Chapter 4 - Awakening

The abandoned house still shook violently. Blue sparks crackled from the metal gloves, scorching on the walls. Noir, though her strength was fading, still managed to dodge his deadly blows by a hair's breadth, but his speed was so fast that it seemed to shatter the space around him. Each breath, each footstep seemed clearer in the silent night. The more he fought, the more frenzied he became, shouting at her as if to convince himself.

"Noir! You can't escape." He shouted, cold and ruthless.

Noir didn't respond, her face icy, using her own blows as a reply. The man attacked with increasing fury.

Noir's blue eyes glowed. The world slowed down. She saw clearly the direction of the attack, the angle of the next punch, every greedy thought of a hunting dog. But before she could move, electricity swept across, breaking her focused, forcing Noir to take a few steps back. The electricity on his gloves made her skin burn even more. The organization's weapons were never simple toys.

"Your ability to read me is useless against the speed of electricity." *gritted teeth.*

"Just obediently raise your hands to be tied up, won't that save you some effort?"

"So I can have a little bonus to fund my upgrade, Noir?" *held his hands up in front of her face*

Noir froze, sweat streaming down her face. Blood dripped from every cut on her body, shining faintly in the dim light that leaked through the rain-drenched ceiling. Tangled thoughts raced through her mind.

/ My eyes… should I? /

In a moment of utter despair, Noir slipped into a state of half-consciousness, and suddenly, the red eye on Noir's left side flickered and then burst into light. Energy surged, forcing Noir into a frenzied battle state, transforming her into a bloodthirsty monster. She charged forward, her speed matching that of lightning bolts. The moment he stood there smugly, pain erupted, and the man had no time to react. Noir continued to charge forward, her dagger slicing through the air, blood splattering everywhere.

He counterattacked helplessly, unable to see her position. Noir moved like a phantom, her face indistinguishable, only a vague silhouette and a bloodshot eye visible in the darkness. He gritted his teeth.

"Damn it..." *whispered*

He tried to respond with electric sparks that would tear others to ashes at that fleeting shadow, but not only was it ineffective, it also injured himself. Noir's attack left a clear streak of blood on his face, dripping onto the ground. He clutched his face in pain with one hand while still trying to defend himself with the other. She didn't forget to mock him with her attack.

"Keep sniffing around, puppy..."

"Foolish..."

He roared, lashing out wildly at the air like a maddened bear. One of his blows struck Noir's left elbow. She calmly stepped out of the shadows, facing the man directly.

But this time, instead of being overwhelmed, Noir regained her senses and clenched her teeth. Her blue eye flashed simultaneously, keeping her mind alert. Two streams of power collided in her head, chaotic... then merged into one. Her left eye was red, her right eye was blue.

The world opened up before her eyes. Every electrical movement, every gap in the attack, everything was clear. Her body didn't just react on fiery instinct, but was also guided by the cold calculation of her blue eyes.

"Today... seems to be the last day you'll hear the rain falling..."

"I've got it under control... buddy!" *dashes forward*

Noir spun around, the dagger slicing through the metal gloves. The electric current faded, falling to the ground with an irritating clang. He froze, Noir attacked relentlessly, and finally, a cold stab pierced his left chest. The man who had been so loud and threatening moments ago could only stare at Noir in disbelief before collapsing... The stench of blood filled the old house.

The room fell silent. Noir stood panting, blood flowing from her arm, but her eyes no longer trembled. One eye blue, one eye red, they shone together in the darkness.

Noir wiped the blood from her knife, quietly walked over to the cold body, and stomped hard on the employee tracking device in the man's sleeve. Noir exited the house through the front door, pulled her hood up, and stepped into the drizzling rain outside. Neon lights reflected on the wet pavement, alongside her two distinctively colored eyes.

In the darkness, Noir smiled faintly.

"The game begins..."

A solitary figure walked quietly down the street, the sound of footsteps echoing calmly on the rain-soaked road, then fading into the distance. But somewhere, a flickering red light flashed and then vanished, unnoticed, no one knows...
