Viktor's hand trembled as he pressed the phone to his ear, and his face went pale. "Yes, I understand."
Marcus looked up from the financial documents spread across the table. "Everything okay?"
Viktor held up a hand, and his eyes were wide. "No, I'll handle it from here. Just, stay safe. I mean it."
He ended the call, and silence filled the room for three heavy seconds.
"Who was that?" James asked from the doorway.
"A contact," Viktor said, and his voice was carefully controlled. "Someone flagged unusual activity on one of our secure accounts. Nothing critical, just requires monitoring."
"At this hour?" James asked.
"Financial systems don't sleep," Viktor said, and he was already typing furiously on his laptop. "I need to run some traces and make sure our security protocols haven't been compromised. It's probably nothing, but I can't take chances."
Marcus nodded and returned to his documents. "Let me know if you need anything."
"Will do," Viktor said.
