Chapter 9 - The Choice

The feast was in a festive environment. Some were dancing with joy, while others were singing. It was a completely different world from the outside. As Knight took the lead in bringing Kealan and old man Robu inside, people at the feast started to notice them but quickly ignored the newcomers, as they were completely immersed in the celebration.

Knight first brought them to a table close to the crib where Amoris was sleeping. Then, he said to Lydia quietly, "Would you have Cobal and Leif prepare some snacks and ale while I entertain Uncle Kealan and Sir Robu?"

Hearing this, Lydia went to inform Cobal and Leif. After they were seated at the table, Uncle Kealan glanced around the feast and said, "You sure spent a lot of money on this feast."

Knight had heard that from many people today, but after hearing it from Uncle Kealan, it felt different. So, Knight said, "You know how it is, Uncle Kealan. The villagers helped us a lot in the past, and we are thinking of moving to the city. We don't know if we will ever be able to repay them, so we thought this feast would let everyone enjoy themselves, as we don't have much entertainment here."

Uncle Kealan knew the villagers had helped Knight's family during their struggles, so he didn't say anything more about the feast, as that would be interfering with what Knight had prepared. Instead, he led the conversation towards Robu and said, "What do you think of our village's feast? Surely you will enjoy it."

Old man Robu, hearing Kealan, said, "Though I have enjoyed many grand feasts during my missions, it feels different here. The people here are simple and know how to enjoy themselves with simple things. It feels like home." Robu felt the environment was similar to when he had traveled with Makarov and others—a simple environment, but the feelings were true and joyous.

Robu was lamenting about how time had passed so quickly and how his friends were starting to be busy with their own work. Though he also had his own work, he didn't think that the time they had spent together would ever come back. Just as he was thinking about these things, Lydia arrived with snacks and ale.

Setting them on the table, Lydia said to Kealan and Robu with a smile, "Uncle Kealan, Sir Robu, please enjoy. We don't have many expensive things here, so please don't mind."

Uncle Kealan said with a smile, "Hey, don't worry. Robu isn't that type of person." Robu had been thinking of the times he'd spent with Makarov and the others, but his thoughts were interrupted by Lydia and Kealan's conversation. "Don't worry," he said. "Back in the day, when I was on missions, I ate even harsher food and enjoyed it."

Lydia and Knight, hearing what Uncle Kealan and Sir Robu said, were quite happy. As Uncle Kealan and Sir Robu started to drink, eat, and chat, Knight thought the time was right. He started the conversation by saying, "Sir Robu, I was thinking... Uncle Kealan has probably told you that we want to move to a city with a trustworthy guild. As you are a mage, you must have many dealings and connections with various guilds. If you know of any suitable city, please tell us. It would be a huge help."

Hearing Knight, Robu stopped what he was doing and said, "Yeah, Kealan has told me that you two were preparing to move to a city. I will be frank with you. If you are only thinking of moving to a safe place, then the city of Era would be the right choice for you. That is where the headquarters of the Magic Council is. In terms of safety, Era is quite good, and since it's the headquarters, many rich people live there. However, things there are very expensive."

Letting Knight and Lydia digest the news for a while, Robu continued, "If you're thinking about a place with a trustworthy guild and friendly mages, then it would be Magnolia, the home of the Fairy Tail guild. The Fairy Tail guild, while small, is very trustworthy. I am friends with their guild master, who is extremely reliable. I would even say he is one of the most trustworthy mages in Ishgar today. He is also one of the Ten Saint Mages of Ishgar, so in terms of safety, Magnolia would be perfect for you."

At last, Robu said while showing a symbol on his lower back, "If this assures you, then know that I was a Fairy Tail guild member. I was getting old, so I separated from the guild, as going on missions isn't for me at this age."

The symbol on Robu's back was a black tattoo. The design was quite simple, but if they were to describe it, it resembled a bird with its wings spread open, ready to fly—though that wouldn't be a truly accurate description. If they were to interpret it based on the guild's name, it was a small, palm-sized fairy with its wings unfurled and its two legs captured mid-stride, as if running with a mischievous and playful energy that seemed to radiate a joyous giggle.

Seeing the symbol, Knight and Lydia fell into deep thought, comparing the pros and cons of both the city of Era and the city of Magnolia. Both cities were on par in terms of safety, so they had to compare other factors. With the city of Era being too expensive for them, and with Robu being a former member of the Fairy Tail guild, they were already leaning toward Magnolia. There, they could have the mages of the Fairy Tail guild examine their son to see if there was any problem—that was what Knight thought. Furthermore, Magnolia was not too expensive, so they could make do with what they had while searching for work. So, even though they were comparing, they already had an answer in their hearts.

Even so, they had to discuss it with one another, as they couldn't decide unilaterally; this was a major decision. So, Knight snapped out of his thoughts and said with gratitude in his eyes, "Thank you for the advice, Sir Robu. Your guidance has really made things clear for us."

Lydia also said, "Yeah, your advice helped us see what choices we have."

Robu, seeing the couple thanking him with such sincerity, waved his hand and said, "I only gave you the information. What you do is your choice. Don't make a final decision without thinking it over for a while."

As they were about to continue their words of gratitude, Uncle Kealan, seeing this, said, "Don't you have a ceremony to prepare? It's getting late. Why don't you continue your thanking tomorrow? Robu will be staying at my house for the night."

Hearing about the ceremony and seeing that it was fully dark outside, both Knight and Lydia decided to continue speaking with Sir Robu tomorrow. The ceremony had to be held quickly, as it was getting late for the villagers, too.

"Uncle Kealan, Sir Robu, please just sit for a while. We will prepare for the ceremony quickly," said Lydia. Knight also nodded along, as he was already thinking about the where, what, and how of the ceremony.

Uncle Kealan said while drinking ale from his glass, "Take your time. We will just enjoy the food and drinks here." Sir Robu also nodded in agreement as he picked up a piece of cooked meat.

As Knight and Lydia were preparing for the ceremony, the dancing and singing gradually came to a stop. People helped set the items for the ceremony while Lydia went to Amoris, who was wondering about the use of his talent.

Picking Amoris up in her arms and dressing him fully in multiple layers to ward off the night's chill, she brought him to the place where the ceremony was being held. Knight and the other helpers laid a soft blanket on the ground, and Lydia placed Amoris gently on it.

Amoris could be seen glancing around at the crowd of people. The feeling of a group so much larger than him, all surrounding him, was very intimidating. As his eyes scanned the faces, he spotted an old man with white hair, a white beard, and distinctive eyebrows. A strange feeling flickered within him—a sense that he had seen this old man somewhere before.

However, for Robu, it was a different story entirely. The sheer amount of mana radiating from Amoris's body stunned him. While he had prepared a magical item to test if the baby had any magical energy, he had never imagined Amoris would possess such an immense amount.

For the non-mage people, this radiating energy felt like nothing, but for a mage like Robu, it was as unmistakable as a bonfire in the dark.

As Robu was reeling from his discovery, Amoris had finally figured out who the old man was. He had seen him in an anime he watched in his previous life! The old man's figure was identical to the one from the show. It was the anime where the power of friendship was supreme and destroying a mountain in a fight was a common occurrence.

It was Fairy Tail.

The old man was Robu, A member of Fairy Tail.
