Haven Prime stood before me, hand extended. The three mirrors behind her showing past, present, and future. All broken versions of me.
"Choose." Her voice was patient. "Give up or watch him die."
I looked at the mirrors. At past Haven begging. At present Haven kneeling. At future Haven burning.
Three truths. Three possibilities. Three ways to be broken.
And I made my choice.
I stepped past Haven Prime. Moved toward the first mirror. The one showing my past.
"What are you doing?" Haven Prime's voice held warning.
I didn't answer. Couldn't answer. I raised my fist.
And drove it through the past mirror.
The glass exploded. Shattered outward in a spray of razor-sharp fragments. Pain lanced through my hand where the edges cut deep. Silver blood welled from dozens of cuts.
But I didn't stop. I kept hitting. Kept destroying. Breaking the mirror that showed me begging Ethan. That showed me at my weakest. That showed who I'd been.
