Cornelia's POV
"I don't possess that knowledge, but I'm willing to learn," I replied softly.
David studied me with an intensity that seemed to see through every layer of my being, his stare unwavering and penetrating.
"When you discover the truth, what will your response be?" he inquired, his gaze wandering across my features.
I had grown accustomed to this habit of his. His eyes were never still, constantly exploring and analyzing. They would drift from my eyes to my lips, then to my cheekbone, never lingering long enough to settle but absorbing every detail with methodical precision.
"I'll do my best to comprehend it," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
"And if comprehension eludes you?" His thumb traced along my lower lip, causing it to part involuntarily. Heat flared in his eyes as his breathing became shallow. The gentle pressure of his thumb against my mouth sent electricity through my entire body.
"Then I'll push myself harder to understand."
