Chapter 17 - Chapter Seventeen

Elena's POV

Rosalyn held my hands as we exited the elevator, she closed early so she could drive me home away from the ruckus.

Just as we stepped in her car, her phone began to ring. She pulled it out and rolled her eyes at the caller then placed it down. The call ended but whoever was at the other end was pretty persistent.

She picked the phone and placed it in her ears. "What?" It sounded pretty rude.

Her eyes widened and she took in a sharp gasp. "Which hospital?"

My eyebrows furrowed, who was in the hospital?

"You can follow behind us, we'll head there right now." She then took the phone out of her ears and placed it back in her bag.

"Is everything okay? Who is at the hospital?" Concern evident in my voice.

"Your father, he also just had a heart attack." She pulled us out of the parking space and began to drive eastward.

Tears threatened to spill from my eyes. Could my day get any worse? My father has always been hale and hearty, which would have made him have a heart attack.

"Did they say what could have caused it?"

"Not at all, they didn't. But we will find out soon, he is at Lockwood Hospital."

"Is he coming?"

She heaved a sigh and used her free arm to rub against my hand. "Yes, he is. Do you want me to tell him to stay back?"

"No, it's not important. I'm more concerned about my Dad's health."

She looked at me as if she didn't believe a word from my mouth but remained silent. It was a very quiet ride and in fifteen minutes we soon got to the Lockwood Hospital.

I stepped out before her and rushed towards the hospital doors. I walked to the reception and found a pretty blonde with bright red lipstick at the desk.

She gave me a weird look that had a bit of hostility. "How can I help you?" She asked with a snarky tone.

"Do I know you from anywhere?"

"No you don't. I don't have the time for chit-chat, how may I help you Miss?" She said again, sounding completely rude.

"I didn't know that junior workers are so rude here, I'll have to inform Professor Lockwood." Rosalyn's voice echoed behind me.

"And who are you?" The receptionist asked Rosalyn.

"Rosalyn Redland, not so pleased to meet you. Now where is Mr. Charles Thorn's room?"

The receptionist looked completely pale and handed over a card with the room number and directions without saying another word.

Rosalyn snatched it and pulled me after her as she walked down the hallway. "I hate it when people talk down on others. It pisses me the hell off. You've had enough for today."

I didn't utter another word. We soon got to a room and she knocked on the door.

"Come in." A baritone voice echoed from inside. We both entered the room and Nonna was sitting beside my father. She rushed at me and hugged me so tight.

"I'm so glad you're here, baby. I was so worried about you."

"What happened?" I asked her as I pulled away slightly.

"He seemed to have a mild shock. I do not know what exactly happened but something must have triggered it. We have been able to regulate his condition and he should be awake in some hours. We gave him medications so he would be out for sometime but not too long." A handsome middle aged man with silver hair, neatly combed to the back addressed us.

"Thank you so much, doctor."

He smiled at me and walked past us. "You're welcome, just doing my job."

"Rosalyn my child, I've missed talking to you. You've not come to see me at the house and we have only talked on the phone since your last visit." Nonna pulled Rosalyn for a tight hug while I rushed to the side of my father.

He looked so peaceful, and calm. Unlike his usual bossy and stern self. I'm glad he has stabilized but what still bothers me is what could have caused him a heart attack.

The door is pushed open and Ryan walks in with Ian, his best friend. "How is he?" He asked Nonna and behaved as if I wasn't even there.

"The doctors were able to stabilize his condition and now he is getting better."

"What caused the heart attack? Do you know what happened?"

"He saw something on the news and it came as a shock."

"What did he see?"

"That's not what I'd like to discuss now, can you go to the reception and get us cleared?" Nonna said towards Ryan, he nodded and walked out of the room with his friend.

"How is your relationship with that man?" Nonna asked me as she sat on a chair beside me. Rosalyn got comfortable on a sofa behind us.

"It's horrible, Nonna. Look, he came in here and could barely spare a glance at me. In fact I heard him regretting our union earlier. I wish things were different."

"He will definitely come around, my dear." She rubbed my back soothingly.

"My brother is just the complete opposite of who you are. He hasn't had anyone bring so much chaos and colour in his life for so long that he is finding it hard to keep up. I'm so sorry about this, but I'm sure things will fall in place soon." Rosalyn said in between yawns.

"I think you girls should take a nap. I'd go back to the house and cook something before you all wake up." Nonna stood and kissed our foreheads then headed out.

Just as she had said in seconds I was out like light.

A gentle nudge made me wake up and the aroma of food pulled me out of my short nap.

I looked up and my Dad was staring at me but he didn't look impressed at all. Everyone seemed to have their eyes on me for some weird reason.

"You need to have something in your belly, my girl." Nonna rubbed my back and began to plate my food.

Ryan and his friend were sitting beside Rosalyn but he looked so judgemental.

"What's going on here?"

"The bigger question is what the hell are you doing here?" My father groaned weakly.

"What's that supposed to mean Dad?"

"You have no shame, do you have any idea what is on the news, trending?"

"No, Dad. What is?"

Rosalyn tapped my shoulders and handed her phone over. My eyes widened as I read the news.

"Trouble in Paradise, The New Redland Bride Going Physical with an Executive to Lay Claim on her Cheating Husband"
