Chapter 3 - Chapter — The Human Project

They were trying to create a walking, moving human.

Strange idea, but that's how he was.

Rishi looked at him curiously and thought,

"He looks almost my age… hmm, no problem if I say that he's working on some kind of science project."

Then Rishi turned to the driver uncle and said,

"Uncle, I'll drop him home."

Driver uncle replied,

"What about your college then?"

Before Rishi could answer, Laxmi said,

"Uncle, let my brother drop him, otherwise Papa will find out that we didn't help his friend's son. Family comes first, right, Uncle?"

Uncle sighed. "Alright, but how will you go, Rishi?"

Rishi smiled. "Uncle, I'll take a taxi from here."

"Fine," uncle said, "I'll get you both a taxi then. This boy who wants to become human can go with you."

He helped them get into the taxi.

Chen, who had been standing nearby, frowned.

"Something's not right. They're hiding something… I need to find out."

He said, "Uncle, I'll go help them too."

But Laxmi interrupted quickly,

"No need, Chen. We'll manage. Besides, that boy is our dad's friend's son."

She looked at him sharply.

"Your dad already warned you not to hang around us, remember? Go to your college, or I'll have to tell him myself that you keep coming to see us. And don't you dare say I complained later."

Chen went silent.

He thought, "Better not say anything now… I'll find out later — maybe even hire a detective if I have to."

Meanwhile, Laxmi and Rishi took the taxi home.

The school bus left for school again.

[Scene shifts – Rishi's father's office]

Rishi's dad had already reached his office.

Inside the office, Krishna was working when suddenly the boss's daughter, May, appeared.

She crossed her arms and smirked.

"So, you finally showed up. You still have a chance. Listen to me, and I can save you from my father."

Krishna replied calmly,

"There's no need for that. After all, you're the one who trapped me here."

May smiled coldly.

"Oh, really? Let's see how you get out of this place then."

[Scene shifts – Rishi's home]

The taxi arrived. Rishi and Laxmi stepped out, helping the unconscious boy into their house.

Inside Rishi's room, he sighed in relief.

"Good thing Mom went to work early today."

Laxmi nodded. "Yeah, otherwise we'd be in big trouble."

Rishi looked at the boy.

"But how will he even wake up? What if his battery's dead or something? Should we plug him in?"

Laxmi glared.

"Are you crazy? He's got human skin! It's not like we can peel it off and stick it back with tape! Maybe we should—"

Before she could finish, their mom entered the house.

"Who's there?" she called out.

She thought her husband had returned home early.

Laxmi and Rishi panicked and quickly hid the boy under the bed.

Laxmi called out, "It's us, Mom!"

Mom entered, taking off her shoes.

"You two didn't go to college today?"

Laxmi stammered,

"Uh, Mom, brother wasn't feeling well, so we came back home."

Mom frowned. "Oh really? What happened, Rishi?"

Rishi said nervously, "I think I have a fever."

Mom checked with a thermometer. "No fever at all. Tell me the truth — you didn't get into another fight with Chen, did you?"

Laxmi thought, "Great… he can't even lie properly."

Before Mom could continue scolding them, her purse fell to the floor.

She bent down to pick it up, but Laxmi rushed and handed it to her quickly.

"Here, Mom," she said.

But as Mom reached for it, she noticed something — a hand under the bed.

"What's that?" she asked sharply.

Rishi blurted out, "Uh—it's my stuffed toy, Mom! Sorry, it looks kind of real."

Mom frowned. "That toy's… really heavy though."

She bent down and tried to pull it out — but it was much heavier than expected.

Laxmi and Rishi froze.

We're dead now…

Mom managed to pull the boy out — and then she froze completely, eyes wide in shock.

She whispered,

"Where… did you find him?"

For the first time, her face turned serious — almost scared.

Rishi tried to say something, but Laxmi asked first,

"What's wrong, Mom? Do you… know him?"

"Who is he? Where did he come from? Is he even human?"

She kept asking — because she had never seen her mother so pale, so shaken.

Then finally, their mother said — her voice trembling —

"He… he's your father."

The room fell silent. No one moved. Even the ticking clock seemed to stop.

After a long pause, Laxmi spoke softly,

"No, Mom… that's not true, right? Dad was human… wasn't he?"
