Chapter 175 - Street Fighting

On wednesday evening, Lex bought two days' worth of food and pushed open the door to Seer Kaven's house on Black Palm Street. He saw the Seer, dressed in a classical black robe today and looking very much like a charlatan, searching for something.

"What are you doing?" Lex placed the food on the table, reminiscing about refrigerators. If this world had refrigerators, he wouldn't have to risk going out to buy food.

"Blue, my cat!"

Kaven said anxiously, "I can't find it. I just went back to the bedroom to get something, and it was gone."

"It might have run outside. No, I have to go look for it, what if it's lost..."

Without thinking, Lex grabbed the Seer, who was about to run out: "Perhaps you forgot, someone out there is looking for you. Besides, it's just a cat, if it's lost, it's lost."

"No!"

Kaven said sternly, "It's not just a cat, it's my only family!"

Lex paused, then said, "Sorry, I didn't know it was so important to you. But aren't you a Seer? You can divine about your cat. No, Blue."

"See if it's in danger, and if it will come back. In any case, it's better not to go out unless absolutely necessary."

Kaven nodded, choosing to follow his bodyguard's advice. He pulled out a golden sun pendant from his collar and performed a divination using the pendulum method.

Lex, meanwhile, placed the food, the newspaper he'd bought, and other items on the table.

Soon, he heard Kaven let out a sigh of relief and asked, "What's the result?"

A smile appeared on Kaven's face: "It will come back."

Lex unfolded the newspaper, reading as he spoke: "That's good. Also, your divination won't have any problems, right? You said you'd encounter danger on wednesday, and it's almost evening now."

Kaven suddenly snatched the newspaper from his hand, looked at the date, and then nodded calmly: "There's no mistake, I used Dream Divination. In the dream, I saw this newspaper and remembered the date September 12th, but I didn't know the exact time."

"We can receive enlightenment from fate, but we can never clearly see the truth of fate."

The Seer uttered a very charlatan-like remark.

Lex spread his hands: "Then you don't have to snatch my newspaper..."

Suddenly, Lex's spiritual intuition was stirred. He almost instinctively lunged at the Seer. Just as he tackled Kaven to the ground, he heard gunshots, shouts, and the sound of breaking windows from outside the street!

Then, with a whoosh, something was thrown in through the broken window. While still on the ground, Lex already saw that it was a bundle of dynamite!

Without even a curse, Lex pulled Kaven up and rushed into the adjacent bedroom.

The bundle of dynamite landed on the ground, its fuse just burning out. Instantly, a flash of fire erupted in the living room, followed by a loud boom. Crimson flames surged out, smashing through windows. After a brief dance, the tongues of fire receded.

The Seer's living room was a mess, with huge cracks appearing in the walls and countless debris falling from the ceiling. The brick and stone house was shaking, on the verge of collapse.

In the bedroom, Lex pushed aside the debris pressing down on them and dragged out the Seer, who was coughing repeatedly from the smoke and dust.

"Quick, get out of here."

Lex was now grateful that this world didn't have grenades, and detonating dynamite required a burning fuse, which bought him a little time.

Otherwise, he might have been fine, but Kaven would have been in trouble.

Coming to the window, Lex was about to climb out. Suddenly, a needle-like pain appeared on the back of his hand, followed by a scene in his mind: as he climbed out the window, a grim-faced man with soft, light-yellow hair shot him in the alley.

Lex still climbed out the window and quickly glanced to the left side of the alley. Sure enough, a man stood there, his soft, light-yellow hair plastered to his forehead. With a grim expression, he raised his pistol, slightly lowered his elbow, and fired steadily.

Bang bang bang—

Three consecutive shots all hit Lex. But this Lex quickly flattened, tearing like paper under the bullets.

Lex, appearing from another part of the alley, had already drawn Blood Praise, pointed it at the man's head, and fired!

The man with the soft, light-yellow hair didn't look back. His eyes suddenly darkened deeply. The bullet heading for his head suddenly curved, hitting a wooden crate placed nearby, leaving a teacup-sized gap in the crate.

Lex was startled. What kind of ability was this? Without thinking, he continuously emptied the bullets in his gun at the opponent. Three or four bullets in succession curved and went astray. The man had already gained time to hide behind a pile of debris.

He crouched behind the debris serving as cover, took a breath, and said in a slightly strange accent, "Don't meddle!"

His response was several burning matchboxes, which landed in different corners of the alley, one of them right in front of the man.

Suddenly, the flames in the box in front shot up. A figure leaped out of the flames. The man immediately grabbed a dirty, tattered rag doll next to him and threw it over.

Lex felt inexplicably confused, but still turned his head to avoid it. At the same time, he poured his spirituality into the ring of distortion, instantly activating 'Mental Confusion'.

At the same time, he raised his hand and fired.

The man, who had already made an evasive move after throwing the rag doll, successfully made one bullet curve and go astray, but then he suddenly became clumsy.

He uncontrollably retreated, wanting to raise his gun to force Lex back, but instead threw his revolver to the ground. Just as he looked comically ridiculous like a clown, Lex had already closed in, firing the remaining few bullets at close range towards his opponent.

This time, only one bullet curved strangely; the other two hit the opponent. The mystic abilities they carried, 'Cursed Bloodfire' and 'Massive Bleeding', took effect. The man's shoulder was burning with a bloody flame, and his right hand was bleeding profusely.

He raised his hand, seemingly wanting to cast some ability on Lex, but his arm didn't lift. His mind was in a mess, his attention couldn't focus, and massive blood loss made him feel weak all over. So, he could only watch as Lex pulled out another golden revolver and pointed it at him.

Bang!

After the gunshot, a messy picture of blood red and white instantly appeared on the wall.

After checking for a pulse and confirming the man was dead, Lex finally breathed a sigh of relief. He quickly put away his revolver and searched the alley, collecting each bullet casing to prevent them from falling into the hands of officials, who might use divination or other means to obtain his information.

Kaven climbed out of the window, looking at the man lying on the ground with a bullet hole in his forehead, and said with lingering fear: "Good thing I hired you, Mr. Bodyguard. Otherwise, it might be me lying on the ground right now."

After recovering all the bullet casings, Lex went back into the house, retrieved his belongings, and then said: "Don't thank me yet, we need to leave quickly, and we also need to get rid of this corpse first, to prevent him from being used for spirit channeling."

The Seer immediately said: "I know a place we can go."

Just then, a cat meow sounded. Kaven's Blue cat jumped down from the other side of the wall and came to his side.

Picking it up, Kaven rubbed its head: "Fate truly did not deceive me."
