Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: The World After Five Years

Five years.

That was enough time for an empire to lose its power, for a new nation to rise from nothing, or for an idea to challenge the foundations of an entire world.

Over the past five years, the shinobi world had witnessed numerous changes. Old alliances had weakened, nations had searched for new ways to expand their economic and military strength, and political leaders had drawn their own conclusions from the events that had once shaken the entire world.

Yet, among all these changes, one development had emerged that few could have imagined just a handful of years ago.

A new city-state had risen within the Land of Snow.

Shivpuri.

News of its establishment had gradually spread across the world. Initially, it had been regarded as little more than a new commercial center in the snowy nation. However, as time passed, reports coming from Shivpuri began to challenge that assumption. Its technology, transportation systems, non-combat applications of chakra, and rapidly growing economy had attracted the attention of merchants, scholars, and political advisers from numerous countries.

Devices with applications far beyond warfare were being developed there. Chakra was being utilized in medicine, construction, transportation, and various industrial processes. Its institutions welcomed specialists from other nations, while its manufactured products gradually found their way into markets across the world.

Within just a few years, Shivpuri had become a power that no nation could easily afford to ignore.

But its prosperity was not its greatest mystery.

Who was its founder?

Shivpuri's representatives maintained diplomatic and commercial relations with other nations, yet the identity of its true founder had never been revealed publicly. Numerous theories circulated about the mysterious individual. Some believed the founder was an immensely wealthy merchant, others suspected an heir to an ancient family from the Land of Snow, while a few speculated that an organization of scientists and specialists from several countries stood behind the city's remarkable development.

Nobody possessed conclusive evidence.

The world was beginning to understand Shivpuri, but it still knew nothing about the person who had created it.

And now, five years later, that mystery was about to receive its first opportunity to stand before the world.

---

In the Land of Fire, Konoha had organized the grandest Chunin Exams in its history.

The village's main streets were decorated with colorful banners and elaborate lights. Foreign merchants and visitors crowded the markets, while security around the examination grounds had been tightened considerably. An atmosphere of celebration filled the village, but the significance of the event extended far beyond testing the abilities of young shinobi.

Konoha was attempting to reclaim its international prestige.

Danzo's downfall, the dissolution of Root, the Uchiha clan's departure from the village, and Naruto's subsequent disappearance had dealt a severe blow to Konoha's political standing. Five years had passed. The village had stabilized its administration, begun moving forward under new leadership, and made numerous efforts to restore its former reputation.

Nevertheless, in the eyes of the world, Konoha was no longer what it had once been.

This year's Chunin Exams were also an international diplomatic gathering. The presence of representatives from the four great shinobi villages had elevated the event's importance considerably. Their arrival gave Konoha an opportunity to demonstrate its strength and stability, but it also placed the village under the scrutiny of nations that had spent the past five years studying the changes within its borders.

Tsunade stood on the upper balcony of the Hokage Tower, looking down at the decorated village. Kakashi stood behind her, accompanied by Shikaku Nara.

"The delegations from all four great shinobi villages have arrived," Shikaku reported, closing the documents in his hands. "Their security arrangements are complete. So far, we haven't encountered any significant problems."

"So far," Tsunade repeated. "Those two words never reassure me when they come from you."

A faint smile appeared on Shikaku's face. "My job isn't to reassure you. It's to warn you about potential problems before they become disasters."

"And my job is to run the village despite your warnings."

Kakashi glanced at the two of them but chose not to interrupt. Instead, he turned his attention toward the village's main entrance.

Tsunade followed his gaze.

"At least all four villages accepted our invitation. Restoring our international relations to this level hasn't been easy over the past few years."

"Accepting an invitation and trusting us are two different things," Shikaku replied calmly. "Every village acts in its own interests. Some have come to improve diplomatic relations, others to assess our current condition, and some may simply want to understand how much Konoha has changed since Danzo and Root fell."

Tsunade turned toward him.

"You think they've come here merely to observe us?"

"I didn't say that. I'm simply pointing out that we shouldn't assume every guest has our interests at heart."

