Chapter 12 Part 1: Morning Calm and Unease
At dawn, Mo Ran jogged along the city river.
Her mood was rather decent today. Situ Qiong seemed to have finally come to her senses and had been intimate with Xia Wenxue while traveling outside the city though there was a hint of jealousy, as long as Qiong was waking up, Mo Ran felt more at ease.
As for Zhuang Yuxia... she seemed to have had fewer contacts with Ye Shengge recently.
If they were secretly sleeping together, Mo Ran wouldn't know.
But that good mood was quickly broken.
"Why are you here?"
Seeing the man standing at the bend ahead, Mo Ran's face cooled she gave him no kindness.
The man himself Ye Shengge smiled broadly and waved. "Yo, what a coincidence you jog here too?"
"Do you usually run from here to the park and then back?"
"Hah..." Mo Ran let out a breath and said flatly, "I'm not interested in talking to you."
"Hey, wait, Senior Mo Ran!"
He wore exercise-friendly gear just like her and followed at an unhurried pace by her side.
"Not afraid of dying, are you."
She glanced at him and said coldly, "If you're still harboring any dirty ideas... I won't kill you, but that thing below I'll cripple it."
"Whoa, whoa! Senior Mo, don't be so fierce to a junior~" he said cheerfully. "Chance encounter and all same university, same club let's run together and be civil."
"Chance? Heh..."
"No, this really is fate." He waved a hand. "I actually started running because of you."
"Honestly, I wanted to ask how to train a body like yours a freak physique leaping eaves and flipping in through my balcony... too freakish."
"Hah..." Mo Ran gradually slowed her steps and gave him a glare. "Follow me any further and I'll use force."
"You won't," he said confidently. "If you were going to, that night was the best chance."
"If you didn't then, in broad daylight you won't either."
"Tch..."
She hadn't expected him to be so shameless. She stopped jogging and began to speed up.
He naturally tried to keep pace.
But after a minute or so, he was flagging, while her speed showed no sign of slack she pulled farther and farther away.
In moments, she opened a large gap, leaving him far behind.
Damn! This woman's physical condition is insane !
He couldn't help marveling again.
...
After dropping him, Mo Ran gradually eased her pace and continued along the river.
The cool morning breeze blew away her irritability. After about thirty more minutes, following the river downstream, she reached a lakeside park.
There was a small pier by the lake, where many came to fish in the early morning.
"Yo, good morning, little miss Mo Ran!"
"Good morning."
She jogged daily; some regulars had grown familiar enough to greet this beauty. But they also sensed her chill. An ice-cold beauty most men didn't dare approach; at best, they watched from afar and occasionally exchanged a greeting.
Mo Ran walked to the pier's snack stall, bought a bottle of water, then stood lakeside to admire the scenery. She twisted off the cap and tipped the bottle back, drinking it dry.
"Click."
A camera sound. She slowly lowered the bottle and turned her eyes clearly promised to tear the man in half.
Ye Shengge panted, phone in hand, smiling. "Senior Mo Ran, I get why you like ending your jog here!"
"The place really is beautiful in the morning! Seems I should make this a habit " he glanced at her and added with a smile, "Senior, you won't restrict my personal freedom and bar me from coming, right?"
"Hmph..."
"But honestly, compared to the scenery, you're the more pleasant view," he said. "Measured against you, the landscape pales."
Who is this kid?!
Nearby anglers were stunned someone actually dared to hit on Mo Ran?
From the way he addressed her, maybe a university junior?
Mo Ran was silent for a while, then walked to him and stretched out her hand. "Give me your phone."
"Uh S-Senior Mo Ran, you wouldn't want to pry into my privacy..."
"Give... it."
"Yes, ma'am."
He knew to go along and handed it over obediently.
She opened the gallery; the corner of her mouth twitched.
Inside were photos of various women in obscene postures being pounded by him naturally including Situ Qiong and Zhuang Yuxia.
She ignored most of that and opened the newest photo: herself by the lake, head tipped back drinking her figure traced an impeccable curve enough to turn any head.
Without hesitation, she deleted the photo, then grabbed his collar and, before he could react, casually tossed him into the lake.
"Splash!"
"?!"
Everyone around was dumbfounded.
Never mind the ease with which she one-armed a solid adult male into the water she was ruthless to a man who dared flirt.
Those who had once considered approaching her silently exhaled good thing they chickened out; otherwise it'd be them in the drink.
He floundered a moment and quickly surfaced, helpless. "Senior, that's excessive."
"Hmph."
She set the phone on the ground and jogged away.
He climbed back up with the help of a kindly angler.
"Kid, you've got guts!"
The man who helped him shook his head. "That girl either doesn't want love or her heart's taken. Give up."
"Thanks, uncle, but I don't plan to give up so easily."
Mo Ran... I'm going to have you.
After that night, he didn't feel fear if anything, a fiercer hunger to conquer burned.
She'd been thoughtful enough not to toss the phone with him. He took the towel the man handed him, dried off, and picked up the neatly set phone.
"Ah ! Alright, good luck!" The man clapped his shoulder. "If you can crack her icy heart, everyone around here will look at you differently!"
"Oh? Then I better try."
He smiled, returned the towel, and said, "Thanks, uncle. We'll probably meet again. I've no cash on me today next time drinks are on me. Bye!"
He turned and took off after Mo Ran.
...
On day two, same place they met again.
"Senior hey, don't run!"
She sped up the instant she saw him.
By the time he reached the pier, she was already preparing to leave.
"Heh..."
Passing him, she gave a cold, contemptuous snort that look said she didn't think much of him at all.
...
On day three, day four...
Every morning they "bumped into" each other. Every time, she sped up and opened the gap.
And every day, he never gave up almost like he'd embraced these dawn runs in earnest.
Several days passed like this.
One morning, when he arrived, she didn't leave. She stood by the lake, as if waiting for him.
"Mo "
He hadn't finished before she walked forward and held out her hand. "Phone."
"Ah? Oh..."
He handed it over. She opened the gallery and scanned it. There were a few more lewd shots of women but none of Zhuang Yuxia or Situ Qiong.
She returned the phone. "Where are Zhuang and Qiong?"
"Uh... haven't properly spoken with them these days."
He replied honestly. "Qiong... I see her often because we share classes, but we don't talk much now."
"Really?"
"I swear!"
She paused, then returned the phone and turned to leave.
"Don't think this wins my favor."
With that, she left.
