Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Finding An Intruder

I stare at the TV, not concentrating at all. I hear my stomach having a battle then I go to the kitchen. My freezer presents itself to me empty. I go upstairs to check on Oliver before coming back down.

I grab my sweater, my wallet and my umbrella, then go outside. I walk out and go to the grocery store down the street. I buy a few things for me and Oliver then go back. I reach the house but I can swear on my life that I shut the door before leaving.

So how on earth is it opened?

I walk in and shut the door, locking it in the process. I slowly walk upstairs to Oliver's room. It's opened too. My heart drops when I see a figure on my brother's bed. I go to the kitchen and the first thing I see is the frying pan I wanted to use to prepare an omelet. I know I would have picked a knife, but this is the closet thing.

I rush up but silently and I slowly enter Oliver's room, but he's not there. Then the only place any intruder would go to, in this house, is my room. I walk to my room and then I see him there, looking at something I can't seem to figure out.

I walk over and smack the frying pan on his back as hard as I can. I drop the pan down as he turns and I grab hold of his neck, strangling him as much as my little hands can. We both fall on my bed with me on top of him.

I don't care what our position is, but I'm using this opportunity to do what I can.

"Who on Pluto are you?" I ask, not releasing my grip on him. He doesn't say anything. And suddenly, he becomes numb in my hands. I killed him.

"Hello?" I call out but he's not answering, he's not moving. I am taken aback when he flips us over, making himself hover over me. My arms are still on his neck but they are not working. It's like they are frozen. He takes my hands off and uses one of his hands to pin my hands up on the bed.

While the other covers my mouth. He's shushing me, in my house, how dare he?

"Don't shout. Let's settle this calmly. It's me, Jason." He says and I don't speak. I stare at him. "Alright, I'm going to get off and you have to promise me that you won't do anything stupid, okay? In three, two, one." He let's go and I kick him in his guts.

He groans while falling on the floor.

"What do you want? Most of all, how did you find me and my house?" I ask standing up.

"I saw your address in your diary."

"You were stalking me? And that's not my diary, it's my- y'know what? Get up and leave."

"Wait, listen, Molly. I'm here because I got kicked out by my dad and it's your address that I have and remember." He says and I just stare at him, debating in my mind if I should let him in or not.

"What did you do?"

"Well, it's kinda family-oriented. To cut it short, my dad and I had a fight."

Alright, first of all, I can easily call the police and report this. Second of all, this is burglary, an offence punishable by law.

But on the other hand, I can let him stay just for tonight.

"Fine, so what are you doing here?"

"I want to stay here. Maybe just for tonight."

"Hold up, aren't you supposed to be with Tyler?" I ask.

"I am, but she's a nuisance." He says.

"Alright. I don't have clothes for you. I'll prepare a hot-water bath for you. In the meantime, stay downstairs." I say as I lead him downstairs. He sits on the couch and I go back to my room to prepare the hot-water bath for him.

After I'm done, I tell him to go and have his shower. While he's in there I take the groceries I bought and prepare some noodles and some omelette for dinner.

I prepare some for Oliver because he loves it. It's my compensation for not taking him out this evening.

He's still not down. I use this opportunity to wake Oliver up.

Oliver starts eating his food and that's when I see Jason come out. He's in a new pair of clothes.

"Where did you get those?" I ask.

"Oh, I had them in my bag. Had to pack a few things before leaving."

"Dinner's ready." I say, pointing at his plate of food.

"Molly? Who's this?" Oliver asks.

"Oh, he's my tutor. He's just staying for tonight." I notice some movement in my peripheral vision as I whip my head around to see him shake his head in rejection.

"Okay." Oliver says as he continues eating.

"Look here champ, I'll be tutoring your sister here how to welcome her visitors." He says and Oliver smiles.

We all eat in silence. Oliver thanks me as I kiss him on his cheek while he kisses me on my cheek too. It's our locked in signature.

I stand up without picking up the plates and I see Jason wanting to do the same.

"What do you think you are doing?" I ask, crossing my hands over my chest.

"I'm going to sleep." He says.

"So who are you leaving the plates for?" I ask.

"What do you mean?" He asks.

"Pack up the plates and wash them. Stop making me state the obvious." I say, while rolling my eyes.

"I should pack and wash them? I'm a guest." He says.

"But you didn't complain while eating." I say.

"Is this how you treat your guest?" He asks.

"No, I treat intruders like this." I say.

"You're unbelievable." He says.

"I know, right?" I say.
