Chapter 154 - Spectator

When seeing Detective Henry off, considering his mood, Lex didn't say, 'Have a pleasant evening,' as that would have been too much of a jerk thing to say.

He himself was also in a gloomy mood.

Another person had indirectly died because of him.

Although he hadn't killed the person, he still felt bad.

And this feeling had also appeared a few days ago when it was confirmed that Grizzly and the other person had indeed died because of their connection to him.

Is this the price of entering the mystical world?

Lex let out a long breath and, after a self-adjustment, his gaze fell on the items Henry had left behind.

A work diary.

He picked up the diary with its dark red leather cover and opened it. Inside were Robin's work records from the previous month; before accepting Lex's commission, he had also collected evidence of a gentleman's husband's extramarital affair for a lady, and found a dog that had been missing for three days for a single elderly woman.

Lex flipped past the unimportant records until he saw the name 'Sandy,' and then he stopped.

Regarding Sandy's commission records, the first few pages contained information Lex already knew, which Robin had reported to him earlier.

The following pages began with the investigation into Sandy's resignation.

'Today I met with Sandy's mistress, Miss Jenny from the Horse Riding Club. Through her, a gentleman entered my line of sight.'

'Hudson Knoll, he is a member of the Horse Riding Club and has been a member for a year. Miss Jenny provided a lot of useful information, for example, Mr. Hudson is a wine merchant, he lives in the Golden Banyan District, he is very active in the club, and has earned the respect of many members due to his excellent horsemanship.'

'Among Hudson's friends are even bankers, city councilors, and he also knows Sir Deville. He is definitely a heavyweight.'

'According to Miss Jenny's description, I learned a very important thing. Before his accident, about two to three weeks ago, Mr. Sandy seemed to have offended Mr. Hudson.'

'He only mentioned this to Miss Jenny. This Miss said that Sandy was extremely scared at the time, and didn't even feel like doing some pleasant things with her.'

'And the next day, he submitted his resignation to the club. Miss Jenny even argued with him about this. Strangely, a few days later, Sandy proactively asked for his resignation back and declared that the matter had been resolved.'

Here, Robin drew a big question mark, indicating that the Detective had great doubts about Sandy's change and how the matter was resolved.

'It seems Sandy's death has a lot to do with this Hudson. I must investigate him.'

'Coincidentally, Miss Jenny told me that tomorrow the club is holding an equestrian competition at the suburban stable, and Hudson will also participate. This kind Miss even gave me an admission ticket and told me that she is very afraid of that Hudson.'

Next was a large blank space.

Lex directly turned to the next page.

The handwriting here, whether due to nervousness or some other reason, was not as steady as before. It appeared sloppy and uneven.

'Miss Jenny was indeed right, this Mr. Hudson is very frightening. Today, I disguised myself as a reporter and went to the stable, and when I found an opportunity to interview him.'

'His first words were, 'You are not a reporter, you are here to investigate me, are you a Detective?''

'He seemed to be able to see through my thoughts, to read what was on my mind!'

'I could only find an excuse to leave. As I left, I always felt as if a pair of eyes were watching me.'

'Hudson!'

'I've decided to give up. This is the worst situation I've ever encountered in my career. Moreover, I'm going back to Awwa County. I feel like I'm being watched.'

'The client was indeed right, this matter is very dangerous, and I overestimated my abilities.'

'Hmm, I need to make some arrangements, just in case.'

'I will definitely be fine!'

These were the last words Robin wrote in his work diary.

Lex closed the diary and shut his eyes.

"See through thoughts, read what's on one's mind..."

"I remember the Sequence 8 potion of the Spectator pathway is called Telepathist. Could it be that Hudson is a Beyonder?"

"If that's the case, with the abilities of a Telepathist, it wouldn't be difficult to befriend a figure like Sir Deville."

"Hudson also knows bankers and city councilors? It seems he wants to start a certain 'enterprise' in Tingen, which is why he approached these upper-class figures through the club and then used his Beyonder abilities to become their good friend."

Lex suddenly opened his eyes.

"Wait!"

He suddenly looked at the work diary: "If the other party is a Telepathist, there's no reason he wouldn't know what Robin was thinking, no reason he wouldn't know that Robin gave the work diary to Henry."

"Did he do this on purpose? To find the employer who commissioned Robin to investigate Sandy?"

"He's looking for me!"

Just then, there was a knock at the door. Lex hadn't even gotten up when a needle-like pain suddenly pricked the back of his hand, and at the same time, a vision appeared in his mind.

When he opened the door, a middle-aged man stood outside. His skin was already loose, the lines at the corners of his eyes were deep and shallow, and his formal suit was stretched open by his bloated waist.

He had a gray beard, which made him look even more imposing.

The man was biting a pipe with a gold inlay. He took a puff from the mouthpiece, then opened his mouth and exhaled a puff of hazy smoke towards him.

Lex's back muscles instantly tensed. He knew who the other party was! He had encountered this person, and more than once!

Without answering, Lex used his Hunter's agility to silently leave from the back of the house. But he didn't go far. After climbing over the wall, he quickly circled a few houses and then appeared on the roof of the third house away, looking towards the front door of his safe house.

Because of the porch, Lex couldn't see anything. But a moment later, someone walked out.

It was indeed the man with the gray beard. Lex had run into him in the restaurant where he met with the banker McGovern, and had also seen him with Sir Deville in the club's lobby.

This suggests that Councilor Maynard might also know him.

At this moment, the man named Hudson had already crossed the street, pressing down on his top hat, and left discreetly.

He did not take a carriage.

This is an opportunity!

Lex immediately followed him. A Hunter possesses excellent tracking skills, and moreover, the man was still wearing 'Blue' perfume tonight.

Although it was already the base note and the scent wasn't strong, it still lingered in the air, guiding Lex's path.

Therefore, Lex didn't follow too closely, to avoid being detected by the other party.

Along the way, Lex's thoughts constantly surfaced like bubbles.

"In the intuitive vision just now, Hudson blew a puff of smoke at me. Is that related to the spiritual smoke coughed out by Councilor Maynard and the others?"
