Chapter 1 - Cost of Survival

A strong breeze drifted across the solemn mountains of Sword God Mountain.

In this cruel and decrepit world, strength is the only dictator of survival. Strong people can covet what they want, whilst the weak continue to become weaker.

Qi, it is what determines your place in the world. Your aptitude, control, and ability to wield all go into determining how far you will get.

There are various types of Qi, each carrying its own element and specialty: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Lightning. These all can be manifested in a multitude of ways. Guns, swords, halberds, spears, and knives. They may even be manifested as animals and beasts perceived by man.

Windfall City, Divine Alpines

Devor clenched his teeth, staring up at the figures floating above him in golden-clad armor.

"You have chased me for 10 years to separate me from my wife. Do you have no shame? No empathy?" Yunlan bellowed. Pain, grief, and despair drifted in his voice.

Yunlan was a deity, a god. The God of Spirit. He had fled from the Divine Empire after eloping with Jade, a princess from the Empire who was wounded from retaliation against her father.

"Yunlan, you already know what I will say. You are not of royal divinity. You cannot match the prestige of the Princess. If we let you go, we will have disgraced the three supreme gods. You know what happens if we do that," responded Wushuang, one of the enforcer gods within the Divine Alpines. His white hair gently blowing back as he spoke.

"Then we will fight. I will never forgive you for as long as I live. Raise your weapon, coward". Yunlan drew his spear. It was silver and gold. Fine golden lines traced across the handle and blade of the spear, glistening as the Sun shot through the clouds.

The figures in gold drew their swords in unison, pointing them at Yunlan, as if to provoke him.

"This is your last warning. Surrender your wife and release her from the Jade Pagoda. We will cripple you and send you down as a mortal in the lower realms, even I do not want to kill you... Comrade."

Yunlan shook his head, jumping upwards, creating ripples in the air. Cracks in space littered the air whilst Yunlan flew upwards.

What followed was an intense clash. The figures clad in gold swung their swords, and condensed slashes descended on Yunlan. Divine beasts, animals, and creatures alike were eviscerated on the spot from the sheer impact of the blows. This continuous clash continued for months, even years. The surrounding terrain was transformed into a flattened mess, despite being primarily divine rocks.

"We have fought for so long; none of us will be tired. Please, Yunlan, surrender before we have to summon the Head of the Divine Knights. We don't want to kill you; all of us were comrades."

Yunlan shook his head in defiance, firm in his decision. He was resolute. If he couldn't marry his wife openly, then he would retaliate against the gods- his fate.

Wushuang took a small silver cylinder from his pocket, aiming it at the sky, before firing. A thin blue line shot into the air, before diverging into different directions in the sky. Within minutes, a man adorned in blue, gold, and white descended from the sky. This was the head of the Divine Knights, Tianfei.

The sky seemed to ripple upon his descent.

"Yunlan, you're still alive and kicking? Just lie down and die already. We both know you will not make it out. They have left a heavenly mark on you. We can track you from across the universe, dummy. Don't worry, I have called for Erhuang too. We can both watch you die, and I'll personally watch him marry your foolish wife," Tianfei said condescendingly, mocking Yunlan was his favorite pastime.

"I'll kill you before you can see that, bastard", Yunlan replied, dashing up towards Tianfei. Space rippled, cracking, and tearing all around him. But, alas, there was nothing he could do. He stared downwards whilst flying up, admiring the mountains from above, before looking back up. He knew what had to be done.

Before he could reach Tianfei, he froze in place; in fact, everything had frozen in place.

"Enough fooling around, Tianfei, guards, kill him", another voice called down. It was Erhuang, Jade's fiancé, and the crown prince of the divine empire. His strength was immeasurable, though nowhere as strong as the 3 kings, it was enough to completely suppress Yunlan, who was now trapped in the sky. Sweat rolled down his forehead, anger, frustration, despair, all flashed over his face.
