Chapter 76 - Jeanne's Stock Soars

That Inhumans tribe was the one where Skye's mother belonged.

Seeing their own kind being hunted on television, it was indeed possible they'd send their teleportation abilities to rescue them.

Now, all the plots related to the Inhumans and Skye's background were connected.

"What happened with Shiki?" Jeanne asked.

She had now returned to casual clothes, lying in Shen He's arms in a princess carry. Her slender body seemed slightly petite compared to her battle armor, and her long golden braid fluttered in the wind.

"Yes, it's a good thing," Shen He opened his faceplate, and the strong wind immediately howled against his face. "I should have had you in the mecha."

"This little bit of wind doesn't matter to an Heroic Spirit."

Jeanne leaned in close to Shen He so she didn't have to speak loudly.

"That's true," Shen He chuckled. "Besides, this is a mech designed for men. You wouldn't be able to wear it, Jeanne."

"Master!" Jeanne's tone was slightly sharper, and she bit her lip, a hint of complaint in her voice. "Teasing a woman about her figure is not a commendable act, you know."

"Uh…" Shen He was taken aback. "I wasn't teasing you."

These slim, small-scale armor suits were practically custom-made. Shen He and Tony were similar in height and weight, which was why he could borrow one.

"Oh, is, is that so…"

Jeanne stammered, her face filled with apology. She hadn't expected to misunderstand her Master.

"So, what kind of image do you have of me in your heart?" Shen He wore a dejected expression. "Although I sometimes tease you, it's because Jeanne is incredibly charming when she's shy. Have you ever seen me tease Shiki or Violet? That kind of irresistible attraction, the one that makes me want to get close, only you have, Jeanne."

"…"

Jeanne didn't say anything, her expression apologetic and stiff, then her cheeks quickly flushed crimson, looking utterly flustered.

"Attraction, or something, waaah..."

Finally, she twisted her head away, letting out a strange sound, but the blush had already spread to her earlobes.

For a girl from the countryside, being praised directly to her face for her attractiveness was almost beyond her ability to handle.

"Just like right now." Shen He, however, wasn't about to let her go, narrowing his eyes in retaliation, a mischievous smile playing on his lips, "I've never thought of you as a saint. What I see is a kind, beautiful, pure, and earnest girl, a girl who makes me feel like I can say anything to you. A woman who can captivate me like this, Jeanne, you're the first."

What kind of embarrassment would the girl experience with these words, which were almost a confession? Shen He was looking forward to it with a bit of a wicked sense of fun.

However—

The expected panic didn't come.

Jeanne turned her head, her pale purple eyes fixed on Shen He, her expression very serious.

"Master..." The girl seemed to be seeking confirmation, "Do you really not see me as a saint?"

So that's how it is... Shen He's gaze softened.

"No." He gave a definite answer, "I know that killing a thousand enemies of a rival nation to save a hundred people from your own country, an act of slaughter we perceive as heroic, is not a deed worthy of praise in your eyes, Jeanne. However, the only reason I don't see you as a saint is because—"

Shen He paused at this point, Jeanne's lips pursed, and she became a little nervous.

"I don't believe in God."

Jeanne's eyes widened.

"What kind of reason is that?"

"This is a very important reason." Shen He didn't look like he was joking at all. "You are known by history as the miraculous maiden, because you heard God's sigh,

and you raised a banner and went to the battlefield, and ultimately created a miracle. People attribute such miracles to God and revere you as a saint, but I don't believe in God."

Jeanne understood a little.

"Because I don't believe in God," Shen He continued, "so what I see in that miracle is only your own efforts and courage. Actually, whether it's the stories of the past, watching you from across a dimension, or the face-to-face contact now, what I pay attention to and like is only you yourself, not the praise others give you."

There are many people in history who have created miracles.

As a non-believer, Shen He admires heroes, but doesn't mythologize them.

Every hero in history can only grasp their own miracle through countless efforts and struggles.

Their glory and achievements should not be entirely attributed to gods or fate.

And after discarding the halo of myth, what Shen He sees is only Jeanne's own charm.

"So cunning, Master..." Jeanne lowered her eyelashes.

"What?" Shen He didn't quite understand.

"You know everything about me." Jeanne raised her head, her face flushed with a completely different kind of blush than before, mixed with a genuine smile. "My personality, my sins, I am covered in blood, and yet I encountered you in this final summoning. I am just a foolish, country girl... do I really deserve your affection?"

Thump, thump...

Shen He's heart beat rapidly for the first time, betraying him.

Even when he had been in close proximity to Jeanne before, he hadn't felt this way.

Because he knew that Jeanne's concern wasn't romantic; it was simply from her pure belief in protecting her Master. Furthermore, Shen He didn't understand if his own feelings of care were even romantic.

But now...

The favorability suddenly seemed to have broken through.

Would kissing her now mean they could finally be a couple?

Shen He wasn't one to be indecisive. Once he realized there was a chance to escape his single status, he immediately threw everything else to the back of his mind.

"Jeanne…"

Shen He called out, intending to build up some emotion.

However, Jeanne had already turned her head, pointing towards the distance with a face full of joy.

"Crystal, I see Crystal!"

"…"

The atmosphere was completely ruined.

Shen He looked like he wanted to cry but couldn't.

But there was nothing more he could do at the moment, because Crystal's condition didn't look good.

Shen He descended.

Jeanne jumped directly into the sea. The unconscious Crystal was swept into the shallows by the waves, while Big Dog desperately bit onto her clothes. However, Big Dog had obvious injuries on its hindquarters and could only barely hold on.

"Her body temperature is very low, and she has an electric shock wound in her lower abdomen. Master, she needs to go to the hospital immediately for treatment." Jeanne had some healing abilities, but they weren't very strong.

"I have a bottle of healing potion from 'Overlord' here." Shen He took out a small bottle filled with red liquid from his backpack. "There's only one bottle. Feed it to Big Dog, and then have it teleport us back to the company base. There's a full set of medical facilities there."

This was a three-star guaranteed equipment that Shen He had drawn during a daily lottery and had been reluctant to use.

But now, it also had to be brought out, because Big Dog's condition looked equally terrible.
