In Cadmus's tent, the court mage entered and saw his student behind a desk, writing on paper with a quill. Ciri was too concentrated to notice his arrival, and Cadmus didn't want to disturb her.
Taking one last look at the girl and seeing that she was answering the questions correctly, he walked to a room and, before entering, knocked on the door. And when he heard permission to enter, he opened the door and went in.
Yennefer and Triss could be seen furiously noting down their findings. There were two books already filled with notes and discoveries from the corpse of the Saint of the Seven Stars. The smell of ink hung in the air. These notes were priceless; it was something all mages would probably kill entire cities just to have the right to read.
"Yennefer, I want you to study something for me," Cadmus spoke in a calm tone as he sat on one of the sofas in the room.
"You can leave it in some corner of the room, and when I have time, I'll do it." Without raising her head, Yennefer spoke in a distracted tone. Information seemed to pour from her mind, and she wrote with even more fervor. More and more possibilities emerged from her imagination, making her never want to leave this state of epiphany.
"I'll leave this severed finger of a god here, and you can study it when you have time." Cadmus said in a casual tone, while placing the vial containing the finger on the desk that Yennefer and Triss were using as a support for writing.
"By the fat and soft ass of the Goddess of Lys, what did you just say?" Triss, who was writing, stopped what she was doing and asked in a shocked tone.
Yennefer made a large line on the paper, showing how shocked she was by what she had just heard. Hearing Cadmus's shocking words, she stood up from her chair and looked at the court mage with a wide-eyed gaze.
"A god's finger!?" Yennefer asked in a tone still incredulous at what she had just heard. Triss swallowed hard. She never thought she could dissect the body of a saint, let alone a god, even if it was just a finger. For the first time, Triss thanked Yennefer for throwing her into this damn barbarian continent.
"Yes, a god's finger, although he died a long time ago." Cadmus was not surprised by the shocked expressions of both witches. If there was one thing in common among every mage, witch, or scholar in all universes, it was the greed for knowledge.
In the Forgotten Realms universe, the Arcane Mages of the Netheril Empire were so arrogant as to dissect gods and reach for the divine, which resulted in the collapse of the Weave throughout the universe.
This was just one example of how crazy mages and any profession related to magic were. All were a bunch of lunatics for knowledge and power.
You can call mages arrogant, but never lacking in greed for knowledge.
"You can study the finger, but it won't be for free." Showing a malicious smile, Cadmus said in a gentle and persuasive tone.
"How about fifty years of work?"
Triss felt a shiver hearing fifty years of servitude! Damn, this bastard was more cruel and greedy than the merchants who dared to cross the sea of grass!!!
The red-haired mage was seriously hesitant; on one hand, fifty years of servitude was a high price, but fifty years in exchange for touching the flesh of a god made fifty years not seem like much.
The same hesitation was in Yennefer's mind. The temptation of knowledge and her own thoughts collided fiercely in a struggle for determination.
Seeing this, Cadmus knew the girls were hesitating because the price wasn't high enough yet. The court mage, who was determined to kidnap these two talented mages and force them to work for fifty years, did not hesitate to raise the price.
"I will give 5% of my magical legacy."
As soon as Cadmus finished speaking, Triss, who was undecided, approached Cadmus and held his arm intimately. "Boss, please accept me!!!"
Yennefer couldn't help but look fiercely at her friend; they could have raised the price, but Triss simply got too excited and forgot to bargain. It was fifty years of servitude!!!
However, Yennefer understood her friend's determination. Being together with Cadmus, they realized something incredible. Cadmus's spells, including potions, were not recorded in any book they knew.
One or two spells would be fine; it was impossible to gather all the knowledge in the world in one place, so it was perfectly normal not to know one or two spells, but all the spells Cadmus used or even the potions they saw were not recorded in any book they had read!
This was absolutely impossible, so only one option remained: Cadmus had received the inheritance of a magical civilization from another world.
The existence of other worlds was not a secret; or rather, almost everyone knew about the Conjunction of the Spheres that brought monsters to this world through the collisions of different dimensions and worlds, including some races that were now extinct.
So, whether it was Yennefer or Triss, neither was surprised by the existence of other worlds, but the existence of the legacy of another magical civilization was totally different. It represented infinite possibilities!
Yennefer, knowing what Cadmus really wanted, knew it was a trap, but the temptation of knowledge was too much, especially for her, who wanted to have a child, but the magic of this world couldn't help in that case.
If the magic of this world couldn't, the magic of another world certainly could help her achieve the feat of getting pregnant without a uterus or even rebuilding the uterus that was torn from her through blood magic and pacts.
"I also accept." Resigned to fate, Yennefer spoke in a calm tone.
Cadmus showed a satisfied expression; how could he not be happy? He practically rented two talented witches for fifty years. He couldn't be happier at that moment.
"Let's make an unbreakable vow." Cadmus said with a smile, but before he could continue the ceremony, he looked toward Robert's camp with a grim expression. Through the alchemical items he scattered across the battlefield to detect magic, he felt two extremely strong magical signatures!
"Two Grandmasters have just arrived at the enemy camp." Cadmus spoke in a grim and solemn tone.
Yennefer's and Triss's faces changed drastically. They spoke at the same time.
"Tissaia and Gerhart, the rectors of Aretuza and Ban Ard!"

On the battlefield, five different armies collided with ferocity and fury. The battlefront looked like a meat grinder; spears advanced, impaling individuals, while swords pierced the few or no defenses of the commoners.
What drew the most attention was not the magnificent collision of the armies, but the two men before all the armies.
Rhaegar and Robert.
Both kings were fighting for the fourth time that day. Their armor and weapons were, to say the least, dented. Rhaegar, wielding a sword, was a deadly swordsman, fast and uniquely precise. Robert, on the other hand, was terribly strong and resilient. He looked like a monster wielding his war hammer.
When Rhaegar was ready to collide once more against Robert, he was surprised to find that Robert retreated after hearing the whisper of a knight in plate armor.
In ten minutes, the entire enemy army retreated back to the camp. This left Rhaegar incredulous and confused. He didn't understand what was happening.
Suddenly, Rhaegar noticed Cadmus's abrupt appearance on the battlefield and became solemn. Cadmus wouldn't enter the battlefield unless something serious was happening.
"Raymun, sound the trumpet and have the army retreat." Rhaegar shouted to Raymun.
A moment later, a loud and deep sound rang out, making the entire Targaryen and Tyrell army retreat.
Entering the main tent, Rhaegar removed his helmet and showed a face tired and soiled with mud and blood.
"What happened?" the king asked in a confused tone.
"Trouble, big trouble." Cadmus said in a helpless tone.
