A second from the other, we appeared in the parking lot where I left my car. It was dark that I didn't even bother to look if anyone had seen us appear suddenly. We entered my car and I drove off.
"What the hell is happening?" I asked with a demanding tone.
"There is a dragon that has been chasing me from the night we fought till now. And the worst part is, he can turn into a human," Simon said. Still breathing as heavily as hell.
"The dragon is chasing you, not us, boy wonder. So go and deal with that on your own," I said, and took a sip from my champagne, which I must have unconsciously gotten.
But if the dragon was chasing only him, then why did I feel the dragon's presence at home the other night? If that was what I really felt.
Unless something else was chasing me and not the dragon. But what was stocking me? What did they want from me?
"He is not just chasing me, you idiot, he is hunting all magical beings. He has killed my team," he whispered and paused for a good two minutes before continuing. "And I have reason to believe he needs you two more then me actually. So, consider this a favor." he looked up at me and Caleb.
"What do you mean, all magical beings? And why us?" I asked, then took a heathy swig from the bottle of champagne. I even gargled it like a mouth wash.
"Well, for what I have found out. Dragons come out every after about ten years to hunt. But it hasn't been ten years yet. So, as I rifled for more information, I came to find out the dragons and the vampires are in an alliance," he paused and looked at me.
"What?" both me and Caleb gasped.
"Yes, and you bastards have the vampires written all over your faces. So, this is more of your problem than mine. You need to fix this or the whole world will know about magical beings."
"And why are the dragons only feeding on magical beings again? Are they not feeding on humans as well?" I asked.
"We seem to have a lot of energy. It also feeds on humans, but their energy is too inferior, man," he said, and withdraw a cigar.
"So, what do you want from us? You can go now. We appreciate you for informing us. But we don't need to pretend we are friends. Jackson, you can drop him off at that corner," Caleb pointed at a corner about ten feet from my car.
"You are the only powerful beings I know. So, if it means collaborating with you two to stay alive, I will do it," he sighed and went on. "The dragons killed my team. I need you two to stay alive. At least you owe me that much for the tip," he argued.
"But what if we don't want to collaborate with you, boy wonder?" Caleb asked.
"You need my knowledge skills, so I know you are not that stupid to refuse my offer," he said with a smirk across his face.
I badly wanted to decline his offer, but he was right, we need him if we wanted to defeat the freaking dragon or dragons. He was very good with books, so we needed the bastard.
According to him they are in an alliance with the vampires. But I just killed all of them by burning the realm of shadows. So, how the hell did they survive? Unless there were other vampires around. Or was the fire not strong enough? I need to find out how those bastards survived. Them working with the dragons is something I wouldn't want to be heaped up on me.
"But if we let you in, you have to follow our orders," Caleb said, emptying his wine bottle. The bastard also took the bottle.
After a few minutes, we reached Caleb's house. Then I noticed he was not leaving the car.
"Aren't you leaving? And take boy wonder with you," I said. "We will figure out what to do with the dragons tomorrow."
"There is no way I will sleep alone when there is a psychopath on the loose. And much less take him with me," he blurted.
"You know I'm right here, right?" Simon said.
"Shut up, boy wonder!" We scolded together.
"Man, you are a werewolf I don't know what you are scared of?" I spoke.
"He is a freaking dragon. Which means he can breathe out fire. I stand no chance fighting him alone, you idiot"
"Alright then we will go to my house," I said and drove off.
Halfway to my house I saw a BMW X5 lose its direction and hit a tree just a mile from me. Then my vision again became blurred. The dragon was nearby.
Before I could even think of what to do, a dragon appeared in front of my car. Smashing two cars as its massive feet landed on them. Then one head popped out of one car and rolled a few feet. Blood splashing everywhere some even stained my car. And I spotted cracks on the road.
I moved my car to the other side and hit the brakes.
The dragon was as twice as my car. With black scales that seemed to glow by the moon. Long tail with a pointy end and moving about the place. It also had two long horns on top of its massive head and tiny ones that went from its head to the tip of its tail. Bat like wings that could cover thrice my car. And red eyes, which meant it was a fire dragon.
Dragons also came in different ranges, and the color of their eyes determined what kind of dragon it was. They were water dragons, fire like the bastard in front of my car, and nature dragons. Maybe there were some that I had no knowledge of. But I might end up finding out due to these bastards ruining my time and exposing all of us to the human world just like that.
My anger bubbled up inside like someone had just pulled acid inside me. The bastard will pay then I will kill the vampires who sent him.
Everyone got out of their cars and began running. I pivoted my car and drove into the woods where no one would see us—in hopes that only he or she would see and follow us.
I drove as fast as I could, dogging as many trees. But just as I zigged the other, I hit into the other tree, the bonnet popping up and my head hit the steering wheel so hard I think I might have damaged my meninges.
I looked from Caleb to Simon and they seemed to be okay. I was the only one stupid enough not to wear a seatbelt.
I gestured and we got out of the car and began running. Before we could go any further, I saw a man running towards us and I presumed he was the dragon because he also didn't have any clothes on.
My chest relaxed to the prospect that no one has to see us fight him and they will have nothing to use to tie us to him. Hopefully.
