Chapter 40: God Is Coming

...........

"I targeted you simply because you were a convenient target. One I could not fail against. After all," His voice took on a theatrical lilt, "I am the main character of this show, and this isn't yet the Finalee."

[HE SAID THE THING! HE SAID THE "MAIN CHARACTER" LINE TO THE KINGPIN'S FACE!]

[What the fuck!? That's a new fucking high of fourth wall breaking?]

[Fisk is about to have an aneurysm.]

[He knows! He knooows!]

[Relax, like, obviously, the writers know the main character of the show, so they can just write the line in; this doesn't tell us anything.]

[Yeah, nothing supernatural about that.]

[It happened time and time again; this is no longer a coincidence. I believe!]

Fisk's laughter boomed through the phone, a sound of genuine, derisive amusement. "You… you are a child. A childish baby, throwing a tantrum because Hydra scraped your brain clean."

"Do you think you are untouchable? Why do you think I am talking to you right now? At this very moment, Hydra is tracking this connection. They are likely about to find you, and… bomb you into oblivion."

Adam's bloody lips curved into a strange smile. "Are you sure about that?"

Fisk's amusement vanished. "What do you mean?"

"If that were to happen," Adam said calmly, "the great Kingpin would face the bombing too. Because… I am parked outside your headquarters."

[OH SHIT. HYDRA'S INCOMING!]

[He's parked outside Fisk Tower! Is he trying to get them both killed?!]

In his fortified office, Wilson Fisk stood up, his massive frame casting a long shadow. "Are you in such a hurry to die? Dying by my hand or Hydra's fire is the same."

[HE'S USING HIMSELF AS BAIT AND USING FISK AS A HUMAN SHIELD!]

[That's so fucking idiotic, no way Adam does that with Doom's intellect!]

[Indeed, that'd be blasphemy to I, the Great Doom's name!]

[Hydra gives no fuck about Fisk, no way that succeeds.]

Adam ignored the question. "Knowing Hydra's nature, they would bomb this entire street regardless. Your life is worthless to them."

[See, told ya.]

[Doom's honour is safe!]

[No blasphemy to see here.]

He paused for effect. "But fortunately for you, and the reason I'm here, is to harvest the fruits of my labor. To declare my win."

"You see, through certain means, I sold one of your underlings; the one with a penchant for collecting unique artifacts; a helmet."

"I bugged it. I know it's now in your headquarters. And that helmet… is a very big target. My nuclear option."

[No way it's the Helmet I'm thinking of!?]

[THE HELMET! HE SOLD MAGNETO'S HELMET TO FISK'S PEOPLE!]

[Dude, he planted a BEACON FOR MAGNETO!]

[This man plays 4D chess while everyone else is playing checkers.]

[He's playing with death!! Trying to manipulate Magneto!?]

[Hmph, with my intellect, he won't make such a silly mistake! Doom does not make mistakes!]

[...]

He let out a sigh, "I know I'm outmatched. I haven't had much time. I can't face the entire underworld; I'm not a god yet."

He opened his car door, the city sounds flooding in. "But I know someone who could be considered a god. And now, I can see him walking into your building… God is coming, and you'd better show him the greatest of hospitality."

["God is coming." CHILLS. ABSOLUTE CHILLS.]

[He certainly didn't beat Fisk. He arranged for a god to do it for him.]

[The way he's acting. I think he's made a deal with Magneto.]

Walking through the grand, reinforced entrance of Fisk Tower was an old man in simple, but impeccably tailored, old-fashioned clothes.

He moved with the innate grace of a king returning to his castle. It was Magneto.

His helmet was missing, a persistent itch in his mind that his power could sense from miles away.

Or rather, Adam had scheduled a meeting with him, but the Master of Magnetism had decided to retrieve his property first. Priorities.

[MAGNETO! HE'S HERE!]

[The music just changed to the X-Men '97 theme in my head!]

[Fisk has no idea what's about to hit him.]

