Chapter 109 - Upgrade

After concluding the Archmagos promotion ceremony, Osiris opted to remain on the Forge World.

Besides personally assessing the NXS-07 cruiser's condition and planning its modifications, he also needed to complete a crucial procedure: updating his personal equipment according to tradition, to match his new status as an Exploration Archmagos.

In the grand hall of the Forge World's central armory, Osiris completed the application process for standard issue equipment.

The core equipment he acquired included two iconic items.

First was the Dragonscale Pattern Power Armor.

This combat suit, designed specifically for Tech-Priests, had a basic structure composed of adamantium and ceramite in a special composite ratio, hand-forged by veteran foundry artisans.

The armor's most prominent feature was its complete integration with the wearer's energy system; an embedded energy conduction matrix directly connected to the wearer's power core, eliminating the need for external power units.

Theoretically, as long as the wearer's energy did not deplete, this armor could operate continuously.

Osiris had long studied the exceptional performance of this armor, but due to insufficient authorization, he had been unable to acquire it in the past; now, he finally got his wish.

Second was the omnissiah's Axe, symbolizing the Archmagos's authority.

This was a majestic long-handled power weapon, its axe blade etched with precise mechanical litanies, and its internal power field generator continuously emitted a low hum in standby mode.

Like an Archmagos' staff, it was a tangible representation of status and duty.

The Forge World only provided the standard issue version; subsequent personalized modifications and functional enhancements would become Osiris' independent research projects.

Additionally, he also received more mechanical tendrils of various functions and a batch of new servo-skulls as prescribed.

These were standard configurations for an Archmagos, considered regular supplementary equipment.

For Osiris, the truly critical equipment upgrades came from the long-sealed personal collections he activated upon returning to his private laboratory.

These were precious artifacts he had secretly accumulated over years of exploration and archaeological work, some of which possessed technology so dangerous and heretical that it could overload Fabricator-General Vox's logic core.

The first item he retrieved was a miniaturized void shield generator.

This relic from the Dark Age of Technology was designed for single-person use; its technical principles were the same as the Imperial Navy's active void shields, but its miniaturization far exceeded contemporary standards.

Osiris had previously kept it carefully hidden, but now, with Archmagos authority and the isolated environment provided by his soon-to-be-acquired independent research vessel, he could finally safely research and equip it.

Next was a series of carefully "embellished" xenos-tech weapons.

Most notable among them was an energy weapon rebranded as "Arc Scourge."

It was originally a phase weapon from "a certain" ancient xenos race, capable of firing destructive arcs that twisted like living things.

Osiris completely transformed its external form and energy characteristics, making it appear as a product of ancient human technology.

Its multi-spectrum destructive field could attack multiple targets simultaneously or entangle enemy war machines to unleash overload pulses, enough to turn a main battle tank into scrap metal within seconds.

Paired with it was a "Tachyon Particle Arrow" launcher installed on his other arm.

This also originated from xenos-tech, capable of instantly transforming inert metal into an indestructible energy arrow, with penetration power sufficient to pierce mountains; Osiris planned to use it as a covert assault weapon.

He also retrieved a phase sword from the same source, glowing with an eerie green light.

He did not intend to use it directly but planned to dismantle its core phase technology to enhance the omnissiah's Axe, imbuing it with the special ability to unravel the fundamental structure of matter.

A homologous xenos hand cannon, labeled "Hatefire Pistol," was also on the equipment list.

This weapon emitted special pulses that could cause violent mutual repulsion of the target's own atoms, leading to destructive disintegration from within.

The most dangerous was a "Reversal Beam" weapon system.

This was a perilous variant of conversion beam technology, extremely rare even in the Imperium, known for its devastating effectiveness at close range.

It required immense energy support; a single shot could even obliterate an entire squad of Terminator armored warriors.

Osiris had always struggled with insufficient energy to power it, until now.

Additionally, there was a relatively "conventional" heavy melta cannon, a powerful melta weapon left over from the Great Crusade era; although immensely powerful, it seemed rather unremarkable compared to his other collections.

To power these astonishingly energy-intensive equipments, especially the miniaturized void shield and the Reversal Beam system, Osiris knew that his original energy core was no longer sufficient.

In the core area of his laboratory, he performed a critical upgrade on himself: installing a new high-density plasma reactor.

This reactor's output power was more than three times that of older models, and its complex thermal management and energy diversion systems occupied most of his chest cavity.

When the reactor activated, a faint blue light emanated through the armor's seams, and Osiris could feel an unprecedented surge of energy within his body.

After completing the initial armament modifications, Osiris' physique underwent a significant change.

Integrating the basic frame of the Dragonscale Pattern Power Armor, along with more auxiliary mechanical tendrils and built-in weapon systems, made his body nearly one-third more massive than before, exuding a stronger sense of oppression.

However, the cost of this enhancement was also directly reflected in his posture.

To power the miniaturized void shield generator, the Reversal Beam weapon system, and other high-energy-consumption equipment, his newly installed high-density plasma reactor was not only larger but also far heavier than anticipated.

This continuously radiating high-temperature, low-humming energy core, like a heavy metal furnace, was firmly secured to his back and chest frame.

The continuous immense load forced Osiris' originally upright mechanical body to lean slightly forward, his spinal structure forming a slightly hunched arc under multiple stresses.

This gave him a heavy sensation when walking, as if carrying a great burden, each step accompanied by the subtle hydraulic sound of his power joints bearing the weight.

Although this posture diminished the precise uprightness expected of a mechanical construct, it added a dignified aura of accumulated experience and latent danger.

In his private collection vault, there were still several extremely rare ancient relics and xenos artifacts that could not be integrated into his current body due to various limitations.

Among them was a control circlet capable of exerting mental influence on living beings; its operational principle involved subtle psychic energy mapping and required stable psychic talent to be effectively driven.

As a purely mechanically enhanced individual, Osiris himself did not possess psychic potential, making this theoretically invaluable relic merely an inoperable, exquisite artifact to him for now.

Besides this, there were several other precious ancient relics from the Dark Age of Technology, but the core limitation was that his body's existing physical interfaces and energy load capacity were already nearing saturation.

Every new powerful system required corresponding conduction lines, heat dissipation structures, and most importantly—a stable energy supply.

Although the new reactor's power far exceeded previous ones, after powering the existing systems, its redundant power was scarce, unable to safely support more advanced equipment.

Therefore, Osiris had to make strategic trade-offs, prioritizing the integration of the most critical defensive and offensive systems.

The precious artifacts that could not be equipped for now were carefully sealed and labeled "Pending Future Upgrade Projects."

They foreshadowed a long path of future enhancement—whether it be finding more efficient energy cores, developing more advanced interface technologies, or creating a body more capable of bearing these dangerous forces, all would be the next stage of challenges this newly promoted Exploration Archmagos would have to face.

At this moment, bearing his current weight, he walked steadily towards his waiting new ship, the mobile base that could accommodate more secrets and power.
