The Grove was dying around us. Glass trees shattering. The ground splitting. Silver light spreading from where Astro's blood had fallen.
And through it all, Ori's screams.
"We have to find him." Astro's voice was strained. His hands were still bleeding. Still dripping essence that poisoned the trial.
Which direction?
"I don't know. The Grove is collapsing too fast. Everything's shifting."
We ran through the chaos. Dodging falling trees. Avoiding the spreading cracks in the ground. The entire forest was coming apart.
Then I saw them.
Three mirrors.
Not trees. Not reflections in glass trunks. Actual mirrors. Standing upright in a small clearing that seemed untouched by the destruction. Each one was massive. Ten feet tall. Framed in bone and silver.
They shouldn't have been there. Shouldn't have survived while everything else shattered. But they stood perfectly intact. Perfectly still. Waiting.
