The 'Glory of Macragge' experienced intermittent warp travel for three weeks before finally locking onto the real-space coordinates of the Talassa system and emerging from the warp.
Before arriving, Guilliman had not sent a system-wide message to the planet Talassa.
Such a massive fleet entering real space from the warp immediately triggered the system's defense mechanisms.
The fleet responsible for defending the Talassa system, thinking it was a Chaos traitor attack aimed at releasing the imprisoned daemons and seizing the sealed artifacts, nearly launched an assault.
It was only after both sides reported their Imperial transit sequences and exchanged identities that a misunderstanding was avoided.
Guilliman's fleet entered the Talassa system and headed directly for its destination - the planet Talassa.
Talassa is a fortress world, heavily modified by the Inquisition for security.
The entire planet is surrounded by numerous weapon platforms, space mines, and launch silos.
A Chaos fleet could never capture this planet without paying a heavy price.
The Talassa system is the main base for the active Inquisitors in the Ultramar sector, and a large number of daemon hosts and warp artifacts are sealed here.
The existence of daemon hosts is quite special; after selecting humans with specific physiques, Inquisitors inscribe specific marks, runes, and protective spells onto them.
Then, the original soul is emptied, transforming the person into a special flesh vessel.
Once everything is ready, they use mysterious rituals and the true names of daemons to bind them within the flesh vessels, imprisoning them.
This is a very effective sealing method.
However, radical Inquisitors, in order to better deal with daemons, often take extreme measures.
They will create a daemon host to fight against other daemons and extract information.
Of course, such behavior is very dangerous; if discovered, it is considered treason and can potentially lead to a declaration of Excommunicate Traitoris.
Contact and dealings with daemons are among the most intolerable things in the Imperium.
Once exposed, it often attracts suspicion and attacks from multiple factions.
This is also the reason why Guilliman wants to find a 'white glove'; he cannot leave any weaknesses, especially when he cannot yet control the entire Imperium.
Radical Inquisitors are his best cover.
If things become impossible, he can also abandon the pawns to protect himself.
This is not because Guilliman is cruel and treats people as tools.
It is because the Chaos Gods are omnipresent, and he must be fully prepared.
Horus, because the Emperor excluded him from the Council of Terra, became dissatisfied and eventually chose to betray humanity when tempted by Chaos.
The greatest enemy of the Human Imperium is the Chaos Gods, but the Chaos Gods' control over the material universe is not strong; they can only choose proxies to disrupt the Human Imperium.
Guilliman cannot predict if there will be another Horus.
If there is, who will be the next Horus??
Cato Sicarius?
Belisarius Cawl?
The Custodes?
The High Lords?
No one can predict who the next traitor will be or what form they will take to destroy the Imperium.
Guilliman can only try his best to hold a good hand.
To have a good hand, he must occupy a position of righteousness.
To occupy a position of righteousness, he cannot have any flaws, at least nothing that can be used against him.
He wants a good reputation, and he also wants information about the warp.
This 'white glove' plan is a top-secret plan that he must execute.
daemon hosts are things recovered by the Inquisition when they purge radical Inquisitors; they are imprisoned deep within the fortress city and, barring accidents, will be sealed there forever.
Besides daemon hosts, the source of warp artifacts is more complex.
Since the birth of the first star, the Milky Way galaxy has existed for 13 billion years.
Countless civilizations have risen and fallen, their structures erased by the power of time.
Even the necrons have not existed for more than a hundred million years.
It is easy to imagine how many secrets this ancient galaxy hides.
The eldar were not the first race to interact with the warp, nor were their creators, the Old Ones.
Many ancient races once rose, studied the warp, sought ancient and forbidden knowledge from it, and created countless artifacts with mysterious power.
With the decline of these civilizations, those artifacts were also lost in the ruins.
A large number of so-called artifacts are buried in unknown places, those ancient and evil things waiting to be rediscovered.
