"Daddy will blow a really big bubble for you, then it won't hurt anymore. Wait here." Ned picked up a large bubble wand, waved it gently in the breeze, and a giant bubble floated gracefully into the air.
Emily stared at the huge bubble and forgot to cry. "Wow, such a big bubble!"
Sophie stood nearby watching the scene, with Victoria beside her. "He's so patient with the children. Much more patient than Jonathan ever was."
Sophie looked at Ned. He was teaching Emily how to blow bubbles, their heads close together, sunlight shining warmly on them.
Lunch was a buffet. The children sat on the grass with their plates, eating until their faces were messy.
The adults gathered around high-top tables, chatting while they ate.
"Who is that little girl in the blue dress?" Aunt Charlotte asked.
"She's Emily, Ned's daughter with his ex-wife Yui."
Charlotte glanced at Sophie. "And you… don't mind?"
