Chapter 348 - A Little Difficulty

Seeing Danitz's expression grow increasingly sour, Lex finally said, "I was lying to you about the 'Spirit Medium' thing."

Danitz breathed a sigh of relief, then glared fiercely at Lex: "Are you still a child, doing such childish things!"

"Childish?"

Lex cleared his throat, mimicking Danitz's tone from last night: "Come on, maybe you can catch me, but you won't get me to reveal the Golden Dream, or the Captain, not even a single piece of information!"

Then, he smiled: "If Ms. Edwina heard that, she'd probably be very touched."

Danitz's expression instantly stiffened, then he cried out: "Shit, if you dare to say that, I'll fight you to the death!"

I can already imagine that if the guys on the ship knew about this, they'd mock me for a month, maybe even a year! Cold sweat broke out on Danitz's face; even when he was captured by Marco yesterday, he wasn't this nervous.

"If you want me not to tell, that's fine. Cooperate with me on the ship, and when it's time to take sides, stand with me," Lex said with a full smile.

Danitz was stunned for a moment: "I already said I would before."

"That's not the same."

"Before, you were willing; you intended to do it of your own free will, which means you could go back on your word at any time."

"But now it's different. I have leverage over you. Whether you want to or not, you need to cooperate with me."

Lex closed his eyes, took a breath: "I prefer to keep things as much as possible under my control."

Danitz's mouth twitched slightly.

"Let's go."

Lex opened the door and said, "You can rest and recover. I just came back from Sea Wave Cathedral and wasn't followed."

After speaking, he closed the door, and his footsteps gradually faded away.

It took Danitz a while to understand Lex's meaning. Lex had returned from Sea Wave Cathedral without being followed, indicating that the Storm Church trusted him and wouldn't secretly search for him in the city.

"Shit, why can't he just speak clearly, always leaving me to figure things out!" Danitz pressed his temples, feeling that spending the last two days with Lex had cost him a lot of energy.

Lex walked out of the inn, stood by the roadside, and prepared to hail a carriage to return to his own inn.

Suddenly, he heard a knocking sound from inside the inn's main door, a faint, unreal knocking sound.

Osweld's messenger arrived?

Lex frowned. This was not a good place to meet it. He pulled down his hat, pretending not to hear, and walked towards another intersection.

But.

The knocking sound continued all the way.

It echoed in the perfume shop he passed, in the carriage doors he went by, and behind anything that embodied the concept of a 'door'.

Helpless, Lex had no choice but to whisper, "Wait a moment, we can't meet here."

The knocking sound stopped abruptly.

Only then did Lex hail a carriage and return to the 'Azure Wind' Inn. Back in his room, he took off his cloak, opened the window, and then looked towards the door: "Please come in."

A gleaming leather shoe stepped out from the wooden door of the room, followed by deep black trousers, then an arm wearing a white glove, and finally, a well-dressed but headless messenger, with only air above its neck, walked in.

It placed its hand on its chest, bowed to Lex, and then took out a letter, placing it on the table.

It didn't forget to smooth over the envelope, flattening the non-existent creases.

After the messenger had moved back a little, Lex cut open the envelope, took out the letter inside, and began to read it.

'Duke, the three people you asked me to investigate are now initially identified. I must say, this is not a simple task, as these are figures from two hundred years ago, and even for me, the investigation presents a slight difficulty.'

'Hmm, a slight difficulty.'

'The three people you listed in your letter, because of the clue about landing at Damir Port, allowed me to save a lot of time in my investigation and filter out many ambiguous pieces of information.'

'What I've learned so far is that Mr. Ralph Thain suffered from severe pneumonia not long after coming ashore, which may be related to his physical constitution and having been immersed in cold seawater.'

'Unfortunately, this gentleman passed away from pneumonia within three years of returning to Intis. I found his death report in a hospital in Intis, and this gentleman never started a family or had any descendants, so now there is absolutely no information about him to be found.'

'As for the other two, Celis Newman and Jane Britney, they both started families and their Bloodlines continued. I have already sent people to investigate, however, if you wish to obtain information about these two, you will need to exchange contribution points.'

'If you are certain you want their information, then please send me a reply.'

'Additionally, last week, I sent an investigator to Windmill Island, but this person disappeared. Therefore, I suspect there is an anomaly on the island, and unless absolutely necessary, you should not visit Windmill Island again in the short term.'

The letter was signed with Osweld's elegant signature.

After Lex finished reading the letter, he immediately took out a piece of paper, confirmed with Osweld, that old fox, that he needed information about the other two people, then gave it to the messenger, and watched it retreat back into the door and disappear.

After the messenger left, Lex gently tapped the table with his fingers: "There's still an anomaly on Windmill Island? Osweld must have known I dealt with the High Priest on the island to send an investigator there. He thought Windmill Island was safe, but now it seems that's not the case."

"So, a new High Priest has appeared on that island?"

Lex shook his head, thinking that he wouldn't be going to Windmill Island again in the short term anyway, so he put the matter aside for now.

Furthermore, of the three people provided by the writer Trollope, Ralph Thain died of pneumonia not long after landing at Damir Port. He never started a family or had descendants, so it can basically be confirmed that he is unrelated to Mania's child on the black star.

Otherwise, with Osweld's ability, he should have found some clues, instead of having no information at all like this.

Now, they could only wait to see when Osweld would find information about Celis Newman and Jane Britney. Fortunately, their Bloodlines continued to this day; as long as their descendants were found, perhaps clues about Mania's child could be uncovered.

Lex also thought that he would be boarding the Golden Dream tomorrow, and it was time to say goodbye to the Medic.

So, he took out the glass bottle containing the Medic's hair.

...

In the afternoon, on the sea outside Blue Mountain Island, many fishing boats were at work.

The fisherman Ali vigorously cast a fishing net into the sea. The sun shone on his young face, and today's catch was good, filling Ali's face with smiles.

Just then, he saw something floating on the distant sea, being carried by the seawater towards his fishing boat.

Ali shielded his eyes from the sun with his hand, and suddenly saw a woman floating on the surface of the sea.
