Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Is This the Tastiest Food in Great Xia?

"I didn't mind, got used to it."

As for this foreigner with dual faces, Lin Chen found him somewhat interesting too.

Lucas bit into the meat sandwich while looking up and down at the food truck.

"Dude, this food truck looks pretty new, and you're such a good cook. Doesn't seem like you just started on a whim. Why don't you have some pictures or, at least, a small TV?"

Lin Chen casually brushed it off with a few words. Couldn't exactly say he just decided to set up shop two hours ago, right?

Several foreigners who had been lingering nearby witnessed the entire transformation of Amber and Jade. Saying they weren't curious would be a lie. After hesitating for a while, they finally decided to come over and try one.

"Hey, here comes some business. I won't disturb you then. By the way, when do you usually set up shop? My survival in this foreign land depends on you!"

Lucas moved aside from the window while enthusiastically promoting the deliciousness of the meat sandwich and the over 5,000-year history of Great Xia in fluent French to the gathered crowd.

Lin Chen gave him a grateful look and thought for a moment before saying, "Not sure for now. I'm doing this part-time, so it depends on when I get off work."

"Unless something unexpected happens, I'll probably be here. Oh, tell you what, if you help me get some customers and let me sell all these meat sandwiches before midnight, I'll give you free food every time you come!"

"Really, such a good deal?!"

Lucas instantly perked up, hurriedly stuffed the remaining meat sandwich into his mouth, wiped his greasy mouth with a couple of napkins, and walked aside with his phone, tinkering with something.

"Boss, give me one Great Xia Burger."

"I want one too. Does it have any nuts? I'm allergic."

"No, it doesn't," he replied as he lifted the lid to get the meat, announcing to all the customers, "Only flour, butter, pork, and some spices are inside, none of which are major allergens. Eat with confidence!"

When working at a restaurant abroad, what shocked him most was the allergies.

There are all sorts of strange allergens. Anything you can think of, someone is allergic to it. Even the head chef once solemnly warned against serving cold rice, as some guests could have fatal allergies to it.

Hearing this at the time truly shocked him to the point of jaw-dropping.

Of course, these people are still a minority. Generally, those who come out to buy food will ask proactively. If not asked, there's a default assumption of no allergies.

As one fragrant, crispy meat sandwich after another was handed out through the window, the foreigners, with hungry stomachs, couldn't hold back their curiosity and took a bite to taste what it was all about.

"This white bread tastes somewhat familiar, a bit like English muffins after being pan-fried with butter."

"Yeah, I was just thinking that, turns out it's English muffins!"

"How exactly are the pork shreds made inside? Just saw the boss put in a whole strip of pork belly to boil. It looked quite fatty, but surprisingly, there's no greasy feeling at all when you eat it."

"Exactly, I've never actively bought pork belly from the supermarket, always thought the only way to cook it was to make bacon. If I could learn this recipe, I could make a new flavor of lunch for my kids to bring to school."

Lunch?!

Lin Chen's eyes lit up.

Yeah, why didn't I think of that?

He leaned forward and leaned out of the window.

"Well, our Great Xia Burger can be packaged separately. Just heat it in an oven or frying pan for five minutes when you get home, or two to three minutes in a toaster. A quick nuke in the microwave for the meat, and you're good to go. It's very convenient."

"Oh, is it that simple?"

"That's great, affordable, delicious, and convenient. Boss, give me five... no, make that ten, to go!"

"I'll take twelve; that way everyone at home can have two."

"Boss, can they be frozen? I live in the next town, two hours to the city, it's too much trouble. If possible, I might as well buy more this time. Not sure when I'll be back next."

Lin Chen beamed with joy, nodded repeatedly: "Yes, yes, just store them like regular bread in the freezer, just heat them a minute or two longer, no need to defrost in advance."

"Alright then, give me thirty – that's 150 euros, right? I'll go get my car; no parking here, so help hand them over later, will you?"

"Sure, sure, leave it to me!"

Originally worried about not being able to sell them, the moment he mentioned that they could be packaged for home, over fifty got sold in an instant, clearing almost half the inventory.

The other customers, clearly locals, weren't thinking of taking any to-go but came back to buy one more to eat on the way home after not going far.

The meat sandwiches aren't big, comparable to the street food hot dogs popular in the West, perfect for eating on the go without feeling overly full.

"Beep beep!!"

Soon, Sister Haofang drove over, and Lin Chen quickly handed over the three large bags that were already packed.

"Oh my God, look over there, what's going on?"

The act of taking several bags of food from the food truck immediately caught the attention of passersby.

A food truck isn't rare, but taking so many bags home is something anyone on the street would say they haven't seen yet.

"Let's go, check out what they're selling."

"Could it really be so good that you'd want to pack so much?"

More and more customers gathered around. Many foreigners who bought and were eating the meat sandwiches also gave high praise.

Lin Chen was sweating profusely, struggling to keep up, he almost felt busier than working in the back kitchen of a restaurant.

"So, as I was saying, the aerial footage of Great Xia I just showed you, and various vlogs by foreigners traveling there like me, Great Xia really is a magical and ancient..."

Lucas was leading a group of young men and women, barely adults, towards here, passionately talking about the delicious food of Great Xia.

In mid-sentence, he suddenly noticed the food truck was surrounded by layers of people, a sharp contrast to earlier when it was barely visited.

Seeing the bustling business at the food truck, the curiosity that had already been sparked in this group of young people was instantly ignited; they all crowded in without needing any urge from him.

Lucas blinked and stomped his foot.

"Damn, how did this happen, my free meal ticket, ahhhh!!"

"Hey Lucas, where did you go just now?"

Amber and Jade appeared out of nowhere, their eyes filled with complex emotions as they looked at the food truck.

"This burger, it's probably the best food from Great Xia, right? Didn't expect it to look so plain."

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

Lucas stared at his friend quizzically, "It's just a meat sandwich. Though it has a long history, it can at most be considered a kind of snack. In the cities I've been to, there are hundreds of such snacks."

"Beyond that, there are countless varieties of noodles, meat dishes, soups, drinks, desserts... Not to mention, the food culture varies in each city of Great Xia. There's no way to try it all in a lifetime."
