Leo lay down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Seraphine was curled up on the bed beside him, her arm wrapped his chest. Exhaustion had finally claimed her.
But Leo couldn't sleep.
The throbbing pain in his arm was a reminder that without the system, he was just a guy from Earth, who ended up in this abnormal world.
He missed Aiva.
He missed the passive radar that warned him of danger.
He missed the feeling that no matter the situation, he could make it.
He lay there for hours, watching the moon track across the sky through the window.
And he did not how much time passed, but sometime deep in the night, maybe three or four in the morning, he heard the door handle turn.
Leo's hand snapped to the dagger he had rested on his chest. He held his breath.
The door opened silently. A figure slipped in.
"Master!" a soft voice whispered, "It's me."
It was Shadow.
