When Lex saw Tracy, his expression changed slightly. The scene Christie showed him immediately made him think of one thing: there was an inside man on the Golden Dream!
Clearly, the pirate with the yellowish-brown beard was Admiral of Ailment's mole on the Golden Dream.
Lex immediately wanted to rush out to find Edwina and tell her what he had discovered, but he remained motionless in his chair. The thought had barely arisen before he suppressed it.
He was no longer the novice Beyonder he once was; he could now control his impulses quite well, so he remained seated, continuing to look at the oil painting.
At this moment, some text appeared above the pirate's head in the oil painting, like dialogue in a comic book.
Lex saw the pirate say to Tracy in the mirror: "Beautiful Miss, we have already left Sonia Island. I heard that starting monday, we will be searching for the death god's treasure."
The text faded, and new text formed: "Yes, Treasure Trove, that's what they said. Our nearly week-long stop at Yedgar Island also seemed to be for obtaining crucial clues pointing to the Treasure Trove's location."
The last sentence was: "Alright, I will continue to keep an eye out. If there are any new developments, I will notify you. Thank you for being willing to talk to me. You are my angel, my sunshine."
After ending the cryptic communication with Tracy, the pirate with the yellowish-brown beard quickly put away the box containing the black paste, placing it, along with the mirror, into a larger box.
Then he pushed aside a table and opened several floorboards beneath it, revealing a hidden compartment.
The pirate hid the box in the compartment, then reset the wooden boards and the table, clapped his hands, stood up, and left the room.
This was the last scene Christie displayed.
After watching it, Lex exhaled and then considered how to handle the matter: "I definitely need to inform the Captain, that's for sure."
"Now Admiral of Ailment knows the Golden Dream is looking for the death god's treasure. When we have made some progress and are ready to return, there's a high probability he will jump out and interfere."
"If I know but don't report it, there's absolutely no benefit for me."
Lex opened his pocket watch, signaling Christie to return and restoring the oil painting to its original state.
"But it's inconvenient for me to be the messenger. I can't explain my source of information, and I don't want to expose Christie's existence yet."
"Furthermore, I've just joined the Golden Dream. In terms of trust, I don't think Edwina would completely believe me."
"Additionally..."
Lex organized his thoughts and gradually found a direction, his eyes brightening: "This might be a good opportunity to act as a Conspirer."
"I can try to manipulate this matter from the shadows, find a way to set a trap for Admiral of Ailment, and cause Tracy to suffer losses. If feedback comes from a Sequence 5 Beyonder, the digestion process of the potion should make significant progress."
"So, I should try my best to remain behind the scenes. Based on the Conspirer's acting principles, I must avoid appearing in this incident myself."
"I need a mouthpiece."
"I have it."
At dinner time, the pirate mess hall was lively. Lex put some pork sausages, a few slices of potato bread, a cup of yogurt, two grilled fish, and a serving of lettuce onto his plate, then went to Danitz's table.
Many pirates had gathered around Danitz, listening to him animatedly describe the previous night's battle: "...We approached the Black Crow Pirate Group under the cover of night, stealthily. Those fools didn't know disaster was coming and were still drinking on deck..."
"Without a word, I threw a fireball, and guess what happened? Bang! I almost blew their pirate ship in half. At that time, I don't know how many pirates on board were so scared they wet their pants..."
Lex quietly sat down beside him, looking at Danitz with a half-smile: "So your fireballs are that powerful. Next time, you must let all of us witness it."
"Bullshit, you don't believe me, do you, I..." Danitz was about to utter a threat, but then he saw it was Lex, and remembering that the 'hydrogen cylinder' that night was sponsored by Lex, his threat turned into, "You, if you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do."
He was worried that the pirates, influenced by Lex, would actually ask him to demonstrate how to sink an enemy ship with a single fireball, so he immediately shooed away the surrounding pirates: "Go on, go on, I'm going to eat."
The pirates scattered, preventing Danitz's bragging from being exposed.
Lex then quietly said to Danitz: "Do you want the Captain to look at you differently?"
Whoosh whoosh whoosh—
Not only Danitz, but even Barrel, with his bulging waist, and Iron Skin, with his dark skin, looked over. They had all taken a sip of beer, but hearing Lex's words, they temporarily forgot to swallow.
Lex said nonchalantly: "So you all like her."
Pfft pfft pfft—
Three golden rainbows appeared in the mess hall.
"No, we just respect the Captain, so we hope to leave a good impression on her. Don't you agree?" Danitz's mind worked quickly; he immediately covered up, not forgetting to drag Barrel and Iron Skin into it. "
"Yes, yes, yes." The two pirates, in an effort to cover up, hastily stood on the same side as Danitz.
"It doesn't matter, whether it's liking or respecting, in short, if you want to earn merit, listen to me." Lex put a pork sausage in his bread, added lettuce, spread yogurt on it, and then put it all into his mouth.
Danitz immediately put down his glass: "Tell us, we're listening."
Lex chewed his food while describing: "There's a fellow on this ship, his beard is yellowish-brown, he..."
After briefly describing the pirate's appearance, Lex said: "Does anyone here know him?"
Danitz looked confused: "I don't remember anyone like that on the ship."
"No, there is indeed such a person on the ship." Barrel's voice was slightly high-pitched, though he did try to keep it low. "He was recruited when we docked at Yedgar. Several others came aboard with him at that time, and they all work in the kitchen."
At this point, Barrel looked towards the kitchen at the back of the mess hall. Just then, a pirate pushing a dining cart came out; he was wearing a tall chef's hat and had a yellowish-brown beard.
Lex glanced at him, then lowered his head and whispered: "That's him. From now on, no matter what you hear, don't make a sound, don't look up, don't look at him."
"If you can't do that, it will only put the Captain and the Golden Dream in danger."
Hearing him speak so seriously, Danitz glared at Barrel and Iron Skin: "Did you hear that?"
The two pirates nodded repeatedly.
Danitz then said: "Alright, Rayleigh, you can speak."
Lex cut a piece of grilled fish, brought it to his mouth, and whispered: "He is Admiral of Ailment's inside man on the ship. He must have contacted Tracy these past two days. He reported to that lady that we will begin searching for the death god's treasure tomorrow."
Danitz and the other two's eyes widened instantly, surprise flashing through them, followed by anger. If Lex hadn't told them to restrain themselves, they would have rushed out and beaten that fellow to the ground by now.