"That much is obvious," Tsunade replied. "As long as they're our guests, we'll treat them with respect. That doesn't mean we'll close our eyes."

Each of the four Kage had their own reasons for attending the event. Their public objectives concerned diplomacy and the Chunin Exams, but their actual intentions could not be determined from formal speeches and polite smiles alone.

For some, Konoha's current condition represented an opportunity. For others, it was a potential threat. There were also leaders who viewed the growing influence of an ideology that encouraged people to question established beliefs and authority with increasing concern.

To them, this was more than a difference of opinion.

If people began questioning the true purpose of power, the justification behind orders, and whether survival truly required obedience to established systems, then the authority of those who maintained those systems would inevitably face scrutiny.

And some leaders considered such questions a threat to their rule.

For the moment, however, no open confrontation had emerged within Konoha.

Shikaku glanced at his documents again.

"There's still one delegation that hasn't arrived."

Tsunade already knew whom he meant.

"Shivpuri."

"Yes."

Silence settled between them for a few moments.

Tsunade looked toward the distant horizon. "Do you think its founder will come in person?"

"That depends on what he wants from this event," Shikaku replied. "If his objective is simply to establish diplomatic relations, a senior representative would be sufficient. But if he intends to demonstrate something to the world, he won't find many better stages than the Chunin Exams."

Kakashi closed his visible eye for a moment.

"And if he wants to keep his identity hidden, we may only meet one of his representatives."

"That is also possible," Shikaku acknowledged.

Tsunade said nothing more.

The information available about Shivpuri raised almost as many questions as it answered. The fact that a new city-state had become so prosperous and technologically advanced in such a short time was extraordinary in itself. Yet the continued secrecy surrounding its founder made the entire situation even more mysterious.

At that moment, a deep rumbling sound echoed across the sky.

Initially, it was faint enough to blend into the noise of the festivities. Within moments, however, its intensity began to increase. An enormous chakra presence spread through the air. Flocks of birds flying above the village abruptly changed direction, while pedestrians stopped in the streets and turned their eyes toward the sky.

The three figures on the Hokage Tower balcony looked upward.

A massive white-and-gold structure emerged from between the clouds.

Its design resembled an enormous lotus flower. Metallic petals folded into one another in an intricate arrangement, while delicate chakra markings engraved across its surface shimmered in the sunlight. Streams of pale blue energy flowed from its underside, keeping the enormous craft suspended in the air.

It slowly descended toward Konoha.

Within moments, its immense silhouette had captured the attention of everyone nearby. Several shinobi activated their sensory abilities. ANBU members increased their vigilance at designated positions, while security personnel accompanying the foreign delegations began assessing the unfamiliar transportation device.

"What kind of technology is that?" Kakashi murmured.

Shikaku's eyes remained fixed on the craft. Its construction and energy flow made it clear that this was far more sophisticated than an ordinary aircraft.

"If this is Shivpuri's means of transportation," he said, "then we have considerably more questions to ask about it."

The craft moved directly toward the enormous platform prepared for the arrival of foreign delegations. The streams of blue energy beneath it gradually dimmed as it descended with remarkable precision.

Finally, it settled onto the platform.

The deep rumbling faded.

Conversations throughout the surrounding area fell almost completely silent.

The four Kage had also emerged to observe the arrival. Their advisers and security personnel studied the craft carefully. Nobody knew who was inside, but its technology had already demonstrated that underestimating Shivpuri's capabilities would be a mistake.

Then the enormous metallic petals began opening one after another.

Sections of white and golden metal separated in a precise sequence. A wide staircase unfolded from within, extending from the craft's entrance down to the platform.

For several moments, nobody emerged.

Then the first figure appeared.

Black hair, a serious face, and calm eyes.

Itachi Uchiha.

The moment he stepped outside, the attention of several Konoha shinobi snapped toward him. He had been missing for five years. No reliable information had ever emerged about his whereabouts, and now he stood before them as part of Shivpuri's delegation.

