Chapter 3 - The Devil listens...

After punching my face and kicking me to their heart's content, Marco and Jason left. Wicked smiles etched onto their faces.

*puh*

I spat a mouthful of blood from my mouth and used my sleeve to wipe blood running down my nose. My entire body hurt like hell, my abdomen was in a dire condition, those bastards had rained down kicks on my body like I was a mannequin.

But this wasn't even the worst part, the part that hurt the worst was my right calve. My black trouser had been ripped apart and I could see the damage they had done.

My right calve was completely burned, pretty much charred. It looked like it had been melted by a high temperature flame.

'Damn that Jason!'

I gritted my teeth, I knew Jason was responsible for this. His gift was the ability to manipulate flames. On the other hand, Marco had the ability to manipulate sound. Both these abilities were quite powerful, and they knew it.

Even in middle school they had been a perfect duo, one made soundproof domains and the other inflicted agony. No one could hear the victims until it was too late, thus they became a sight of revere.

I had changed my school just to get away from them because in the entire middle school I was their favorite target.

I gritted my teeth through the pain coursing my body and got up on my feet. Limping, I slowly walked forward, I had to reach my home as soon as possible.

After what felt like an eternity, I finally arrived in my quarters, my wounds had already stopped bleeding, but the flesh had turned purple.

With great effort, I took off my clothes and got the first aid kit. Cleaning my wounds with cotton, I then sprayed them with antiseptic. I also bandaged the wounds that looked too severe.

After hours of pushing myself through endless pain, I had finally patched myself up.

I wanted to visit a doctor, this first aid couldn't heal all my wounds, especially the one at my calve, but how could I? I could barely move; the hospital was too far away. I did not have any close relatives that would care enough to come and take me to a doctor. Neither did I have much money to call an ambulance. This was my life, lonesome and miserable.

'Sigh'

I sighed to myself, even through all this hardship, I did not feel angry, and I did not resent Marco and Jason nearly enough for what they had done to me.

Because I knew the truth of the world.

If you are strong, you are privileged! If you are strong, you can do anything, and no one has the right to tell you otherwise. Marco and Jason were stronger than me, and it was their privilege as the strong to inflict me with pain and suffering.

I knew if I were to suddenly get stronger, I would do worse to them than they had done to me.

That is how all humans are, always suppressing the weak and bending to the strong. This rule was especially true in the new world, a world full of awakened.

"Damn it, if only I could awaken! I would have put those two bastards in their place!" I yelled out loud in the silence of my house.

I had forgotten how many times I prayed to god, asking for an awakening. Yet my prayers fell on deaf ears, not once had my prayer been accepted.

'Maybe god doesn't even exist.' Thoughts bubbled in my mind.

"If god doesn't accept my prayers, then what about the devil?" I muttered under my breath.

Then realization dawned upon my eyes, it felt like an epiphany, an enlightenment!

'Maybe just maybe,' I thought.

"Please, devil, demon or whatever evil force there is. God has forsaken me, so please help me. I don't want to be mouth fed; I just want an opportunity. I-" my voice broke. "I- I would do anything, kill anyone, vampires? Humans? It doesn't matter. I would do anything just for a single chance, a chance to change my fate! I am tired of living this miserable life…"

.

Amidst Raizel's breakdown, a strange event unfolded in another place.

.

Deep in the ruins of a dark underground temple, a crimson stone lay buried under heaps of moss and vines. The crimson stone appeared to be a big ruby, the only difference was its humongous size and a mysterious red glow pulsing underneath its surface. The crimson energy in the stone pulsed, sending waves of power across the entire stone. The rhythmic pulsations were eerily similar to that of a heart!

The rock rested silently in the darkness when suddenly a vibration spread through the rock, in just a moment the vibration intensified. Then in the blink of an eye, a crack spread across the rock's surface, splitting it exactly in half.

*WOOSH*

A gust of wind instantaneously swept across the entire hidden temple shaking the entire structure.

Moments later, the wind subsided. However, half of the crimson rock had gone missing…

.

Raizel muttered something under his breath, he no longer looked sane. His blue eyes had lost their shimmer, perhaps due to being excessively wounded or due to his hope slowly dying.

[DING]

Suddenly a voice resounded in Raizel's head, he jumped around in fright. "Huh, what was tha-"

However, before he could even complete his sentence, he felt a terrible pain assault his chest.

Clutching his chest, a look of disbelief overtook him. His heart had stopped beating!

'Did the devil take my heart? What a joke of a life this was.' He could only think this before collapsing on the floor, a pained smile prevalent on his face.
