Finn watched in terror as the creature set its sights on him. Finn couldn't help but flinch in front of its gaze. The creature gave off an otherworldly presence, unlike what Finn felt when he stared at a beast or person, the presence felt wrong.
In a moment, the creature was charging at him. Finn wouldn't have long before it reached him, in which case he would be defenseless. Sprinting as fast as he could, seemingly faster than what a human would be capable of, Finn ran through the debris, using the collapsed buildings to hide, however no matter how far he ran, the creature would always find him, creeping behind him slowly.
Judging that it would be impossible to run away, Finn found a corner where he could wait to ambush the creature. Finn wasn't planning on fighting the strange entity with his hands, rather, he was going to wield his bow. Though he doubted that it would kill it, perhaps it would slow it down. After positioning himself with his bow, Finn focused just like when he was hunting, only his bow could be seen trembling, he did everything he could to calm the tremors, stealing his resolve.
Finally, the creature came past the corner, greedily pursing its prey. At this moment, Finn released his arrow. The moment the arrow left the quiver, he ran, not looking back. The arrow had struck the creature in the center of its apparent head.
The creature let out a distorted roar, surprised by the strength of the sudden attack, however Finn refused to look back, only focusing on escaping.
Where could he even go? He would have to try his luck if the forest, but what about his uncle, he couldn't just leave him behind. As these thoughts were running wild, he notices that the roaring had stopped, thinking that the beast had died, he felt great relief, despite this he didn't turn back, what if it was just a trick.
Finn's thought turned out to be more than just baseless worry, as the creature had started to convulse. In a horrific sight, the creatures' eyes, which had been sown shut, opened, however what laid in its sockets weren't eyes, it looked as if worms had gathered, wriggling around aimlessly.
Once its eyes were opened, it seemed as if it had become more focused. Now it was moving towards Finn with more calculate movement.
While Finn couldn't see the creature, he could feel it's presence not far behind. Aware of this fact, he headed to the blacksmith, hoping that there would be close range weapon to defend himself with.
After what seemed like hours, but was only seconds, Finn arrived at the blacksmith. The store was outdoor, so he was able to recognize the weapons instantly upon arriving. The primary weapons that the blacksmith worked on were bows and spears, since they could be thrown and serve as defense.
Picking up an especially well-crafted spear, Finn spun around, planting his feet. Raising his spear he stared at the abomination. It stopped, unlike before, it was on guard, it had been harmed, now facing a potential threat.
Neither of them moved, locked in a stale mate. The creature was the first to break this deadlock, whipping its head forward as if to mimic the actions of a snake. Finn stood his ground, rather than fleeing he stepped forward thrusting the spear with superhuman speeds. The spear proved to be too slow as the monster predicted its movement slightly moving its head crashing into Finn.
Thankfully the spear was able to put the creature into a situation that was impossible for it to bite him. Finn had enough sense not to let go of his spear, even though it felt as multiple bones had been broken.
Finn forced himself back to his feet, biting back the pain, if he collapsed, he wouldn't get back up. He looked at the creature that seemed more aggressing as it eyeing him down hungrily.
Both of them were ready to continue their fight, however Finn was shocked to witness a rock bounce off the side of the creature's head.
In the distance Finn could see his uncle, who was wearing a panicked expression Finn had never seen of him before. Before Finn could react, the creature pounce at his uncle. Unlike Finn his uncle did not have an unusual physique, nor did he have a weapon to defined himself. Finn sprinted after the creature, hopping to save his uncle.
His efforts were in vain, as he wasn't fast enough to get the snake like creature's attention before it leaped on his uncle.
Fin could only let out a scream, watching the horrific scene of the creature devouring his uncle. Finn new that he didn't have any time to grieve as the creature was now looking back at him, after quickly digesting his body. It looked as though another face was added to the creature. This only added more fuel to the fire burning if Finn's heart.
Rather than striking the creature as soon as he could, he waited. He waited until the creature had burst forward, putting every thought of hesitation to the back of his mind, Finn struck the roof of the creature's mouth, through what he though was its head.
Finn was pushed several meters during the creature's assault; however, it had not been in vain as the creature looked to be on its last breath, looking at Finn with a blank expression, it looked as though the creature was incapable of hatred, even in its own death.
Finn was no longer able to stand, falling on his back as his adrenaline had finally halted, forcing him to collapse. He knew he was dead, but now at least he could die knowing that he avenged his village and his uncle. Still hoping his sister had escaped, he let out a prayer to Vikor.
'Please let my sister have escaped and found safety, please act as her guide and watch over her.'
With that, Finn closed his eyes, accepting his fate. Just as he was about to lose consciousness, he felt a hand embrace his cheek. Opening his eyes in surprise, Finn was puzzled to find a bright blue aura. That aura wriggled and transformed into his uncle and the rest of the villagers. What stunned Finn the most was his sister, who was standing next to his uncle. Finn let teers fall from his eyes, no longer able to keep the grief away.
He watched as they all ascended into the sky, with warm smiles on their faces, before dissipating into the air.
For the first time since his parents passing, Finn felt truly alone. Finn was so lost in his own despair that he failed to notice the woman who was standing a few feet behind him.
It wasn't until a few moments passed that she spoke up.
"Were you the only survivor?"
The woman spoke in a blunt but caring tone. Shocked Finn looked back, straining his body to the point of him passing out.
"Guess that curse took a lot out of ya, it's okay rest now, you'll need strength for what comes next."
Those were the last words Finn hear before losing consciousness.