"Guys, if we don't finish this right now, then we won't be at peace," I said, panting.
We stopped running and allowed the dragon to catch up to us.
Caleb and Simon tapped their werewolf powers. I heard their bones popping, breaking and reforming again, but I didn't dare look. I made that mistake once with Caleb and I promised myself to never see any shapeshifter, transform again.
The man reached us and stopped a few feet from us. He was a tall dude with a lot of beards, but he trimmed it very well. So, it looked dashing all together.
"You finally stopped running like cowards," the man spoke.
"What do you want," I shouted as if I didn't know his motives just to buy myself some time for my powers to come to full extent.
"Didn't your friend tell you?" He looked at Simon.
Just as I sensed my powers were ready to strike, I waved a hand and the dragon was hoovering in the air. But before I could do what, I was planning, he transformed back into his dragon form and the bastard was so heavy I failed to control his body.
He stretched his now big head with teeth sharp enough to rip me in half without difficult and breathed out fire, but I quickly made a protective shield. I looked from Caleb, then Simon and began moving forward.
He didn't stop breathing fire, and the shield was losing its powers.
"Dammit," I cursed.
But what was the vampires' motives in all this? I knew they wanted to freeze earth, but why be in an alliance with the dragons? And why allow them to kill people if they knew I was just going to find out about their plan? Or was it their plan that I found out about everything? Then it hit me. I was overlooking things. Those bastards needed a bunch of heads to make their plan complete. But why the magical being when they can just kidnap a few humans without my knowledge? They were planning something big and I don't think it's because of what Simon said concerning us having more power.
I nodded at Caleb and Simon, then they jumped and knocked the dragon to the ground. I gave my hand a casual flick, and a blue glowing rope erupted from thin air and wrapped itself around the dragon, pinning its wings to its body.
Caleb and Simon began punching the man, and I saw black blood coming out of the dragon's mouth.
I held up my hand and lifted the dragon, then threw him, sending the bastard slamming the trees. He grunted upon impact with the ground.
Before Caleb and Simon could reach him, the damn dragon burned the rope with his fire then he clapped his wings and Caleb and Simon came cartwheeling towards me. I held up my hand, and they stopped, hanging in the air before they knocked me to my butt.
Before any of us could do anything, he clapped his wings again, and we went sprawling and finally hit the ground. He then extended its legs to grab me and Simon, but I managed to move aside. Simon wasn't that lucky.
Waved my hand, but that didn't work on the dragon somehow. I gave my hand another casual flick and a cracking jet of lightning left thin air and went flying towards the dragon. It hit the dragons' tail, but that didn't work either.
I turned to look at Caleb and he just stood there, looking as lost as ever. At this point it was beyond his capacity to do anything. He was a damn werewolf and anything above the ground was beyond his pay grade.
Before I cloud think of what to try next, I saw as the dragon began ripping Simon's head off. Flesh ripping away from the neck as the poor man screamed on top of his lungs. Gave my hand another casual flick, and it hit the dragon. This time he let go of Simon and went flying away into the trees.
Simon's body finally hit the ground with a thump. The man was dead. Just like that. His head was about five feet away from his body, blood still dripping. I looked down as I realized my eyes were getting watery.
I head noise behind and as I turned I saw Caleb uppercut the damn dragon. How he came back from where he went flying to I didn't even care. The only thing I cared was make sure he was gone. Dead for what he did.
I wasn't friends with Simon, but he shouldn't have died the way he did.
As he went flying in the air, I quickly waved my hand and blue lightning came from all directions and struck the dragon.
He growled upon impact with the ground. Caleb ran, then kicked the bastard in the stomach.
Waved my hand and rings about twenty feet high appeared around the dragon. Then after a few tries to escape my rings, he gave up and turned back into a human.
As I walked to him, I could see my hands were shaking. Did I care for Simon that much? Or was I just scared about what I was from seeing? I knew I shouldn't have left the house. I let out a breath and looked at him.
"So, tough guy, why are you killing for the vamps?" I asked, as casually as I could.
"Just know that all of you are going to die. Soon or later. Especially you and your friend," he smiled mercilessly.
"Let that be our problem. Now tell me about your alliance with the vampires. Because as far as I know you like to work alone. You don't like to be associated with others. So, why the sudden change?"
"Just know that sometimes we gotta do what we have to do in order to survive."
"Elaborate."
"Just know you are going to pay for burning the realm of shadows."
"And I think I'm gonna pay for killing you."
Before he realized what I meant, I held up my hand and squeezed him hard enough to break his neck bones within a second.
Before he could let go of his life, he held up his hand and gave me a hand rude gesture.
"Well, aren't we all screwed," I said, and let him go.
I turned to Caleb and he was covered in blood and sweat. He didn't say anything, but I knew I didn't like what I did. What could I have done? Keep him prisoner? No can do.
He was not telling me anything. But somehow, he was telling me something. You gotta do what you have to do in order to survive. Were the vampires threatening him? But with what? He was a freaking dragon and could easily burn those white-faced bastards to ashes in a second. What were the vampires using to make him work for them? They must have been using something to make a goddamned freaking dragon work for them.
Or was he also in it all?
