I kept Lucia's visit under wraps. When my team spotted the band-aid on my neck the following day, I simply told them I'd nicked myself while moving furniture.
I arrived at the office a bit behind schedule, still processing the bombshell Lucia had dropped on me the night before.
The moment I stepped through the door, I found Jill holding court in the center of our workspace, basking in the team's admiring comments.
"Jill, you're amazing. Elana actually noticed you," one colleague gushed.
"That's Elana we're talking about! Industry heavyweights can't even score a meeting with her, and she's showing you special attention," another chimed in.
"Word is Elana wants you as her final apprentice. Any truth to that?" someone asked.
I'd witnessed this kind of spectacle countless times before. Elana's name caught my attention briefly, but I didn't dwell on it.
