"Amilys?"
How had Fiona not noticed the resemblance between the mysterious woman and Amilys?
So she had been the one showing her these visions all along.
The woman stood calmly before her, a faint smile resting on her lips, just as before.
"Yes, Fiona. Ask as your heart pleases."
She remained still as the cold breeze swayed her cloak around her.
"I'm confused," Fiona admitted. "Why am I here? And who is Jinx? How is he connected to me?"
"Jinx is the cause of danger," Amilys replied. "And you are here to learn your fate."
The smile vanished from her face at the mention of his name.
"What fate?" Fiona asked. "And what danger does he bring?"
The breeze brushed past Fiona's face like a whisper, chilling her skin.
"You will only find discomfort if you fail to find the rings," Amilys said, her voice flat, stripped of warmth. "The danger he caused still lives on. It affects humans and our kind."
Our kind?
Fiona frowned, her thoughts spiraling.
What had Jinx done to provoke such coldness? And what did Amilys mean by our kind?
"I still don't understand," Fiona said slowly. "Why are you here? And what are these rings everyone keeps mentioning?"
"I am here for you," Amilys answered. "I am your dream guide. And the rings are your fate."
Fiona stared at her, stunned.
"A dream guide?" she whispered. "My fate?"
"See you again, Fiona."
Without answering her questions, Amilys vanished. The world dissolved around her, and Fiona woke with a sharp breath, sweat clinging to her forehead.
