Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Clash Beneath the Storm

The wind howled across the ridges of the Whispering Peaks as dusk painted the sky in streaks of violet and gold.

Lin Feng walked along a narrow cliff path, each step steady and deliberate. The faint hum of lightning qi coiled beneath his skin — not wild now, but alive, pulsing with purpose.

The mountains were quiet. Too quiet.

They're watching again, Jin Jue murmured.

A hunter hides behind still air, Mo Xuan added. And the air here hasn't moved for half an hour.

Lin Feng stopped. His golden eyes swept the mist.

"Come out," he said softly. "You've followed me for three days. If you wanted to kill me, you've had time."

The silence stretched.

Then — a blur.

A figure stepped from the mist, robes fluttering like black flame, a faint blue aura coiling around their frame.

They were tall, elegant, with long hair bound in a silver clasp and eyes that shimmered like cold steel.

"Lin Feng," the man said, voice calm but sharp. "The heavens themselves trembled three nights ago. You split the storm — and my sect took notice."

Lin Feng's gaze didn't waver. "Scarlet Veil?"

The man inclined his head. "Elder Disciple Jiang Tianshu, peak of the Upper Foundation Realm. Sect Master Yue sent me — not to kill you, but to see if you are worth killing."

Lightning cracked in the clouds above, as if the heavens anticipated the clash.

Lin Feng loosened his shoulders. "Then test me."

The air ignited.

Jiang Tianshu's first strike came like a whisper — a blade of compressed qi slicing the air so fast it tore the mist apart. Lin Feng sidestepped, the edge grazing his sleeve before it carved a scar into the stone wall behind him.

Fast.

Efficient.

And bored, Mo Xuan noted. He's not fighting seriously yet.

Jiang's movements were refined, measured — a cultivator who had trained in perfection, not chaos. His strikes formed a rhythm, a deadly pattern that Lin Feng quickly began to read.

But Lin Feng's path was not rhythm.

It was improvisation.

He stepped forward, parrying with his gourd, the bronze ringing with every impact. Sparks danced between them. Lightning crackled at Lin Feng's fingertips, each motion gathering more qi.

Jiang's sword flashed again, arcs of blue energy slicing through the air. Lin Feng deflected, ducked, countered — until their strikes blurred into pure light.

The cliff beneath them began to crumble.

Jiang leapt back, sword glowing brighter. "Your qi is unstable," he said. "Three energies cannot coexist. You're living on borrowed time."

Lin Feng smirked. "Then I'll make time pay me back."

He raised his hand, lightning forming around it — golden and violent.

"Heavenrend Arc — Thunder Carved in Silence!"

The sky itself split open.

A silent crescent of light cut through the air, moving faster than sound.

Jiang's eyes widened — he barely had time to cross his arms before the force struck.

The impact hurled him backward across the ridge, crashing into a boulder that exploded in a spray of dust and stone.

When the smoke cleared, Jiang stood again, panting, sword trembling in his grip — but his aura flared higher.

His qi burned blue-white, sharper, denser.

He's suppressing pain with spiritual control, Jin Jue warned. That means he's getting serious.

Jiang's lips curved slightly. "Impressive. But my turn."

He raised his sword high, chanting under his breath.

Symbols of azure light flared into the sky, forming a glowing circle around him.

"Azure Tempest Formation — Seventh Veil Slash!"

The world howled.

Blue blades of energy erupted from the circle, streaking toward Lin Feng like a storm of swords. Each one carried enough force to shatter a mountain wall.

Lin Feng crossed his arms, lightning coiling around him like a barrier. The first blade struck — BOOM! — the ground erupted beneath his feet. He held firm.

The second struck, then the third, then ten more — until the entire ridge was consumed in blue and gold light.

For a moment, there was only chaos — explosions, thunder, and qi clashing in the air like divine wrath.

Then — silence.

Dust drifted down slowly.

When it cleared, Lin Feng stood in the center of a smoking crater. His robes were torn, blood dripping from his lip — but his eyes burned brighter than ever.

Lightning flickered behind him, shaping into the faint outline of wings.

He lifted his hand once more.

"I told you," he said softly. "Chaos isn't my enemy."

Then he moved — faster than before, body blurring into golden lightning.

His fist met Jiang's chest just as the latter tried to raise his sword.

The impact rippled through the air like a gong. The sword shattered.

Jiang was thrown backward, crashing into the cliffside — hard enough to leave a crater. His qi shattered like glass, the formation breaking apart instantly.

Lin Feng stood over him, breathing heavy but steady. His aura flared once — bright, controlled, and calm.

He's done it, Jin Jue whispered. A resonance stabilization.

Not just that, Mo Xuan said. He's breaking through again.

Lin Feng's body trembled as energy surged within him — fierce, unstoppable.

The three energies in his core aligned again, forming a single golden spiral that pulsed with perfect rhythm.

[Breakthrough Achieved: Upper Foundation Realm → Peak Foundation Realm]

Lightning erupted from his body in a blinding flash, rising into the clouds. Thunder rolled across the mountains, echoing his name in the wind.

When it faded, Lin Feng was gone — vanished into the mist, leaving Jiang Tianshu unconscious among shattered stone and silence.

Far away, in the Scarlet Veil Sect's main hall, Yue Qiuhan opened her eyes.

She had been meditating when the shockwave of Lin Feng's breakthrough brushed her senses — faint, yet powerful enough to disturb her equilibrium.

She smiled faintly.

"So… he's already grown this much."

Then her smile faded, and her tone grew cold.

"Send word to the Veiled Elders. It's time we meet Lin Feng — before the heavens choose him over us."
