Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Turning Hostile

Uncle Wang advised from the side, "Yaoguang, let your Second Uncle go and bandage his wound first."

Su Yaoguang glanced at where Uncle Su was injured and said coldly, "That kind of injury won't kill him."

"You little brat, I'm your Second Uncle, and you're disrespecting your elders," Uncle Su said, clutching his wound and moaning in pain.

Su Yaoguang looked towards the inside, thinking that Zhou Wangshu's wound needed to be rebandaged.

"Second Uncle is injured, so just wait here. I'll go fetch Doctor Lin."

Uncle Su thought for a moment; since it was Su Yaoguang's wild man who had injured him, she should be responsible.

He found a place to sit and shouted, "Hurry up, then!"

Su Yaoguang said to Uncle Wang, "Uncle Wang, thank you for your help today. You can go about your business; I can handle it myself."

"Your mother doesn't seem to be home. Can you manage on your own?" Uncle Wang was a bit worried.

"I'll be fine." Su Yaoguang went out to find Doctor Lin.

Just as she stepped out, she saw Su Xiaohua from next door peeking out and asked, "Sister Xiao Hua, my mother isn't home. Do you know where she went?"

Su Xiaohua wore ill-fitting clothes and was so skinny that she hardly had any flesh on her; she was timid and cowardly, avoiding eye contact when spoken to.

"Someone in the neighboring village asked her to help with a delivery, so she might not be back tonight."

After saying that, she ran off without even hearing Su Yaoguang's thanks.

Su Yaoguang walked through the village path to Doctor Lin's house. When she saw Xiao Yanci carrying firewood down the mountain, she paused.

She scrutinized the elegant man before her.

The memory of that aloof expression was still there. Even carrying firewood, his back was straight. His eyes were cold, contrasting starkly with the village women and farmers.

So even he could compromise.

In her past life, how could she have been so foolish to think of him as an unattainable moon and couldn't bear to bring him down? Look, didn't someone else take him just fine!

Xiao Yanci noticed Su Yaoguang and recognized her as the village girl who despised him.

Seeing this village girl, a look of disgust flashed in his eyes. Such a vulgar and unbearable foolish woman, luckily he wasn't bought by her, otherwise, what a headache it would've been.

Su Yaoguang walked past Xiao Yanci.

Xiao Yanci pursed his lips.

When Su Yaoguang brought Doctor Lin to her home, there were two sounds of crying in the courtyard, one from Grandma Su and another from Second Aunt Su.

"Where the hell is that wretched money-waster? Why hasn't she brought back Doctor Lin? If anything happens to my son, I'll kill her."

"Where is the sister-in-law? We're not done with today's matter yet. My husband came with good intentions to check on them, and they laid such a deadly hand on him."

A crowd had gathered at the entrance, eager for drama.

When they saw Su Yaoguang returning with Doctor Lin, they shouted to the people inside, "Yaoguang has brought Doctor Lin."

Grandma Su and Second Aunt Su both turned back, glaring with eyes like fierce beasts.

"You wretch, you've brought the doctor. Hurry and come in; do you want to see your Second Uncle bleed out?"

Doctor Lin, carrying his medical kit, followed Su Yaoguang inside. Just as he was about to start bandaging Uncle Su, Su Yaoguang stopped him.

"Yaoguang, didn't you bring me here to bandage your Second Uncle?"

"The bandaging needs to be done, but there's no rush," Su Yaoguang said. "Uncle Lin, please wait a moment."

"What are we waiting for?" Grandma Su stood up, reaching her withered claw towards Su Yaoguang's arm.

Su Yaoguang, no longer the foolish girl from before, dodged her grasp.

"There's no rush. I'm waiting for someone. Once they're here, we can start. "

"Waiting for whom? With Doctor Lin here, who else do you need?" scolded Second Aunt Su, "I think you're just rotten-hearted, watching your Second Uncle suffer on purpose."

"What happened?" The village chief walked in.

"The village chief is here," the outside villagers exclaimed in surprise.

Even the Su Family members hadn't expected that Su Yaoguang was waiting for the village chief.

Su Yaoguang smoothly knelt down, her defiant little face lifted upward, her eyes red, as if enduring overwhelming grievances.

"Uncle Li Zheng, please stand up for me."

The village chief frowned, "What is it?"

"Uncle Li Zheng, you might have heard about my family's situation. When my parents were newly married, the court drafted soldiers. New marriages usually aren't conscripted, but my grandma couldn't bear to see Second Uncle suffer, so she forced my dad to go in his place. He never returned. I'm my dad's only bloodline. Reasonably, they should've taken good care of us, but over the years, first, they took our land, then stole our vegetables and even forced my mom to pay respect money."

"I didn't call you here today for these old grievances. My grandma says I'm of marriageable age and wants to marry me off to my cousin's foolish son, who can't even take care of his own bodily functions. Of course, my mom wouldn't agree, so she scraped together some silver to buy me a husband to live with us. Today, both my mom and I went out, leaving only that weak husband at home. My Second Uncle tried to sell him to a brothel. Uncle Li Zheng, please seek justice for us."

"Is what she says true?" Uncle Li Zheng sharply turned his gaze to Grandma Su and the others.

"Village chief, it's not like that. I was just concerned about the girl and wanted to see what kind of person she bought. When I went to test him, that boy tried to kill me!"

Uncle Su pointed to his wounded area, loudly declaring his innocence.

"Look, this is the evidence."

Grandma Su slapped her thigh, crying out, "What sin have I committed? I was only thinking of her, and now she slanders me, this old woman!"

Second Aunt Su rubbed her tears, "With my brother not at home, we also feel for this widow and orphan. It was out of concern that we went to see what kind of live-in son-in-law she brought. If he was fine, why would he resort to violence? He doesn't look like a good person, perhaps a criminal. Village chief, think about it, we are all honest folks here. If suddenly there was a killer, how frightening would that be!"

Bam! A noise came from the direction of the firewood room.

Everyone turned towards the sound to see a boy, covered in wounds, with old bandages soaked once more with blood, standing shakily. He fell to the ground in weakness, his pale face full of fragility.

"No, it was him who tried to sell me to the brothel. I got scared and pushed him, and he fell, impaling himself on a piece of metal. I didn't harm him."

Su Yaoguang quickly went over to help Zhou Wangshu up.

Zhou Wangshu raised his exquisite, pitifully handsome face. As his eyes reddened, a red mole at the corner of his eye appeared like a teardrop of grievance.
