Stella's eyebrows rose slightly. Her smile didn't fade, but it thinned, turning into an expression that waited expectantly.
"Why?" she asked in a calm yet firm voice. "You do realize what an incredible opportunity this is, don't you?"
Evelyn looked away instinctively.
Stop insisting already, what's the point, she was thinking.
She had no idea how to reject her in the first place, and deep down she actually wanted to take this opportunity — but of course, she couldn't possibly do that.
"I know. Your offer truly flatters me. But I still can't accept it."
This time, Stella leaned in slightly. Her tone held a warmth that tried to persuade without turning into pressure.
