Chapter 109 — [Undying X Subtype]
"Pull over," Michael said weakly from the back seat.
Selene ignored him.
"I said pull over!"
He grabbed the front seat with one hand and reached toward Selene's shoulder with the other.
She immediately drew her gun and pointed it at his head.
"Back off!"
"You're bleeding! If you don't stop the car, we're all going to die!"
Michael looked dead serious — but Selene didn't even respond.
Seeing she wouldn't listen, he turned to William.
"Man, help me talk to her! If this keeps up, all three of us are dead!"
"Relax, man. Nobody's dying," William said calmly.
"Oh — correction. We aren't dying. You? Hard to say."
He flashed Michael a bright grin.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" Michael's head was spinning.
"Both of you, shut up!" Selene snapped. The pain in her shoulder and waves of dizziness from blood loss made her irritable.
Michael immediately went quiet.
William raised his hands and made a zipper motion across his lips.
Then it happened.
Selene lost consciousness.
Her hands slipped off the wheel, her body slumping sideways.
"Shit!" Michael shouted, lunging forward to grab the steering wheel—
A cold gun barrel pressed against his forehead.
William. One hand holding a pistol on him.
"What the hell is happening?!" Michael felt like he was hallucinating.
Not because of the gun.
But because the car — despite Selene passing out — was still driving smoothly.
William was watching the road ahead.
No mystery there.
With one hand he restrained Michael.
With Metal Control, he manipulated the steering wheel, gas, and brakes.
Thank god the car manufacturer didn't cheap out — all the critical components were metal.
"Watch out!" Michael yelled as the road ahead suddenly ended.
William didn't let off the gas.
Instead, he tapped the brakes once, cranked the steering wheel fully, and yanked the handbrake.
The car spun sideways in a controlled slide.
Tires screamed.
The vehicle stopped perfectly at the road's edge — only inches from plunging into the river below.
Michael stared, stunned.
William, meanwhile, casually adjusted his grip on the wheel — still controlling it without touching it.
Like it was just another Tuesday.
Michael clutched his head, still shaking.
"Thank God…"
"You should be thanking me, kid."
Michael blinked at William. "Dude, you're barely older than me. And how the hell did you just do that with the car?!"
William didn't answer. He simply opened the door and stepped out.
"Hey! What are you doing? She's hurt — she needs help!"
Michael pointed at Selene.
But William didn't leave.
He walked around to the back seat, yanked the door open, and grabbed Michael by the collar.
"Hey! What the hell are you doing?!" Michael struggled.
Pointless. William was far stronger.
He dragged him out like dead weight.
Michael opened his mouth to protest—
A sharp blow to the back of his neck.
Darkness.
He collapsed unconscious.
William frowned.
"Hm? He got bitten?"
Using Disease Transfer, he sensed a new condition inside Michael:
[Undying · Wolf Subtype]
Pulling aside Michael's collar, William saw the massive bite wound on his neck.
"Tch. Lucky kid, running into me."
Sure, as the protagonist Michael would probably survive in the end — but not without suffering first.
William shook his head and extracted the Wolf Subtype virus, storing it in his Disease Space.
He tossed Michael back into the rear seat.
Then he turned to Selene.
He lifted her from the driver's seat and laid her gently across the hood.
Pulse steady. Just unconscious from blood loss.
She'd wake naturally.
But William had an idea.
Underworld vampires grow stronger by consuming powerful blood.
So…
What would his blood do?
And even if she became stronger, he wasn't worried. He could always pull the vampire virus out of her and revert her to human — just a very experienced fighter.
He drew a knife and cut his palm.
The wound healed before blood could even drip.
"…Seriously?"
He sighed.
"Of course it can't be easy."
He pressed his hand to Selene's lips and cut deeper.
Blood dripped onto her mouth.
The scent triggered her instinct.
Her eyes snapped open.
She bit into his arm and drank deeply.
What does it feel like to be fed on by a six-hundred-year-old woman?
Honestly?
Just… hurts a bit.
Then William felt it.
Something new.
A reaction inside his body.
A mutation.
[Undying · X Subtype]
William immediately pulled his arm away.
Selene looked almost reluctant to stop — eyes dark with hunger.
Then clarity returned.
She wiped blood from her lips and stared at him.
"You knew what I am."
"More or less," William shrugged. "So? Tasty?"
While speaking, he removed the X Subtype virus from himself and stored it.
Selene didn't answer. She scanned their surroundings — riverside, car intact, Michael still inside.
"I'm leaving. Thank you… for saving me."
She glanced into the distance. Lucian wasn't pursuing.
"Wait," William said. "Do you feel anything different?"
She frowned. "What do you mean?"
William wasn't sure if his abilities could be inherited through blood.
But he was certain his blood reacted with Undying viruses — likely something genetic.
"Like this."
He lifted the knife with Metal Control, making it float before her, then released it.
Selene caught it reflexively.
She stared at him.
"What are you trying to say?"
"You drank my blood. I want to know if you inherited anything. That's all."
