All Might and the Nomu's collision sent shockwaves across the USJ.
Rei ignored it. Let the Symbol of Peace handle the superweapon. He had other problems.
Twenty villains scattered across the plaza. Some regrouping. Some trying to reach students. Some just confused.
Rei webbed his broken ribs tight—makeshift splint, enough to function—and dropped into their midst.
A villain with a hammer Quirk swung at him. Rei caught the hammer mid-swing, yanked the man off balance, and delivered a knee to his face. One down.
Two more charged together. Rei fired webs at their feet, yanking them forward into each other. They collided and went down in a tangle. He webbed them to the floor.
"Behind you!" Momo's voice.
Rei's spider-sense had already warned him. He ducked under an energy blast, wall-ran up a nearby pillar, flipped over the shooter, and webbed his hands together. The villain's next blast hit himself. Down.
Four villains rushed him at once.
Rei's body moved on pure instinct. Block the first punch, redirect it into the second attacker. Web the third's face, yank him forward into a headbutt. Sweep the fourth's legs, web him to the ground before he could recover.
Eight seconds. Four down.
"Holy shit," Kaminari breathed from the sidelines. "Is he even human?"
"Shut up and help me!" Momo was creating a net launcher. "We can help from range!"
She fired. The net caught three villains trying to sneak around. Jirou's soundwave knocked them unconscious.
Rei gave Momo a quick nod—acknowledgment, approval—then kept moving.
A villain with a blade mutation slashed at him. Rei weaved around the strike, grabbed the blade arm, and used the villain's own momentum to flip him over. Web to the face. Down.
Behind him, All Might and the Nomu traded blows that shook the facility.
"SMASH!"
The impact was thunderous.
Rei felt the shockwave but didn't look. Couldn't afford distraction.
Three villains with projectile Quirks attacked from range. Rei's spider-sense tracked all three trajectories. He dodged left, right, flipped over the third, and fired webs at all three in rapid succession. Yanked them together into a pile, web them down.
A villain tried to tackle him from behind. Rei felt it coming, jumped straight up, wall-ran across the ceiling while the villain crashed into his ally. Double web-shot. Both stuck to the floor.
Rei dropped back down, surveyed the plaza.
Fifteen villains incapacitated. Five still active. Shigaraki and Kurogiri watching from the entrance.
All Might was pushing the Nomu back, but the creature regenerated every wound. The fight was stalemated.
'End the small threats first. Then assess.'
Rei charged the remaining five.
They saw him coming. Tried to coordinate.
Too slow.
Rei's fist took out the first before they could react. Web-yank pulled the second into a kick. The third tried to use a paralysis Quirk—Rei's spider-sense warned him, he dodged, webbed the villain's hands. Fourth went down from a spinning backhand. Fifth tried to run—web-line to the legs, pull, face-plant into concrete.
Silence.
Twenty villains down. Rei stood in the center of them, breathing hard, ribs screaming, but victorious.
The students stared in absolute shock.
Shigaraki's voice cut through.
"NO NO NO NO NO!" The man-child scratched his neck frantically. "This isn't how it's supposed to go! You're just students! You're supposed to be weak!"
All Might delivered another massive punch to the Nomu, sending it flying.
"This is over, villain!" All Might declared.
"You've lost!"
"Have we?" Shigaraki's voice turned dangerous.
He pointed at the students. At Rei specifically.
"Kurogiri, that one with the weird suit Kill him."
The black mist moved.
Rei's spider-sense exploded.
The mist formed around him, disorienting, pulling—
Web-shot. Rei fired blindly into the mist, felt it connect to something solid, yanked hard.
Kurogiri's physical form materialized—a small body at the center of the mist, vulnerable.
Rei's fist connected before the villain could react.
The mist dissipated.
Shigaraki stared. "You... you hit Kurogiri?"
"Obvious weak point," Rei said coldly. "The mist has to generate from somewhere. Find the source, hit the source."
"That's—" Shigaraki's voice cracked. "That's not fair! You're just a student! You don't get to—"
"THIS ENDS NOW!" All Might's voice boomed.
The Symbol of Peace stood, fist raised, smile still in place despite the exhaustion visible in his stance.
Shigaraki looked around. His army defeated. Kurogiri struggling to get up. The Nomu down. All Might still standing.
Complete failure.
"This..." Shigaraki scratched his neck until it bled. "This isn't over. Next time. Next time we'll—"
Kurogiri appeared beside him, Grabbed him. Pulled him through the portal, teleporting him.
"NO! I'M NOT DONE! I'M NOT—"
The portal closed.
Silence fell over the USJ.
All Might slumped slightly, his muscles deflating just a fraction but not that noticable.
The students slowly emerged from cover.
And Rei Mizuki stood in the center of twenty unconscious villains, mask lenses dimming, body screaming in pain but refusing to show it.
"Is everyone alright?" All Might called out, his voice still strong despite obvious exhaustion.
"We're okay!" Momo answered. "Mizuki protected us!"
All eyes turned to Rei.
He felt their stares. The shock. The questions forming.
'Said too much. Showed too much. Changed too much.'
But he'd kept them alive.
That was what mattered.
"Young Mizuki," All Might approached, his expression serious. "That was... extraordinary. Your quick thinking and combat ability saved lives today."
"Just did what needed doing," Rei said.
"That creature you fought—the Nomu—it was designed to combat me. For a student to even survive against it..." All Might trailed off. "You're far more capable than your entrance exam scores suggested."
"I don't like showing off."
"Clearly." All Might's eyes were analytical now, hero instincts assessing threat level. "We'll need to discuss this. Your abilities. Your training. How a fifteen-year-old moves like a professional."
'Here it comes. The questions I can't answer.'
Before Rei could respond, dozens of pro heroes burst through the entrance. Backup, finally arriving.
"Secure the area!" one shouted. "Check for injured!"
The plaza became chaos again. Heroes securing villains, checking students, Assessing damage.
In the confusion, Rei slipped to the edge of the crowd. Trying to disappear, to avoid questions.
A hand caught his arm.
Momo.
Rei looked at her, her eyes were intense.
"You saved my life," Momo continued. "You fought that... that thing. Alone. You could've died."
"But I didn't."
"Because you're stronger than you've shown anyone." Her grip tightened. "Why? Why hide it?"
Rei was silent for a long moment.
"Because being strong makes you a target," he finally said. "Makes people ask questions. Expect things."
"Is that why you held back during the Quirk Test? The battle trials?"
"Yes."
"Why show it now?"
Rei met her eyes. "Because you were in danger."
Momo's breath caught.
Before she could respond, Aizawa was being carried past on a stretcher, Recovery Girl hovering nearby. Their homeroom teacher was unconscious, badly injured, but alive.
The weight of what had happened settled over them.
Real villains, real danger, Real consequences.
"This changes everything, doesn't it?" Momo asked quietly.
"Yeah," Rei said. "It does."
Across the plaza, All Might was watching them. Deep in thought.
Rei had changed the timeline. Saved Momo from the Nomu. Defeated Kurogiri. Shown abilities that shouldn't exist.
The butterfly effect was in motion.
And there was no going back.
