Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Dinner.

I walk into the steak house. It's cold in contrast to the warmness outside.

An english accented voice asks "Hello sir, did you have a reservation with us?"

"Y-yes sir." "For locke." I answer with a voice crack. The nervousness is getting to me. It's not like I could stand up Jenny. It would just make things worse.

The Host replies to me "I believe the other member of your party has already been seated sir." He then points at a table.

I see Jenny. Beautiful as ever. Her hair, light brown with sparkles of gold. Her eyes, blue and as gorgeous as the sea. As the warmth of her face fills my body, I'm reminded of the scars she can't even see, and the cold atmosphere.

I walk over to the table. Full of shame. She smiles as she sees me from a distance. I put on a smile back. It may be a little forced but seeing her still gives me joy. Even through all the pain. I'm conflicted, all my thoughts of guilt and shame contrasted to Jenny giving me a sense of security and comfort.

I arrived at our table. There's a light above us, a white table cloth with a candle in the middle and two chairs facing each other, one with Jenny and the other waiting for me. As I sit down I notice the candle in front of us goes out. I'm looking away from her but she is steadily looking at me. I caught a glance at her. She sees the cut under my eye. I know it.

"You broke our promise, didn't you?" She says calmly with disappointment. The light above us dims down. My heart sinks. This is not a pain I can just punch through. Her silence after the question is louder than any yelling.

I can't say anything back. I don't know what to say. I glance back up at her with shame. I see a tear starting to swell in her eye, I'm disgusted with myself.

Welp. A walk of shame home. I can't argue with it. I broke our promise. I truly deserve this. I don't know where things with Jenny go now.
