Ryan's POV
"What the hell just happened at the dinner, those fools had the guts to point a gun to my head!" I flung the documents and things that were on the table.
I had woken up this morning with a sour arm, my doctor had left earlier with a warning for me to be careful.
Dave and Ian were staring at me with concerned looks. Apart from my legit business, I am the King of the Underworld. My father left his empire to me and I had to take it because I couldn't let Rosalyn get engaged in this dangerous world.
"How the hell did they get past the easy security?" Dave asked with a weird look in his eyes.
"There must be something they have and it must have been premeditated. They got past all the guards by drugging their drinks. We took a test on them." Ian chipped in.
"Then we have an insider, try checking the cameras, Dave. See what you can find." I told Dave, he nodded and started walking out then he paused.
"How is Rosalyn? I haven't seen her since we got back here."
"I sent her home with guards last night. They reported to me that she was okay. Why ask?" I raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Nothing at all. You know that she is like a baby sister to us all."
"Not to you! She is my baby sister. Now go do as you're told."
Dave rolled his eyes at me and walked out, shaking his head.
While Dave is our tech guy, Ian knows everything going on in the streets.
"You need to calm down, Ryan. We will definitely find the fools. Word on the street is that there is a new player in Underworld. He claims that he is "the Viper", no one knows his true identity. He wants to overthrow the King and take his place."
"Ian, I'm waiting for the bastard, let him come."
"Don't ever underestimate your opponent, Ryan."
"I've not been King for so long just by being some weakling that can easily be thrown out in the street."
Ian heaved a sigh. He has always been the calm, strategist amongst us.
"I'll be careful, before you start nagging like my mom."
"You know me too well. I should go and see if I can dig anything more. I'll keep in touch."
He bowed slightly and walked out, leaving me to my thoughts.
My phone began to ring out loud and to my surprise, it was no other than Elena's father, Charles Thorn. I picked the call.
"Hello, Sir."
"Ryan, my son. I'm so glad that you picked up the call. Tell me, how are you?"
"I'm fine, Sir."
"Always so straight to the point. We're family now you know. Anyways thank you for keeping my daughter safe, I saw what you did."
"It's no problem, I would have done it for anyone else."
"Really? So there was no spark there? By the way, speaking of anyone else, why was your ex fiancée, Monalisa, by you?" His voice turned cold and icy.
"I wasn't aware of her presence at the party."
"Hope she won't ruin my plans, you know I don't deal well with these things."
"It wouldn't happen again, Sir."
"I know the marriage is just on paper for now but I want something real out of it. I don't want my baby, struggling with mistresses."
"I have better things to do, than frolicking with women."
"Perfect, so you wouldn't be against this date. I would like to formally invite you over to my house for dinner with my family." His voice resonated with glee.
"When?"
"Today, I'm sure it wouldn't be a hassle. I'll be waiting."
I didn't reply to him, I cut the call. If there's one thing I've always hated is to be bossed around. But I have too much at stake at the moment.
"Ryan, are you in there?" My baby sister, Rosalyn, barged into my office with worry written all over her face.
"Yes, but no need to answer since you let yourself in already." I growled playfully.
"I was so worried about you. Those people came after you." She was all over me in seconds placing her hands against my forehead.
"I'm fine, Rosalyn." I gently pushed her hands off me.
"You're not, I know the doctor checked up on you last night. I'm so scared of losing you, you're all I have left."
"You won't lose me, okay?" I held her to myself.
"So I heard something."
"What gossip did you find this time, Rosalyn?"
She gasped in fake shock and folded her arms, pouting slightly.
"Okay, I'm sorry. What did you hear?"
Her hands immediately left her sides. "Are you getting married?"
I paused at her question. This was definitely not how I hoped that she would find out. Jeez, how will I do it?
"Yes, I am. I barely know the lady, she definitely behaves like some spoiled brat."
She chuckled at my words. "If she infuriates you so badly then why marry her?"
"My hands were tied. I had to."
"I think I'm beginning to like whoever this woman is. She is definitely able to rile you up, that's a bonus for her concerning you."
"Really? Well since you seem to like her so much why not join me for dinner at her place?"
"No way! My brother is finally becoming more human, getting over that bitch, Monalisa."
"Don't cuss!"
"Well I was right about that, she was horrible. Till this day, everyone hates her in this house but you. She always treated me badly but you were too blinded by love to see it." Rosalyn said bitterly.
"I'm sorry about what I did, Rosalyn. This time I'll do better."
"No problem, the bigger question is how you knew what transpired since you weren't there."
"Dave told me." She shrugged and then looked everywhere but me. "I should go dressed, it's already four pm, I need to change nicely." She rushed out without letting me speak.
I paid more attention to her actio
ns and folded my arms, this is something.
What is going on between Dave and my sister? Hopefully it's not what I think?
