Chapter 4 - Alchemy of souls

King Darius:

Vanya carefully opened an ancient spellbook, its pages worn and aged.

Beside it lay a small box filled with shimmering soul stones.

She lifted one out, its glow pulsing faintly in her palm, and began to chant the incantations written in the book.

Prince Aziel's confusion grew as he watched his father speak in low, urgent tones with Vanya.

"What do you mean by Alchemy of Souls? What's going on, Father?" Aziel asked, his voice tight.

His father's eyes gleamed with cunning. "You'll see soon enough, my son. You'll be fine," he said smoothly. But the words offered no comfort.

Aziel's instincts screamed danger.

He tried to step back, to flee down the hidden tunnels, but before he could move far, Vanya had raised her hands and whispered something in an ancient tongue. A strange calm washed over him, heavy and binding, as though invisible chains held him in place.

His heart raced, his chest tightened. He could feel his Chi,his energy, being drawn toward the circle that Vanya had already prepared. The sacred alchemy circle glimmered faintly on the floor, etched in shimmering dust, and a Soul Stone pulsed with blue light in its center.

"Father… what are you doing?" Aziel gasped, trying to pull his hands away, but the calm was overwhelming. Every muscle refused to obey him.

Vanya's voice rose in a chant. "As above, so below, as within, so without. Let the souls cross the veil and find new form."

The air inside the tomb thickened. Aziel's vision blurred as he saw his own soul, a pale, trembling light, being tugged from his body. He struggled, panicked, but the pull was irresistible. Pain shot through his chest, as if every nerve in his body was being rewired, and he gasped, shaking against the invisible hold.

The king stepped closer, watching intently, "Relax, my son," he murmured, his voice low and sinister. "It's only temporary… I'm borrowing your body for something important."

Aziel's body convulsed as the blue light of the Soul Stone surged brighter. He felt another presence enter his mind, firm, commanding, his father's consciousness. The king's soul, ancient and powerful, pushed against him, until suddenly…

The switch happened.

Aziel's mind reeled as he realized he was no longer in control of his body but his father's. He could feel the weight and weakness of his father's old, frail body, the muscles stiff and untrained, the bones aching. Meanwhile, his father's consciousness filled Aziel's strong, young body, powerful and commanding.

The king ran his fingers over the contours of his new, youthful face, marveling at the smoothness, at the strength coiled within every muscle. His laughter, low and resonant, echoed through the dimly lit underground tomb, bouncing off the stone wall.

"So… this is the body of my son," he murmured, tilting his head, flexing fingers he had never felt before. "Ah… the youthfulness, the vigor… it's intoxicating."

Aziel, trapped in his father's feeble frame, tried to lift himself, but his arms shook violently, refusing to obey. His breaths came in shallow, ragged gasps.

Every movement was an ordeal, his legs wobbled like reeds in a storm, his back arched painfully.

"Father… no… this isn't right…" His voice cracked, weak and trembling, sounding alien even to himself. He tried to reach out, to grab his father, now inhabiting his body, but his arms felt like lead, and his fingers fumbled uselessly in the air.

The king's eyes gleamed with cruel delight as he stepped closer, towering over Aziel in the young, commanding body that now housed his consciousness. He laughed, a slow, deliberate sound, like a predator savoring its prey.

"My dear boy…" the king purred, circling him. "Do you know why I have done this? Do you understand the purpose behind this?"

"I… I don't understand…" Aziel coughed violently, the sound rough. "Please… give me back… my body…"

The king's smile widened. "Oh, you will understand soon enough. I have spent my entire life… searching. Searching for the ultimate power. The Divine Relic,The Ice stone. You think all those years were for trivial conquest? For fleeting riches? No, my son… I sought immortality. I sought mastery over life itself!"

Aziel tried to speak, to argue, to reach some shred of reason, but every attempt was met with excruciating weakness. The king leaned closer, and whispered into Aziel's ear, his voice filled with menace.

"My old, frail body begins to betray me… aches, weaknesses… the ticking of the mortal clock. But now," he flexed his new, powerful arms, "I am unbound by time. I am strong. I am eternal… and you…" His fingers brushed Aziel's shoulders.

"Do… not… touch me!" Aziel gasped, tears pricking at his eyes, from the shock of being utterly powerless.

"Don't worry, my boy," the king said, crouching slightly to peer into his son's defeated gaze. "I'm merely borrowing your vessel. You must endure, survive, and watch… watch as I achieve what mortals dare not dream." He stood upright again, stretching his limbs, feeling the raw strength, the Chi coursing in ways he had only ever imagined. "Ah… the sensation of true power. Sweet, sweet, intoxicating."

Aziel shivered, his mind spinning in panic. He had always trained to harness his Chi, had pushed himself to master the arts of an Arcanist. But now, trapped in this feeble shell, every skill, every trick, every ounce of training was useless. He tried to draw even a spark of energy, but it fizzled out, weak and pathetic. His body was betraying him as completely as his mind.

"You see, my son…" the king continued, pacing, eyes glinting with mania, "this body, it's not merely flesh. It's a key. A vessel to unlock what is rightfully mine. And with it, I will claim the relic. I will defy death itself! And you… you will witness everything."

Aziel tried to scramble backward in fear.

The king laughed, "I have to admit, I never imagined it would be so… deliciously satisfying. To feel this type of strength flow in me again,The youthfullness….This is a gift, a blessing! Mortality, weakness… all illusions. I am free from them now."

Aziel's mind screamed, trying to summon his energy, his skill, anything, but the body refused. Every attempt only left him gasping, coughing, wheezing.

Vanya exhaled slowly,"The ritual is complete," she said. "I believe my work here is done. Remember your promise, my King. The Ice Stone, the Divine Relic, belongs to me once you find it."

The King turned to her, eyes glowing with cruel amusement. "Promise?" he echoed, chuckling. The sound was sharp and jagged."You st*pid woman… You actually believed I would share that power with you? The Ice Stone belongs to me,only me."

Her expression hardened, fury flickering in her eyes. "Be careful," she warned softly,"You have no idea what mistake you are about to make."

But the King only sneered. "Mistake? No. Victory. Look at me!" He stretched out his arms, admiring the strength in his new body. "This is the prime of youth. The vigor of life. What can an old witch do to me now?"

He turned toward Dax, his most loyal guard. "Seize her. Kill her."

He stepped forward, blade half-drawn.

Vanya smiled faintly, "You truly are a f*ol," she whispered.

Before Dax could take another step, she lifted her hand and murmured words, The runes on the ground flared back to life, glowing blue, then white, then vanishing in a burst of smoke.

A gust of icy wind tore through the chamber. The torches went out one by one.

"Find her!" the King shouted, coughing as the smoke thickened.