These things often carry pure malice; they will use any means to tempt ignorant people to break their seals and regain their freedom.
The Inquisition collects and seals these things to prevent them from corrupting ignorant humans.
Guilliman's arrival caused a huge sensation; High Lords Inquisitor emerged from their residences and lined up at the spaceport to welcome the Lord Regent of the Imperium.
In terms of scale, the Inquisitors' welcoming party was far less extravagant than that of the Ecclesiarchy.
After all, there is a significant difference in wealth between the two.
The wealth of the Ecclesiarchy is well-known throughout the Imperium, apart from Forge Worlds controlled by the Adeptus Mechanicus, recruiting worlds controlled by space marine Chapters, and special worlds like Talassa that house daemons and artifacts.
All Imperial worlds are required to pay a tithe to the Ecclesiarchy.
Another important reason why the welcoming ceremony was not as grand as the Ecclesiarchy's was that the Talassa fortress city did not have many ordinary people; they were mostly servants who served the Inquisition.
These servants are destined to work for the Inquisition from birth, learning relevant knowledge, rituals, and waiting to become daemon hosts or preparing to go out with Inquisitors to purge xenos and daemons.
Their numbers are small, far fewer than the populations of Ecclesiarchy worlds.
Guilliman was not concerned about the lack of a grand welcoming ceremony.
He had not come to Talassa for vanity.
The airlock opened, and Guilliman, surrounded by the Honour Guard, stepped out, walking along the red carpet towards the many Inquisitors under everyone's gaze.
All Inquisitors who were not on missions were gathered here.
The arrival of the Lord Regent of the Imperium greatly encouraged them; a light that could not be ignored appeared in the dark galaxy.
"My Lord Primarch."
The High Lord Inquisitor named Covenant led the other Inquisitors in kneeling and greeting him.
"Rise."
Guilliman looked at Covenant, who had artificial implants in his jaw, and said, "I have come here to rectify the chaos within the Inquisition and require your full cooperation. Submit all Inquisitor records to me; I need to conduct a review."
Guilliman used another excuse to conceal his true purpose.
Of course, sorting out the chaotic relationships within the Inquisition was also a necessary task.
The chaos within the Inquisition is unimaginable.
Nominally, all Inquisitors are of equal rank.
This means that one Inquisitor has no right to interrogate another Inquisitor, nor does he have the right to demand an explanation for the other's plans.
Even more frightening is that they have great power, capable of mobilizing the Imperial Navy, planetary defense forces, and if they are skilled at diplomacy, even Space Marines.
What can happen with vast and unsupervised power is self-evident.
Under Guilliman's command, the records of all active and living Imperial Inquisitors in the Ultramar sector were sent over.
"You have accomplished a great deal of work."
Guilliman looked at the mountain of documents and said to Covenant, the High Lord Inquisitor of Talassa .
"It is our duty, My Lord."
Covenant bowed his head, his internal artificial device emitting a soft hum.
He had lost his jaw during a mission and had to have a mechanical jaw implanted using Adeptus Mechanicus technology.
After a brief conversation, Guilliman began to review the records.
A Primarch can quickly process an unimaginable amount of information in a second and make decisions.
With this ability, Guilliman spent several hours reviewing all the Inquisitors' records and extracting the candidates he was looking for.
"This Eisenhorn, why does he have several instances of summoning daemons?? Is he a loyalist??"
Guilliman looked at Covenant, his brows slightly furrowed, showing a hint of dissatisfaction.
"Yes, My Lord. His summoning of daemons was by no means intentional but forced by circumstances. The enemies of the Emperor he encountered were too powerful, and in order to eliminate these terrible enemies, he had no choice but to use such extreme methods."
Covenant explained as best he could.
"Is he currently serving at an Inquisitor Academy?" Guilliman asked.
"Yes, My Lord."
"Then have him come to see me. I must investigate to prevent any shameful heretics from lurking within the Imperium and becoming a hidden danger," Guilliman said.
