"Alright who was it!?"
Kagari's tone of voice was so loud that the heads in the class turned towards the direction of the girls. She had slammed her hand on Chihiro's desk to punctuate her fury but this only led to her face flushing a crimson red as she realized how loud she was.
"Thanks for drawing such attention to us, very helpful." Yukina quipped sarcastically, only deepening Kagari's flustered blush. Meanwhile Chihiro did her best to soothe the tension with a nervous smile.
"Hey! Hey! We don't know who that letter is from, but we should be happy that Yuuji is-"
"Oh please!" Kagari huffed, crossing her arms. "I know your game! 'Ohhh im just the sweet innocent childhood friend, im no threat at all-, Then as soon as our guard is down you swoop in for the kill by confessing before we can!"
"That wasn't my note! I-"
"Really Akemi-san? use your brain" Yukina sighed as she crossed her legs, she was sitting in the chair opposite to Chihiro' desk as Kagari still loomed over Chihiro's desk.
"Thank you Yukina-san!" Chihiro smiled gratefully, feeling the tension leave her body.
"Yoshida-san would never do such a thing so directly. Besides, the handwriting on that note was much too neat and girly for it to be her handwriting."
Whether it was an intentional jab or another one of Yukina's emotionless observations, Chihiro's cheerful face still deflated as she mumbled under her breath with a pout.
"What's wrong with my handwriting?...."
Yukina ignored Chihiro's whimper and focused her attention on Kagari, her icy eyes narrowing slightly.
"That being said, I doubt it could've been you either, Considering you of all people would never be so…eloquent in love note"
Kagari huffed "is this some roundabout way of admitting you wrote the note Yukina? You're so used to tossing out love notes I never thought you'd be able to write one"
"I would never resort to such juvenile tactics. If I were to confess to Yamada-san i'd take him to one of the many Murajima family vacation residences."
"I think we are getting off topic here!" Chihiro piped up once again to diffuse the tension. "Yuyu-san is a popular guy, so i'm sure it could be anyone in school couldn't it?"
Kagari and Yukina looked at each other before nodding. "Understood." Yukina said, straightening up in her seat. "Perhaps Suzuki is not nearly as innocent as she appears-"
"What!? No no that's not what I meant at all!" Chihiro said frantically, but it was too late. She could see on Kagari's face that the idea was already rolling around her head now as well.
"It couldn't be…does she have no shame?! S-surely Yamada-san would never! I-i mean they are practically siblings!-"
Yukina put her slender finger to her lips in a contemplative pose. "She has already lived with him in the same house for the last two years…why wait until now to confess?"
"Yukina-san, how do you know where he lives?-" Chihiro began only to be cut off by Kagari.
"She just entered high school this year didn't she? She's trying to lock him down before he goes into senior year!"
"I really don't think-"
Yukina nodded. "That could be a motivation…this requires more investigation"
Just then her eyes flicked towards the clock on the wall and she stood up. "Seems that the first period is about to begin, come along Akemi-san."
"We still have ten minutes!" Kagari protested with a pout but still walked away with Yukina anyways, her strawberry orange twintails trailing behind her as she walked.
Chihiro breathed a sigh of relief, putting her chin in her hands as she leaned forward on her desk. She had always prided herself on being the best friend Yuuji could ask for. Nostalgic memories of summer days spent splashing in the waters of Okinawa and nights sleeping side by side in the Ryokan after their elementary school soccer games lulled to sleep by the island cicadas still lingered in her mind years later.
When they finally reunited in their first year of Highschool she was just so happy to see her best friend again that seeing Yuuji slowly surround himself with other girls never registered as a threat in her mind.
She could never pinpoint when exactly those feelings went from friendship to a secret longing. Anytime she had previously flirted with the idea her rational mind had quickly snuffed out the notion. Why ruin a good thing? If she were to let Yuuji know about her feelings and he didn't reciprocate she'd be putting their friendship at risk.
So why did the idea of him finally getting a girlfriend make her so nervous?
It couldn't be Suzuki-chan….could it? Yuyu would never- unless?
"Ughh!" Chihiro rested her forehead on the desk with a groan.
I hope to god I don't have a crush on a closet sis-con
