Chapter 16 - Plague Warriors

They will cleanse every planet in Ultramar, then radiate outward to the other star systems of the Imperium, saving humanity from its descent into the abyss and preventing the fate of the Human Imperium's demise.

Countless war engines were activated by the prayers of the tech-priests, their massive exhaust plumes trailing behind them as they detached from the spaceport and headed into the starry sky.

One after another, the Gellar Fields of the warships were activated, and the massive hulls were enveloped in a faint halo of light.

The Gellar Field is one of the crucial technologies that allows humanity to travel through the warp.

This field effectively prevents the Imperium's ships from being corrupted by the warp and stops the unliving entities hidden beneath the warp currents from attacking the vessels.

Guilliman's awakening and his fervent declaration of war had long since drawn the attention of the gods.

A Primarch actually daring to declare war on them was an unforgivable crime.

Their response was equally simple and brutal.

The warp boiled with the gods' fury, and the raging aetheric sea churned with tempestuous storms.

The aetheric currents rolled and roared, and destructive storms constantly assailed them.

Arrogance transformed into swirling maelstroms. Fury and desire merged into maddened storms, and despair became steep straits, with countless hungry daemons hidden on the sheer cliffs.

They waited for any weakness to appear in the Imperium's ships, so they could launch an attack.

The bound navigators were immersed in nutrient fluid, their arms and heads connected by cables to the ship's mechanical equipment.

They used their third eyes to the best of their ability to observe the direction of the aetheric currents, guiding the ship's navigation.

navigators are a special existence, with a history of tens of thousands of years.

When humanity ventured into the stars and began colonizing planets in the galaxy, navigators appeared in the human world.

During that Golden Age, a portion of humanity who first came into contact with the warp underwent subtle genetic mutations.

They became extremely sensitive to the flow of warp energy and could provide effective guidance and navigation for starships during warp travel.

These individuals, after modification and optimization, became navigators.

Navigators possess a third eye, either cybernetically implanted or a natural mutation.

This third eye can see the flow of aetheric energy in the warp, discern direction, and, most importantly, see the light of the Astronomican.

The Astronomican is a vital beacon for warp travel in the Imperium, built by the Emperor during the Great Crusade and currently maintained by the Adeptus Astronomica.

The fleet's journey was extremely dangerous, and even though he was mentally prepared, facing the warp storm directly, Guilliman still felt a sense of trepidation.

The light of the Astronomican was almost imperceptible, becoming very faint, and the navigators had to expend more effort to discern the route.

The Imperium's ships could no longer remain in the warp for extended periods as before; they had to exit the warp at regular intervals.

Thanks to the maintenance of the tech-priests, the Gellar Fields of every ship in the fleet were functioning normally.

Without the Gellar Field, humanity in the warp would be meat on the daemons' chopping block.

"It seems I must find a way to quell the warp storm," Guilliman said, looking at the data slate in his hand, his brow furrowed with concern. The warp storm was even more severe than he had anticipated.

Either find a way to quell the warp storm, or enhance the Imperium's ships' ability to withstand the warp storm.

If neither of these could be achieved, counterattacking the gods would be a joke.

Daemons and traitors did not need to worry about the effects of the warp storm, while the Human Imperium struggled. It was clear how difficult it would be for the Imperium to achieve victory.

Guilliman pondered where he could find something or technology to solve the navigation issue and ensure the Imperial fleet could reach its destination accurately.

Footsteps sounded, and a young man in a long robe with eyes that were all white entered the Primarch's private chambers.

"My lord."

The young man's eyes were blind, but he easily found Guilliman's location and bowed respectfully.

"Roshan, is something the matter?"

Guilliman interrupted his contemplation, looking up at the young man who had entered and spoke.

He did not mind the other party's pure white eyes; such white pupils were not uncommon.

The eyes of Astropaths were basically like this; simply put, they were all blind, but they possessed a psychic eye that could replace the function of physical eyes.

The Imperium's faster-than-light travel relied on the warp.

Interstellar faster-than-light communication naturally also relied on the warp.

The distances between star systems were simply too vast, often tens or hundreds of light-years.

Ordinary communication methods suffered severe delays and could not meet the Imperium's needs at all.

Warp communication was an inevitable necessity.

And Astropaths were the crucial figures that allowed the Imperium to transmit messages through the warp.

In every sector, sub-sector, and star system, Astropathic Fortresses would be established to collect and relay information.

Astropaths would convert the information they needed to send into psychic dreams. Then, using their psychic abilities, they would send it into the warp, across the galaxy, to other Astropaths.

Communication between Astropaths was not through text, but through psychic dreams.

The receiving Astropath needed to describe everything in the dream, and then interpret it to obtain the information.

To enhance this transmission and ensure it would not be corrupted by certain entities in the warp, Astropathic Fortresses would often form Astropathic Choirs to amplify the transmission power and ensure the Imperium could receive their messages.

All Astropathic Fortresses and Astropaths active in various fleets were controlled by the Adeptus Astronomica on Terra, who would regularly replenish the Astropaths for each fortress.

All Astropaths would undergo a special process that shaped their abilities, which was the Soul-Binding ritual.

Every so often, the Adeptus Astronomica would send the selected psykers to the Imperial Palace.

These psykers would be purified by the Emperor's power, allowing them to maintain their sanity under the scrutiny and whispers of warp daemons, and not be corrupted or devoured.

However, the Soul-Binding ritual also carried risks. Due to the Emperor's powerful will and psychic energy, ordinary psykers could not directly perceive his presence in the warp, often resulting in damage to their visual organs and causing blindness.

In more tragic cases, they would lose their sense of smell and hearing as well.

Roshan was fortunate; he did not lose everything, only his eyes.

"New information, my lord, a distress signal from the Sara system. Chaos forces are still rampant there, and the local defenders claim they are under attack by Plague Marines."

"Plague Marines??"

Guilliman frowned slightly but quickly relaxed and made arrangements.

"Let the fleet continue towards the industrial system - Konor. I will lead a small force to deal with this matter."

"My lord, is this perhaps inappropriate? You should not personally take such risks. Perhaps you could order a few captains to handle this matter."

Roshan spoke, advising Guilliman not to go himself, but to assign the task to others.

"Nowhere is absolutely safe; danger is something a Primarch needs to face. I need some victories to stabilize the hearts of the Imperium's citizens.

Even insignificant victories will be interpreted by those citizens who yearn for victory as the Imperium counterattacking, and Chaos failing, do you understand, Roshan? They are too afraid and need victories to comfort and boost their confidence."

Guilliman looked at Roshan standing before him and said with a smile.

"But I still don't think this is a good idea. You are too important. If something were to happen, who would guide the Imperium?"

"I am not a vase; I am a Primarch, a Primarch with great power. The purpose for which I was created is to help the Imperium win battles, not to be placed on a shelf as a mascot.

Our conversation ends here. I hope you will return to your post and continue to gather information from the warp. I look forward to the next information you bring."

"I shall obey your command, my lord."

"Very well, go. And tell Sicarius at the door to come in. I have something to say to him."

Roshan bowed again and walked out. He understood that once a Primarch made a decision, it was unshakeable. He could offer suggestions, but they were only suggestions.

The authority of a Primarch was not to be questioned. Roshan heard Guilliman's words and obediently walked out, and then told Sicarius to go in and find the Primarch.

Signed the contract, two updates a day, and will explode with updates after it's put on the shelves, brothers, please support me.
