I stood in front of my wardrobe with my hands on my hips.
It was empty.
Okay… not empty.
Just… empty enough for a family function hosted by people whose flower vases probably cost more than my yearly grocery bill.
I sighed dramatically.
"Seriously?"
Behind me, Katie didn't even bother looking up from her phone.
"I told you to buy a dress."
"I told you I couldn't afford one."
"You also spent thirty dollars on imported vanilla beans."
"They were on sale."
"They were still thirty dollars."
"Worth it."
She looked at me with a blank face.
"You have issues."
"I have priorities."
Before I could continue defending myself, the doorbell rang.
"Ding dong."
Katie frowned.
"You expecting someone?"
"No."
Tessa walked toward the door.
"I'll get it."
I returned to staring hopelessly into my wardrobe.
Maybe I could wear my blue dress.
No…
Too simple.
The black one?
Too formal.
The green one?
Absolutely not.
That dress and I had unresolved issues.
"Emma!"
