Agent Coulson is back.
When he parted ways with Nick Fury, he was in a hurry, with many ideas in mind that he was ready to put into practice.
He still comes and goes in a hurry, but he seems even more anxious as he heads to the director's office.
He didn't understand why Nick Fury did that.
The mutants at St. Kent Academy have clearly shown their restless nature.
Faced with this situation, we should act swiftly and decisively to eliminate all potential threats!
If this is delayed any longer, it could lead to serious trouble!
"Why did the director order me to abandon the operation and return immediately? Could it be... pressure from higher-ups?"
Agent Coulson thought for a long time and felt that this was the only plausible possibility; the other options were simply not feasible.
St. Kent College has high-level backing...
Upon considering this possibility, Agent Coulson felt a chill run down his spine, realizing that he had likely come across some more damaging information.
......
Upon entering the director's office, Agent Coulson found Nick Fury playing with a cat.
The latter gently stroked the cat's head, softly comforting it:
"Don't be afraid, it's all over now. Just sleep it off and you'll feel better. Just pretend nothing happened. You're still that happy, food-loving orange cat..."
Nick Fury was comforting Fatty Orange when he heard a noise and turned around to see Agent Coulson.
The latter's gaze was somewhat strange, but more than anything, it was filled with confusion.
"Chief, what happened that made you rescind your previous order?"
Agent Coulson asked tentatively:
"Is this an order from higher-ups? Besides Mr. Howard's background, does St. Kent Academy have other powerful backers?"
Nick Fury's expression had calmed down:
"No, it's just that I received a threatening card, and I got scared, so I called you back."
Agent Coulson's lips twitched:
"Chief, this joke isn't funny at all!"
What did Nick Fury just say? Did he say he was scared?
What kind of international joke is this? The director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a super-powerful figure who can face the two leaders of mutants without flinching, how could he be intimidated by a few threats?
Nick Fury shrugged.
"I know you don't believe me, and I know what I'm saying sounds like a joke, but it's really true."
He knew Agent Coulson wouldn't believe him.
He won't believe it if you tell him about it before he experiences it firsthand.
But... that's really the truth!
No more nonsense.
Nick Fury gently handed the unremarkable card to Agent Coulson:
"It was this card that made me change my mind. You should take a look too."
Agent Coulson frowned as he took the card and saw the printed text:
Nothing happened in Manhattan today.
Agent Coulson's forehead veins bulged:
"Chief! You were scared by just a card? Even if those mutants can sneak into the office silently, it's because the defense system wasn't activated!"
"S.H.I.E.L.D.'s defenses can absolutely guarantee your safety!"
Nick Fury's expression remained unchanged:
"Take a look at the back."
Agent Coulson was very obedient; he looked at the back as instructed.
After watching it, Agent Coulson remained as somber as ever:
"An 's'? I don't understand what that letter means!"
Nick Fury patted his bald, hard-boiled head:
"I forgot, your access level isn't that high; there are some things you can't know."
After a pause, Nick Fury continued:
"But with your qualifications, it'll be soon, so telling you in advance isn't a big problem."
Agent Coulson's expression turned serious; he knew that Nick Fury was about to speak about something very important and confidential.
Nick Fury continued:
Do you know about Faraway Island?
Agent Coulson nodded:
"I know perfectly well, after all, that's the main location of the infamous Faraway Island Incident, so of course I know."
"A fleet of the Ministry of the Navy is deployed on Far Voyage Island. It is the strategic forward of Las Vegas and a maritime defense line to ensure the safety of the country."
"However, four years ago, Far Voyage Island was completely swallowed by a tsunami, which also seemed to involve something like an underwater volcano, and this strategic forward base disappeared completely..."
As Agent Coulson spoke, he realized something was wrong.
The two had previously discussed matters concerning St. Kent Academy, specifically the threatening cards.
How did this get involved in the Faraway Island incident?
Nick Fury nodded and began to speak:
"What you said is all correct, but the information you know is a public version that the Ministry of the Navy deliberately released to reassure the general public."
"The real inside story of the Far Voyage Island incident... is that Far Voyage Island really disappeared, but this disappeared island was not swallowed by a tsunami or sunk by an underwater volcanic eruption it was deliberately erased from the map!"
Agent Coulson's composure vanished completely. After a moment of utter astonishment, he seemed to realize something and pressed for an answer again:
"Director, what about the fleet stationed on Faraway Island? The Ministry of the Navy says that the fleet withdrew safely..."
Nick Fury glanced at him, then coldly retorted, his tone tinged with sarcasm:
"A safe and sound retreat?"
"If having only a unit's name left means you're safe and sound, then Haibu is absolutely right."
"The real truth is that in that man-made disaster, Far Voyage Island disappeared, and the fleet stationed there also disappeared!"
"Leaving aside the smaller ships, all seventy-three large warships, including that aircraft carrier, sank to the bottom and were completely destroyed by external forces, with no possibility of repair!"
"Afterwards, the Ministry of the Navy specially dispatched a frogman task force to explore the sea, and finally found a card in the aircraft carrier's command room."
Nick Fury looked at Agent Coulson:
You should know what I mean, right?
Agent Coulson offered no further objections and nodded repeatedly:
"I understand, Chief. You did the right thing. You made the right choice. Nothing happened today. Manhattan is sunny and peaceful, without any disturbances!"
Nick Fury nodded and fell silent as he continued to comfort the orange cat.
Agent Coulson, standing behind Nick Fury, finally couldn't suppress his curiosity and asked in a low voice:
"Director, what's written on the front of that card we found on the aircraft carrier in the Far Voyage Island fleet?"
Just like the card that appeared in the director's office today, the front of the card reads "Nothing happened in Manhattan today."
There should be some information left on that card from Faraway Island, right?
Nick Fury glanced at him, and after a long pause, slowly said:
"That card has one more line of text than this card."
"It says..."
"Not doing stupid things doesn't necessarily mean you'll die, but doing stupid things will definitely lead to your death."
"You can try being reckless one more time."
Agent Coulson swallowed hard, barely managing to suppress the shock in his heart.
Try again?
Will you die if you try?
Who would dare to try it if they knew the consequences?
"Director, is there any other intelligence? What terrible thing did the Navy do?"
This time it was Nick Fury's turn to shake his head:
"The Kaifu side claims they don't know what the card is saying and refuses to admit it has anything to do with them but in my opinion, they're just guilty!"
"Apart from those generals on the Navy side, I'm afraid even the one in the White House doesn't know the truth of the matter."
Nick Fury glanced at Agent Coulson, his expression somewhat subtle:
"So... if you want to know the truth, you can go to Kaibu to find out some information."
"To be honest, four years have passed, and I still want to know the truth about this matter."
Agent Coulson fell silent.
Should we go to Kaibu to ask for the truth?
This is probably the most unwelcome secret within the Ministry of the Navy; he must be tired of living to actively expose this!
Finally, with a stiff face, he said:
"The sun is shining brightly today, and the birds are singing and the flowers are blooming. I'm going to go sunbathe."
Nick Fury nodded, offering no objection.
In fact, as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury knew some inside information.
He knew that four years ago, the Ministry of the Navy had organized a manpower operation to carry out a capture plan, but in the end, there was no news of them.
Nick Fury put the two events together and speculated that it was very likely that the capture plan angered the person who delivered the card, which led to the famous "Voyage Island Incident".
Of course, Nick Fury only needs to know these things himself; there's no need for him to specifically tell Agent Coulson.