[Oh, he has an idea, alright. I can only imagine his expression at the moment.]

He walked in, uninvited. Immediately, guards raised their weapons. It was a futile gesture.

The guns, and the bullets within them, were not his enemies; they were his oldest friends.

With a casual flick of his will, the weapons tore from their owners' grips, floating in the air and spinning to fire back at them.

The lobby descended into chaos, the staccato rhythm of gunfire and screams echoing off the marble.

[Classic Magneto entrance! Never gets old!]

[He just turned their own arsenal against them. Such a cool superpower.]

[Aura!!] [+1] [+1] [+1] [+1] [+1]

[Cinema!!][+1] [+1] [+1] [+1] [+1]

[Magneto's aura is up there in the entirety of Marvel.]

The entire building seemed to shudder as something monumental tore through an upper-floor wall, sending glass and steel raining down.

It came from who knows where, flying through the walls as if paper.

It glided through the air with extraordinary speed before coming to a perfect, gentle halt in Magneto's outstretched hand.

He traced his fingers over the familiar, resonant alloy. "It's been a while, old friend," He murmured.

[He just called his helmet 'old friend.' My heart!]

[The helmet is his old friend!]

[This is cinema!]

When Adam walked into the building shortly after, he found a path of destruction.

Bodies and rubble littered the way to the top floor, guided by the feed from his cybernetic eyes, aka, the cameras everywhere.

He entered Fisk's opulent office to find Magneto seated in the Kingpin's own throne-like chair, his posture regal and utterly at ease.

Several of Fisk's most loyal lay dead around him.

Domino stood on the opposite side of the massive desk, looking utterly relaxed, as if she were waiting for a latte.

[Domino just chilling amidst the carnage is a whole mood.]

[I fucking love Magneto!]

[Magneto has definitely taken lessons from Piccolo in Aura Farming!]

And in the center of the room, a sphere of compressed metal and wiring floated.

From a small gap, a head was visible; the head of Wilson Fisk. His bulky body was imprisoned within the ball, his face a mask of pure, impotent despair.

His mouth opened and closed, no sound escaping the dense metal. When his eyes locked onto Adam, his expression twisted into a final, fierce hatred before collapsing back into hopelessness.

Why did this son of a bitch involve Magneto? His mind screamed. He hadn't known Adam's backing was the fucking Master of Magnetism; a god on Earth!

[FISK IN A BALL! I'M SCREAMING!]

[The Kingpin, one of Marvel's biggest bads, reduced to a head in a metal sphere.]

[The look of realization on his face... priceless.]

Adam nodded to Magneto before turning to Domino. "How did you get caught?"

She raised a brow, a smirk playing on her lips. "Get caught? I didn't get caught. I just wanted to win big, so I surrendered. Figured it was the fastest way to get to the man himself."

"I mean, what's the worst that could happen? They all die?" She shrugged. "My improvising was a bit redundant, though, given the entrance."

[Domino: "I didn't get caught, I was optimizing."]

[She's minmaxing life.]

Adam took a seat, wincing slightly as his wounds protested. "Magneto. How have you been?"

Magneto's gaze was like tempered steel. "You have a knack for manipulation and trickery. You try to use me again and again."

Adam chuckled, though it hurt his ribs. "I apologize. I can't help it. I was so innocent before, but Hydra… well, they did a number on me."

"Their tactics are quite useful, so I learned from them. If anything, you should blame them. Perhaps go and destroy them?"

[He's still blaming everything on Hydra! The commitment is admirable!]

["Go and destroy them." He says it so casually!]

[Hydra's living rent free in his head, and that isn't good news for them.]

A genuine, deep laugh escaped Magneto. "You are the most audacious and shameless man I have ever encountered, and I have lived a very long time."

His amusement faded. "But tell me, why do you believe I will not kill you here and now, after all this trickery? You must know the same trick will not work twice on me."

[He's not wrong. Adam is skating on very thin ice.]

[How is he going to talk his way out of this one?]
