Their hallmark are the Valkyrions, soliders given the gift of the Shadow, a power stranded from Nirvana and harnessed by humanity. Seraphine is a Valkyrion of great respect, but when a mission leaves her stranded amongst the people of Yuska, she discovers the truth behind Herald and their true motivation. Now she must do what is right, or atone for her sins with her sacrifice.

Chapter 1 - Pierce the Heavens - 1

Seraphine watched the rain fall as the blood dripped from her wound. Gabriel had landed a hard blow to her face, her left eye was lucky to have survived the slash. The cut ran deep though, she could feel it throbbing, stinging, screaming at her. It hurt. Not because of the weapon used or the placement of the wound, but because of who dealt it. She stared at her second, her Luitenant, her right hand man, the person she could trust wholely, and she saw not a reassuring gaze or a contemplative stare but bloodlust. Hatred. Anger. Sadness.

"You don't have to do this Gabriel! Herald are twisted, they're sick bastards with nothing but money and ambition! They want the war Gabriel! They aren't trying to prevent it they're trying to cause it!"

Gabriel stood. And stared.

"You have to listen to me Gabriel, please! Look at what they've done! Look at how they make us operate! Can't you see? I didn't see it at first either but you have to open your eyes Gabriel! You have to acknowledge their corruption!"

Gabriel's stare finally changed. It was something she had never seen before, somewhere between sadness and disappointment, almost like he knew something she didn't.

"Say something! Fucking anything will do just- I need to hear you at least say you get what I'm telling you!"

"... It took you this long to figure it out?"

That's when it clicked.

That look was pity. Everyone knew. She was the only person who took until now to realise the masters she had served were the wrong ones.

He knew.

The whole time. He knew.

Her grip on her sword became iron and she faded at him, rage in her eyes she swung at him. The man who knew everything and never told her what she was fighting for.
