Calm down, calm down
Toria could already sense the growing murderous intent from the Turner's Family. If she barged in now, it would only escalate the situation, making them more determined to eliminate her.
Though the Turner's Family wasn't as powerful as the Carter's Family, killing her wouldn't be difficult for them.
Moreover, her foster parents were still alive. If anything happened to her, what would become of them?
Such cruel hearts they had!
Toria clenched her fists, her eyes reddening with anger. But she took a deep breath, suppressing her overwhelming fury, and turned to go downstairs.
After sitting on the couch for a while, Grace and Chloe came down the stairs.
"Toria, it's impossible for us to give you ten million, but after discussing with my parents, we've decided to give you this amount.
However, you must transfer the delivery business backend to me and leave New Orleans with your foster parents," Chloe said arrogantly, placing a check in front of Toria.
Toria glanced at the check, which was for a million dollars.
She slowly lifted her gaze, her eyes filled with furious intensity as she stared at Chloe, then turned to Grace, her lips curling into a cold smile.
"A million dollars to trade for the title of the Carter family's young madam? Spoken like a true businesswoman. You've certainly run the numbers."
"Don't be ungrateful. This million is more than you and your foster parents could earn in two lifetimes," Chloe snapped, her voice filled with frustration.
"Whether my parents can earn it or not is none of your concern. But one thing I do know I can make sure you never become the Carter Family's young madam!" Toria retorted coldly.
"You... you're greedy!" Grace shook her head, her face full of disdain. "How could I, Grace, have given birth to such a daughter? You are a disgrace to me."
"Toria, my mom is willing to offer you two million dollars."
"Two million is acceptable, but I can only change the backend of the delivery app to your control."
"No way, you must leave New Orleans !"
"If that's your stance, then there's nothing more to discuss." Without another word, Toria turned to leave.
Seeing that she was really about to go, Chloe panicked and quickly said, "Alright, I agree."
With her plan succeeding, Toria showed no sign of joy.
"I don't want a check. I want you to transfer the money to my account and write a statement saying it's compensation for my bone marrow donation to Ronald Turner".
Toria was well aware of their tricks.
Once the money was transferred to her account, Chloe would take control of the delivery app's backend and change the personal information.
The next day, they would report to the police, claiming they had mistakenly transferred two million dollars.
The police would then immediately demand that she return the two million dollars.
By then, wouldn't she be left with nothing?
"You're really pushing it," Grace couldn't hold back any longer.
Toria's cold face broke into a frosty smile. "If you don't want to, I won't force you."
"Let it go, Mom. Let's just do it for now!"
For the sake of her lifelong happiness, Chloe had no choice but to endure.
Toria sat calmly in the Turner's Family residence, waiting for them to transfer the money and sign a compensation agreement.
Once everything was settled, she handed over the food delivery app to Chloe, who immediately updated the backend personal information.
The food delivery order from that day had never reached the customer, so the backend information couldn't definitively prove that Toria had saved Leo.
At most, it would raise suspicions within the Carter Family. After all, the hospital records listed Chloe Turner's name, the surveillance footage had been deleted, and it was Chloe who had given Leo the ring.
But if the app was handed over to Chloe, it would create sufficient "evidence" that Chloe had "saved" Leo.
"Once your foster father recovers, you'd better leave New Orleans," Chloe said, her tone haughty as if New Orleans belonged to the Turner Family.
Toria's face turned cold. She glanced at the two of them but said nothing, turning on her heels and walking out.
Leaving the Turner's Family residence, she didn't head to the hospital to visit her foster parents right away. Instead, she took a cab back to her hometown.
At the local police station, Toria inquired about the car accident. The police informed her that they hadn't caught the hit-and-run driver.
Suspicious, Toria asked for detailed information about the incident and the license plate number of the vehicle involved, secretly recording the conversation.
That same day, she took a bus back to New Orleans . Once there, she contacted a reputable private detective agency, paid a $2,000 retainer, and provided them with the lead on the hit-and-run driver, asking them to investigate the accident involving her foster parents.
The Turner Family's methods were despicable and ruthless. Toria knew she had to uncover the truth and bring the real culprit to justice for the sake of her foster parents.
At the same time, she had offended Leo, and the Turner Family harbored ill intentions towards her. To protect herself, she needed to have money on hand and ensure she had a way out if things went south.
This was also why Toria agreed to sell the backend of her food delivery app to the Turner's Family for two million dollars.
Toria knew that if she demanded too much money and pushed the Turner's Family too far, there would be only one outcome for her death!
After handling everything, Toria dragged her exhausted body back to her apartment, only to be met by Leo's subordinate, George , at the door.
"Miss Kingsley , Mr. Carter is waiting for you."