Another familiar figure appeared behind him.

Shisui Uchiha.

He, too, was alive, making his first public appearance after years of disappearance. Both men descended the staircase without attempting to draw attention to themselves or display their presence.

Tsunade's eyes narrowed.

"Itachi... Shisui..."

Kakashi spoke quietly. "Neither of them has been seen for five years. And now they're here with Shivpuri."

Shikaku studied them for several moments. "They must have had reasons for keeping their activities hidden. But for now, all we know is that they're alive and they've come here."

Itachi and Shisui reached the platform and moved to one side, as though making room for someone else.

A short, black-haired boy emerged next.

He wore clothing appropriate for a medical shinobi. A pouch containing medical instruments was secured at his waist, and he carried a small bag of treatment supplies. He calmly surveyed his surroundings. There was no attempt to display the demeanor of a warrior or project an image of military strength.

He was a medic, and his appearance reflected that identity.

Sasuke Uchiha.

His presence raised another question for those who had been following the Uchiha clan's movements. He, too, had been away from Konoha for five years, and now he had appeared alongside Shivpuri's delegation.

After him, a red-haired woman appeared on the staircase.

Her eyes shone with life, her expression was resolute, and her presence possessed an energy that naturally drew attention even amid a large crowd.

Kushina Uzumaki.

Disbelief spread across several faces as she appeared.

But she, too, seemed to be waiting for someone.

Kushina descended the staircase and stopped beside Itachi and Shisui. All four stood to one side of the platform, leaving the staircase clear.

One final figure remained at the top.

He wore a long white-and-gold cloak, its edges decorated with intricate golden embroidery. A red Uzumaki spiral was emblazoned across his back. Sunlight caught his blond hair, while his blue eyes calmly surveyed the people waiting below.

He was a boy no older than twelve or thirteen.

Without the slightest hint of haste, he began descending the staircase.

There was no triumphant arrogance in his steps, nor the artificial solemnity of a ruler attempting to impress an audience. He appeared completely at ease, as though this were merely the end of an ordinary journey rather than an extraordinary entrance before the leaders of the shinobi world.

But to those waiting below, nothing about the moment was ordinary.

Tsunade's eyes widened.

Kakashi stared at the boy for several moments. Shikaku's expression grew unusually serious, the look of a strategist watching an unsolved puzzle suddenly come to life before his eyes.

They all recognized that face.

Five years earlier, this very child had challenged Konoha's established order before leaving the village. He had encouraged people to ask questions, examine their assumptions, and reconsider the meaning of strength. After his departure, he had vanished from the world's attention. No reliable information had emerged about his whereabouts, activities, or future plans.

Now that same child stood before them as the founder of an independent nation.

Naruto Uzumaki.

He stepped onto the final stair and stopped on the platform. His gaze rested briefly on Tsunade before moving toward Kakashi and Shikaku. A faint smile appeared on his face.

"So..." he said casually, "are we late? Have the Chunin Exams started yet?"

Nobody answered immediately.

Tsunade continued staring at him. The boy standing before her was no longer the seven-year-old child she had once known. Where had he spent the past five years? How had he established Shivpuri? Where had he acquired such advanced technology, resources, and allies? And how had he kept his identity hidden from the world for so long?

The most important question was why he had chosen to reveal himself now.

The four Kage were watching Naruto as well. Before them stood a person whose ideology had become a challenge to their political interests. Yet none of them revealed their true intentions.

Naruto glanced at them before casually returning his attention to Tsunade. He wasn't challenging anyone. He made no attempt to demonstrate his strength.

He had simply arrived.

And that was precisely what made the situation so unsettling.

For five years, the world had speculated about the mysterious figure behind Shivpuri. Now he stood before them. His achievements were visible, his companions stood beside him, and the enormous craft behind him was proof of the system he had built.

Yet nobody knew the true story of his journey.

Five years earlier, Naruto had left Konoha in search of a future the world had not yet imagined.

Today, he stood before that very world.

And the world still had no idea what he had actually accomplished during those five years.
