Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Mother's Suspicious Death

Zhang Zhiyi has another identity, she is the wife of Yujiang City's City Lord, Xiahou Shang.

Five years ago, Zhang Zhiyi married Yujiang City's most wealthy gentleman, Xiahou Shang. Although the couple remained as loving as ever after marriage, Xiahou Shang's family had always looked down on Zhang Zhiyi's background and ostracized her.

To this day, her name has not been entered into the Xiahou Family's genealogy.

The wedding where Xu Xingguang first met Jiang Heng was Zhang Zhiyi and Xiahou Shang's.

Recalling Zhang Zhiyi's kindness, Xu Xingguang's voice became hoarse as she spoke, "Elder sister, long time no see." Indeed, it had been a long time.

Hearing the long-lost yet familiar call, Zhang Zhiyi was unable to hold back her tears.

Once Zhang Zhiyi calmed down, Xu Xingguang began to inquire about her mother's death. "Senior sister, my dad told me that my mom died because she drove drunk into the river while attending a party to save the company by securing investments. Is that true?"

Xu Xingguang didn't believe a word from Xu Zeqing and wanted to hear Zhang Zhiyi's perspective.

Hearing this, Zhang Zhiyi looked disgusted, as if she had swallowed a maggot. "I spit!" Zhang Zhiyi cursed angrily, "He really knows how to spin words, making something so vile sound nice!"

Upon hearing this, Xu Xingguang's eyes darkened, and she asked in a cold voice, "Is there another side to the story?"

Zhang Zhiyi nodded with red eyes, gripping Xu Xingguang's hand as she slowly recounted the truth of the past.

It turned out that after Xu Xingguang became comatose, Jiang Heng approached Xu Zeqing, wanting him to sign a voluntary blood donation application on behalf of Xu Xingguang, as her guardian.

But Mo Yinshu disagreed and quarreled with Xu Zeqing, leading their relationship to become superficial and estranged.

"During that time, the teacher often stayed in a house over in Cangshan Town and rarely returned. She even mentioned wanting a divorce. On the other side, Jiang Heng became impatient and deliberately targeted your father's company. You've probably seen through your dad by now; he's someone who appears noble but is actually malevolent."

Xu Xingguang fully agreed with Zhang Zhiyi's assessment of Xu Zeqing.

"What happened next?"

Zhang Zhiyi told her, "Xu Zeqing knew the teacher loved you dearly and would never agree to make you a blood bank. So, he lied and deceived the teacher."

"What lie did he tell?"

"He lied to the teacher, saying that if she could go to the party and get President Li to invest and help his company overcome its immediate crisis, he would publicly reveal Jiang Heng's true colors and fight him to the bitter end. The teacher believed him and went to the party, but..."

Zhang Zhiyi started to sob again as she recounted, "But they drugged the teacher. Realizing something was wrong, she jumped out of a window to escape at the first opportunity."

"Those bastards!" Xu Xingguang could hardly believe the truth was so ugly!

Zhang Zhiyi sorrowfully said, "That day, I happened to be on a business trip abroad with the President. When I received the call from your brother-in-law, the teacher's car had already been pulled out of the Yujiang River. Brother Shang told me that the car the teacher was in was severely deformed from a major collision, and she was thrown out of the car, falling into the Yujiang River."

"Later, I returned to the country and used your brother-in-law's influence to check the surveillance from that night. I found out that the internal surveillance from the party was taken away. Fortunately, the road surveillance outside captured the teacher escaping by jumping from the second floor of the banquet hall."

"Otherwise, no one would know the injustice she suffered."

Talking about Mo Yinshu's death, Zhang Zhiyi was filled with agony. "Xingguang, elder sister is not lying to you. I still have that surveillance video and can bring it for you to see."

After listening, Xu Xingguang's eyes were filled with a chilling red.

She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, then opened her bloodshot eyes, declaring calmly yet wildly, "Very well, they dared to bully a poor mother like this. I will never let them get away!"

"Elder sister, stop crying." Xu Xingguang took a tissue to wipe Zhang Zhiyi's tears.

Zhang Zhiyi said guiltily, "Over these two years, I've been thinking, if I could have found a way to help your father's company get through the tough times, maybe the teacher wouldn't have had to die?"

"Elder sister, you've already done your best. Life at the Xiahou Family hasn't been easy since you married my brother-in-law. Even if you and my brother-in-law could temporarily stabilize Xu Zeqing's company, could you really keep fighting Jiang Heng? Ultimately, it was Jiang Heng who pushed too far."

The greater the family, the more entangled their interests become.

The Xiahou Family did have the guts to break ties with Jiang Heng, but they would never allow Xiahou Shang to lose favor with the Jiang Family for Zhang Zhiyi's sake.

Zhang Zhiyi stayed in the room until late at night before leaving, but Xu Xingguang couldn't sleep. She lay there, eyes wide open, pondering how to play this game so that she could eliminate all the villains at the smallest price.

Unknowingly, it became morning.

Caregiver Sister Linlin walked into the room carrying breakfast. Seeing Xu Xingguang looking worn-out, she grumbled, "Xingguang, during recovery, you need enough sleep. Did you stay up late playing with your phone again last night?"

Sister Linlin took away Xu Xingguang's phone sternly, saying, "Come on, eat breakfast. After eating, we must continue with the rehabilitation training!"

Under Sister Linlin's supervision, Xu Xingguang completed her rehabilitation plan in just one short month.

Her body transformed significantly, gaining six to seven kilos on her previously reed-thin frame, her complexion became rosy, and her legs grew stronger.

Now, she could climb ten flights of stairs without gasping for breath, healthier than before her hospitalization.

Doctor Zhang evaluated Xu Xingguang and thought she could be discharged, telling her, "You can notify your family to pick you up from the hospital tomorrow." However, thinking about how her family hadn't visited during her stay, Doctor Zhang's eyes showed sympathy.

"Thank you for all your help during this time, Doctor Zhang." Xu Xingguang took the discharge papers and intended to handle the procedures.

Doctor Zhang stopped her, saying, "Xingguang, it's better to discharge in the morning for good fortune. Go handle it tomorrow morning." Doctor Zhang sincerely wished for a smoother life for Xu Xingguang in the future.

These past years, she really suffered a lot.
