Chapter 8 - Chapter 7

As a father Raanan knew he should be more considerate towards his daughter but as the family patriarch he had to consider the family first above anything else. He was slightly conflicted but even that conflict was a fleeting emotion.

"Unfortunately your opinion in the matter is not needed, after all this is for the good of the family." Raanan said with a serious voice that conveyed his disappointment and authority. He spoke like a patriarch and not a father. Renata could not help but feel defeated in that moment.

She wondered to herself what was she expecting from this man, he might 'love her' on the surface but it was nothing more than self preservation. He did not love her, she silently scorned in her heart that if it was Julie who was in this dilemma he would not say such words. Father my arse, he simply doesn't care.

Little did Renata know that her father had his own troubles but he simply could not voice out his heartfelt thoughts to her. He once again wished she was not useless in cultivation, in that way she would be more free to choose her own path. Even if she had average talent, it would have been good enough.

Raanan walked away without looking back or waiting for Renata to respond. Renata could only sigh in defeat before going to sleep once again.

Even though it seemed like she was sleeping, she was plotting on what to do next. As night fell and the residence was quiet, Renata slowly sneaked out to the library.

This place was not guarded at night, this was something she had noticed in passing, but she still could not be certain if that was true so she waited for when the guards had their shift before heading towards the library in a hurry.

The library was slightly separate from the residence, it was situated in a place that accommodated both craftsman stations and an old area that was once used for alchemy.

In passing conversations, she found out that the Nasir family specialised in craftsmanship and a minor knowledge in alchemy but years went by and the talent for alchemy had dwindled and the family had not produced a good seed for 50 years. The last renowned alchemist of the family was rumoured to have become a wanderer who chose to explore the world, sighting loneliness and boredom.

She finally arrived in front of the giant oak door, she wondered if it would make a noise and if there were alarms set in place. Before she could think much she heard voices approaching, she quickly hid behind a giant object that was placed as decoration.

"Man I am stuffed. Your girlfriend really is a great cook." Two men were heartily conversing. They must be the guards, Renata pondered. I guess this place was guarded after all, I can only blame myself for being careless. As her thoughts wondered, the two men were approaching the giant door that led inside the building.

One of them scanned their iris, while another entered numbers on a keypad. Renata thought how lucky I hid behind this object which was across the door but how unfortunate that she did not know if the iris was based on biology or through authorisation. Technology in this world was more advanced than her past life, therefore she had no idea how it would work.

Once the two men entered, Renata turned towards the residential area. I guess today could be counted as a scouting day. She felt disappointed because she wanted to find a solution without people knowing or paying attention to her.

She wondered if she should take the risk and visit the library during the day, but she had heard there were requirements to enter certain floors. Your cultivation had to be a certain level or your potential had to be good. The library had floors divided in Mortal, Immortal , Heaven and Divine level; the floors were based on the four big realms of this world. As the names suggested, a person could only go to a floor corresponding to their realm but there were exceptions to the rule, those who opened 6 or more veins were allowed access to the Heaven level, even though they could not practice those heavenly manuals until the 8th and final layer of Foundation Building realm; which was a small realm in the Immortal realm. It helped in laying a proper foundation for future cultivation.

If Renata went she could access the Mortal level of the library, she was not sure she could find a divine manual in that level but even if she managed to sneak in she might not be able to reach the divine level either since there might be certain mechanisms set in place.

Once again she felt defeated but she could not be weak if she wanted to live in this world therefore she could only brave the storm.
