The question was casual but probing, and Aria recognized the test. Mora Lee was suspicious and trying to determine whether Aria's story held up under scrutiny.
"Philippe mentioned that you have access to databases and expertise that aren't available in the United States," Aria said smoothly. "For a piece of this value and importance, I wanted the absolute best authentication available, and he assured me that meant you."
"I see," Mora Lee said, and she studied Aria with eyes that were sharp and calculating. "And this piece, where did the seller acquire it originally? The documentation mentions a private collection in Moscow, but the chain of ownership seems to have gaps in the timeline."
