"So hot! So hot! Feels like my whole body's on fire aaaaaaaah!"
His brain filtered out the curiosities. His eyes reddened again, and flame snarled up around him.
"Hahahahaha—come eat another Five Fireball Divine Technique!"
Fire-qi retook the high ground in his head. He lifted into the air as clusters of small fire-spheres coalesced—hundreds, or thousands?
Then they streaked away!
Threads of fire blasted forth like rain, like shooting stars!
Watching the devil, who could only turtle up again, Su Tang laughed wildly. "Hahahaha! I lied! It's actually Unlimited Fire Mode!"
Perfect!
Brain a bit off or not, something like battle instinct told Denji-ko this was it!
She kicked hard. The recoil launched her above the devil's head in a blink.
Flame-wreathed saws drove into that skull without resistance!
"Mr. Su Tang's got so many weird skill names—I can't fall behind!"
"Let me use these two Flame Saws to give you a craniotomy! Hahahahaha!"
"You—!"
Those two syllables were the Zombie Devil's last.
Without the intestines to support it, the body crashed down and shattered in four or five pieces.
"Haaa… haaa…" Panting, Denji-ko stood amid fire and gore, looking ready to topple at any second.
The red in Su Tang's eyes faded as he dropped back to the floor.
The zombies who'd been trading blows with the Shadow Corps also fell to the Unlimited Fire Mode barrages.
The factory was strewn with licking flames and reeking purple gore.
He let out a slow breath and was just about to check on Denji-ko when, outside the factory, a creak reached his ears.
The squeal of car tires on the brakes.
