After that nightmare at St. Chaim Reform Academy, I'm basically living in a bubble of bodyguards. They're everywhere—the ones I can see and the ones lurking in shadows. Even my car's under lockdown.
Lucia's got skills, sure. She's Kane's right hand for a reason. But sneaking into my ride with all this security? Nearly impossible.
The only reason she managed it was because I let her.

Her parents dumped her in the snow under some tree when she was just a baby—apparently, they wanted a boy instead. Clare from the orphanage found her there, half-frozen, and gave her a name.
All those years at the orphanage, Clare was the one taking care of her. Even after the place shut down, Clare dragged Lucia from city to city, raising her like her own kid.
They weren't just sisters.
