Olivia flinched violently, a sharp gasp escaping her throat as she spun around.
Mathias stood right behind her on the grand marble balcony overlooking the sprawling royal estate gardens. His dark brows were pulled together in deep concern, his hand hovering near her shoulder as though terrified he might break her fragile frame if he pressed any harder. The intense, distant shadow lingering in her eyes sent a cold, sharp pang straight through his chest.
"What is it?" he asked softly, his voice laced with gentle, cautious worry. "Why are you looking at me like that? And why are you standing out here in the cold alone?"
