Gideon remained where he stood, unable to say a word, his gaze fixed on her retreating figure. A troubled expression settled on his face. He hadn't been doubting her at all—he only wanted to know where she had gone and whether she was safe. Unfortunately, she had completely misunderstood his intentions.
What pained him even more was that he couldn't blame her for reacting that way. The fault lay with him. In the past, when she had pleaded with him to trust her and listen to the truth, he had refused. And now, when he finally wanted to explain himself, she wouldn't even hear him out.
His hand slowly pressed against his chest.
"So this is what you felt back then…" he murmured.
The phone rang, and Gideon answered without delay. "Hello?"
"Sir, we've confirmed everything," Matthew reported from the other end. "Madam was indeed at that boutique."
Gideon's brows knit together. He couldn't understand what she would be doing at a shop that had been closed.
